5 stars (A readers gift) - I purchased this audio cd & was completely taken away. I really loved the time travel it was a really important part of the story. There were some very poignent things said that I hope resonate with people. When he visited the area where goals & aspirations that didn't come to fruition, It moved me soo much that I said, anything that I set out to accomplish, i will. I don't want any of my goals to end up in an room where they never come to life. Overall, a very good audio book. I love audio cd's. 4 stars (Learn to Speak French worked for me) - I actually bought this product in Oct 2003. I knew I would be vacationing in Paris in May 2004. I worked through the programs one after the other for the past 6 months. Well, I went to Paris and was able to order in restaurants, buy things and converse at a basic level. The program works if you work at it. Where I think the program excels is in correct pronounciation. Hearing the people in the programs speak over and over and using the verbal dictionary helped me learn to pronounce correctly. The program includes a microphone and Fodors travel guide, along with a set of CDs and a VCR tape. The CD's contain the most important part of the program. Part of the focus of the program is to speak into the microphone and be graded on your speech quality. I think this is overrated and concentrated on pronouncing as the actors in the programs do. Also, as mentioned by another reviewer, the Fodors travel guide is a great reference tool if you actually plan to go to France. This program is well worth the money. Caution: It will not make you fluent. I don't think any program can achieve that. 1 stars (Unusable) - Learn to Speak French is a terrible product. The Learning Company says it can be used on Windows XP, but it just isn't true. It loaded well and seemed to run OK, but within 10 minutes it crashed the system because it used up all the resources. There seems to be a bug that doesn't allow resources to close when you leave an area. When I went to TLC home page to look for a bug fix I discovered that L to SF is supported over the web only and no support by e-mail or telephone is available. There is a fix to correct some problem with Win 2000 so, with nothing to lose, I downloaded it and attempted to install it. The first step was to go to the drive that had the L to SF CD in it. I did this and when I clicked OK it returned to the C drive. Nothing I tried would take me to the D drive. Maybe this works well on... 1 stars (Don't bother) - Trite and flat writing. Predictable. I tried reading this mess and ended up using it as a coaster. There are sooooo many good books out there - why read a bad one? 5 stars (Great read) - I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved the author's sense of humor. I especially appreciated the interaction and understanding, and ultimate bond, between the author and his brother. Franz certainly lived the old bromide "When life deals you lemmons, you make lemonade" After reading this book I think the author is perhaps less conservative than he thinks. I have given it as a gift to many of my friends. 5 stars (Absolutely wonderful!) - What a wonderful story about life! Reading this book made me realize how many people are stuck in their lives and blame others. The brothers took it in their own hands to make something positive out of something negative. I like travelling myself so I was inhaling all the places they went and adventures they had. I cannot wait for the second book! ... 5 stars (Terrific Read...Even If You Don't Own a Boat) - Honey, Let's Get a Boat" by Ron and Eva Stob Here is a must read for not only boating enthusiasts but all those who ever imagined themselves pulling up stakes and setting out on a year or more adventure of travel. Ron and Eva Stob do a wonderful job of recounting their year-long journey on a forty-foot trawler, which began in Florida and circled up along the intercoastal waterway to New York and then up the Hudson River to Lakes George and Champlain to the Saint Lawrence River in Canada and on to the Great Lakes and Chicago and then down the river systems to the Gulf of Mexico and back to Florida. This route, known as "America's Great Loop," took them through waterways, locks, scenery, history, and cultures as varied as one could find anywhere. Even though the book is written in the first person by Ron as the narrator, I can assure you, on the basis of having had the good fortune of meeting this delightful couple, Eva had a big part in helping relate the experiences encountered throughout their year of traveling these waterways. The book is a great read from start to finish and includes an appendix, which is a guidebook to anyone contemplating a similar venture. From the interesting and humorous aspects of just how this couple took the leap of quitting their jobs and finding and purchasing the trawler to their final encounter with the tropical storm Gordon,( becoming Hurricane Gordon,) as they returned to Florida after their year of cruising, the reader will be fascinated by vivid descriptions of places and cultures, as well as the difficulties and near disasters. Ron's "tongue in cheek" satire and humor and his honest self-criticism enhance the imagery of the book and bring alive the characters and places. The book relates as much about the history and culture of the places visited along the way as it does the process of navigating the waterways. Even though I had been to a number of place...
