Robbins - Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease

5 stars (Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease Review) - This book is very well formated. It goes indepth to help the reader comprehend and retain the thorough information presented in a logical, organized manner. An added bonus is the CD that comes with this text that is also presented well and helps the reader see, by photos, exactly what has been covered. Having access to the on-line version enables the owner of this book to view the information from anywhere. I highly recommend this book. 3 stars (Good reference book, not a teaching one.) - This review is for the previous two editions. Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease is widely used in medical school as an introduction to the field of pathology. The book is well referenced and very detailed, and there lies some of its weakness. As a reference book it does not get any better, however the writing style rambles around an issue and leaves you with a feeling that you just do not know what you read. Pathology, for being a science, is fairly weak. The description of a disease is sometimes based on multiple facts which we do not understand as a whole. For example headaches are decribed in multiple categories, but the tratment for all of them is in most cases unknown. What works for one person does not work for another. Robbins gives you all the details, but in many cases fails to teach you the scientific pathophysiology of a disease. For example, instead of giving you a concise picture of each disease (ie asthma) it tells you about the HLA associations, and many other random details that have no bearing in patient treatment. Again, as a reference book is excellent. For learning the hard real meat of each disease, stick to Harrison's Internal Medicine and your basic science books. 5 stars (THE path book for ppl who don't mess around!) - If your pathology lecture handouts look like this: "toxoplasma - immunocompromised host - cardiac transplant" and you are thinking, "What causes what? The Cure for All Diseases

1 stars (eye opening book) - very informative book. this kind of information will not be found in pharma sponsored publications. you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. 5 stars (This book saved my life) - Notice how all the negative reviews are from people who haven't even tried using the information in the book to cure themselves? Bunch of cynics and skeptics who would negate the book no matter what information it contains, because they think they're working for A Current Affair or something. Meanwhile, they're missing out on the most amazing book I've ever read. I am one of the world's biggest skeptics, I am an agnostic, I don't follow any religion, I don't believe in "new-agey" remedies, I don't believe in fate; I believe in science, not superstition. That's the point, this is not some crackpot or new-agey theory, everything stated by Dr Clark makes perfect scientific sense. I hadn't even read the book and I tried the "zapper" not expecting anything and actually hoping to discount it, but it instantly nearly cured me of manic depression and the constant flu-like / CFS symptoms I had been dealing with for years. As I continued the treatment, in conjunction with having all my mercury amalgam fillings removed, my situation continued to improve to the point where I can now live a totally normal life. Before starting Dr Clark's treatments, I couldn't even work a regular job and was sick, exhausted and depressed all the time. This is the most important book I have ever read and it saved my life! Spanish Complete- The Complete Language Course - 3 Level Set Learn in Your Car

5 stars (Excellent for beginner or refresher course) - This course is excellent, either as an introduction to Spanish or as a way to refresh or sharpen your skills if you are already somewhat familiar with it. There are three levels, and each level consists of three 60-minute CDs. (You can buy each level separately, but getting the whole set is cheaper than buying each level separately.) Each CD is sub-divided into 10 or 11 small lessons presenting a single topic. The first lessons start with very simple vocabulary, then later lessons progress to simple phrases using that vocabulary, then simple sentences in the present tense, then more advanced vocabulary and phrases, and then the most common verb tenses and moods (present, past, future, compound tenses (I HAVE GONE), conditional (I WOULD GO IF . . . ), imperative (GO AWAY!), and subjunctive (I DOUBT THAT HE'LL GO.). The range of subject matter also expands gradually. The first level covers what might be called "survival skills," the really basic topics you need to know right away, like transportation, money, directions, hotels, restaurants, shopping, telling time, and numbers. Later lessons, especially in the second and third levels, include more advanced vocabulary, more complex sentences, and more complex situations. All lessons use the same methodology - the target word, phrase, or sentence is given in English, followed by a pause for your response, then the Spanish translation is given, followed by another pause, followed by a repetition of the Spanish translation and another pause. So for each target word, phrase, or sentence, you'll have three chances to say it in Spanish; and I can tell you from personal experience that this constant repetition works very well. Playing the CDs in your car or while jogging (my personal favorite), is a painless but effective way to learn a new language or review a previously learned language.
