How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci- Seven Steps to Genius Every Day

2 stars (Kind of Pointless...) - The book was very well written and i must say that i really did enjoy the introduction chapters which was filled with bits of Leonardo's life, work, and other mentions of factual knowledge that was quite interesting. However, once the core of the book started to unfold it became very dry reading and the "self-help"'ish way the book is written becomes monotonous and i began to feel that Gelb himself is just too over enthused about Leonardo Da Vinci. I agree that he is a very noteworthy person to idolize and model your own life around to some extent but in some of the sections dealing with the senses and "what to do's" it seemed like he was stretching a bit and making Leonardo too godlike for his own right. Also, another qualm i had with the book was when he listed his own group of people he felt were noteworthy and i feel that it was tactless to do so because your ranking people from different genres, walks of lfe, skills and talents, and placing them as if it were the olympics in competition and it seemed to be another way to just give more praise to Leonardo in his fascination and obsession to put Da Vinci on some sort of pedestal. Again, i feel Leonardo was a brilliant man but to write a book solely on the content of how to think like him, i feel, is pointless and has no substance because he himself is not writing the book but only a mere fan who has never met the man, has no relevance to the time period Da Vinci lived in, and, again, ISNT DA VINCI writing a book about how to think like him. Many people reading this may say "well, what about biographies, those are people who may not have known the person they are writing about". Very true, but this is not a biography. Instead this is a list of thing you can do yourself to mock the way Da Vinci decided things, thought, and lived his life. 5 stars (An absolut MUST-READ!) - The LikeAbility philosophy, as Tim cleary explains, is much needed in our world. Tim's research is thorough and has depth. The concept is simple to grasp, yet challenging to implement in our daily lives. His practical advice and exercises are very valuable and easy to follow. Congratulations to an inspiring and excellent book, Tim. 4 stars (A Great Message ) - This kind of message may seem obvious but it is amazing how important it is to be likeable! It's not always easy and I do think it takes practise, especially in business. Often we are so busy to get all the work done that we can forget to take time to really be nice - especially when situations are chaotic. Tim is on the right track and I look forward to his next book. 3 stars (Somewhat Interesting) - Sanders' book is short, and interesting - up to a point. He briefly cites evidence that being likeable (having an interest in others, listening to them, etc.) is linked to good health, improved job retention, overall success, better quality time with a physician, greater liklihood of getting elected, and significantly reduced chance of divorce. Also, "nice" physicians are less likely to be sued, and more likely to win if they are. All useful points. But what about Leo Durocher's "Nice guys finish last" philosophy? Blue Like Jazz- Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality

5 stars (wonderful!) - This book was wonderful! I would recommend it to anyone, especially those who don't like Christians or for Christians to challenge them to go deeper and find real freedom. It's worth it, whatever the cost. 5 stars (One Man's "Garbage", Another Man's Treasure ) - This is one of those books that brings out the beauty and honesty of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Don understands that the only way we can survive this world is through community in the body of Christ, and the only way that can happen is through honesty. Miller uses his testimony to tackle some tough issues like freedom and artistic creativity. He also reminds us through expereinces with his 'liberal friends' what Christ looks like when it comes to social action and where many follwers of Christ have been taking naps. "There is no holiness but social holiness". Miller is able to paint a picture of who he is in a way that, when you put down the book, you feel like you just had a conversation with him. This book isn't scripture, it's an autobiography [Which means it's about his personal life experiences :) ]. Donald Miller's testimony is one that has the potential to impact many people. Far too often we find deep books that are vague and impractical or how-to manuals that are shallow and unbiblical. "Love Talk," as the authors accurately label it, is "a deep yet simple plan full of new insights that will revolutionize communication in love relationships." Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott help couples to go deep by identifying their fear factor (a catchy and helpful phrase)--a soul issue necessary to expose for soul talk by soul mates. 1 stars (Another Disappointing Book on Strategy) - Every once in a while I go out and buy another strategy book to flip through, and honestly, I am generally disappointed in what is out there. This book however ranks among the worst. The first sign is the blatant grammatical and spelling errors starting in Chapter 1 (i.e. "...then we are run like hell out of the trade."). The second warning bell comes with the gross misrepresentations about the market in general (i.e. "...low-price stocks translates into a higher-risk premium and, as a category, these low-priced stocks tends to do well..." - again, the author's grammar, verbatim). Sometimes the poor grammar can be chalked up to someone who is so into their game that they skipped less important classes when they were young (i.e. grammar, spelling, literature), and market hype can be the result of true passion, albeit a wee bit overzealous. Unfortunately, the reader quickly discovers the actual content is not very useful either, and is just a re-hashing of weak systems containing catchy buzz words and simplistic formulas. 5 stars (Greate book for system devlopers) - I have been developing trading systems for 5 years and this book has many intesting ideas. I checked most of them out with my data and started trading with some. 5 stars (Informative Read) - I must say I was leery about reading yet another "how to" book about dating but after strong encouragement from others who have read the book, I purchased it and must admit I was very pleased and refer back to it quite a bit. I've just recently started dating again after a long hiatus, but as this book states, I was taking care and healing self so I can attract the kind of man for me. He provides pointers and tips and believe me they actually work. This particular time in my life I have a very healthy and fun outlook towards dating. I would strongly recommend this book. 5 stars (Reel it in!) - Men Are Like Fish is a practical, humorous easy to read guide on the basics of men and women together and individually. An enjoyable book, it holds lots of anecdotes for dealing with the beginnings of relationships. Goodness knows getting started is often one of the hardest parts. 5 stars (Essential reading for every homeowner!) - Insulating your house is fraught with dangers and there are lots of sharks out there only too delighted to take your money and ruin your house. Although I am still learning this stuff, I'm still confident that I know more than most of the insulation contractors that have come through my door. Scary, isn't it? The dangers of doing it wrong aren't just a waste of money. There is a real risk of mold in the short term and rot in the long term. Read this book, but let it be your first step. See the Taunton forums at their web page, the Building Sciences Corp web page, and do your homework before you let anyone do anything to your house. I agree with a previous reviewer that a weakness of this book is its lack of step-by-step guides, and as a complete novice on house construction I had to look elsewhere for some of the terminology. But I'm still giving it 5 stars just because it has so much important information, to counteract all the misinformation and misconceptions out there. 3 stars (Very useful overview, but not a step-by-step manual) - This was one of the first books that I bought after purchasing an older, leaky home. And not having insulated a house for ten years or so, and knowing many people with rigid-insulated McMansions, it was a relief to see a book that treats insulation as something to be planned, like any other infrastructural component, not just done ad hoc. Like other Taunton publications, this one is nicely laid out and designed. However, as an amateur, I wanted to see a game plan that I could follow, including which tasks I could be expected to do reasonably well myself, and which things should be left to a professional. Mountain Bike Like a Champion

5 stars (Wonderfully helpful and well written) - I have been riding adult bikes for 31 years. This book taught me balance exercises that I did not know. Lots of the book just repeats stuff that can be found elsewhere but that is valuable too. Shouldn't there be one compendium that captures 95% of the knowledge on a subject? This is a wonderful book and very well priced. 5 stars (Ned, the Lung) - Ned is one of the finest examples of a athlete. He is one that just wont quit, he loves the sport, the competition and most of all he challenges himself. Its great when such a athlete stops and takes some time to help out his fans by writing such a helpful book. Some of it most experienced riders will already know, but still the book contains tips and such to fine tune your skills. The biggest help for me was his tips on fitting the bike. After following his tips my S-Works feels and handles all so much better. Its the little things. For the cost of book you cant beat it. Instead of subscribing to a cycling magazine in hope of finding new help, save yourself some money and time and get it all in one source. Ned is a great guy, rides some of the best bikes made, he knows his stuff.. Although he is a busy guy with Xtera and all he even takes some time to meet, email and answer questions.
