3 stars (its a math book) - not gonna do back flips for a math book 5 stars (Pleasently Surprised) - I am a college student and the math book that was at the bookstore was $100.00. I went onto amazon.com and found the same book in new condition (looked like)for $56.00. I was kind of weary about ordering on-line for the first time but was pleasently surprised. This was a great first experience and plan on ording all my books through amazon.com. 5 stars (Fun mathematical Ideas) - "Ideas" is the key here as we have calculators, computers, and what not to do any real number crunching or comparing. This book carries you from zero to the edges of most any mathematical discipline. The information in the margins ties the theories back to reality. At the appropriate locations in the margin are postage stamps from around the works are shown commemorating the individual mathematicians and scientists relating to the subject being studied. There is a section in the book with the answers to all the odd questions. ...

Odd Ball Knitting - Creative Ideas for Leftover Yarn

3 stars (Not totally unique -- but still helpful for the stash-stumped) - For knitters looking to clear the stash out from under the bed (to make room for-let's be honest here-more yarn), Barbara Albright has written Odd Ball Knitting. In this book, Albright provides a plethora of tips and patterns for knitters looking to do a little stash-busting. From small patterns that use just a little bit of yarn (like finger puppets or scarves or sachets) to larger projects that use different kinds of yarn to create one unique piece (like a colorful striped poncho or shawl), Albright provides plenty of solutions for stashes of every size and color palette. While many of the projects are pretty standard-projects that you can find on the pages other knitting books and magazines-Albright does something that no one else has done. She puts them together in one stash-focused book to aid the stash-stumped. She also throws in tips for storing yarn, stash-busting, and even for figuring out just how much yarn is left on a partially-used ball. The chart provided in the back of the book also allows you to choose projects based on what you've got stored behind your sofa. If your home is under siege by yarn balls of various colors and sizes and you don't feel like flipping through your collection of books and magazines to search for just the right pattern, Odd Ball Knitting will get you started on the road to stash-free living. Or at least it'll help you clear up some room for the next clearance sale at your local yarn shop. 1 stars (Waste of Money) - I was hoping to see some new and creative ways to use leftover yarn. This book does not deliver. 3 stars (Eh) - Most of these patterns can be found for free someplace on the internet. I did not find anything here that was overly creative or that really said, "Oh yea.... I could do THAT!" This would probably be something for a new knitter. ...

5 stars (Great Birthday Present) - I bought this as a birthday present for my boyfriend and told him that he could pick out one date a month that I would have to treat him to and hopefully he would let me pick out one date a month that I would like to do. We have had it for about 3 months now and we get really excited about our dates now. Before we didnt really do anything but hang out and maybe rent a movie. Now the stuff we do is actually fun and we have gotten tighter as a couple because of it. Several of my friends have expressed how jealous they are of the dates we have been going on. It is not like they are expensive or anything - just unique. There were even some fun dates that we have done that we found in the classifieds of the newspaper just like the book said. 4 stars (Unique Ideas) - There were a lot of unique ideas in this book which was really good. I never imagined there could be so many different date ideas. We are doing one each week until we do all of them - after the 6 years are up I'll post another review :) 5 stars (Thanks) - I thought I was really romantic but my girlfriend told me I needed a little help <crash> :( Upon recommendation from a friend I got this book and while some of the ideas werent us (maybe 20%) there were a lot that I have been able to use. This is a fun book with some great ideas in it! My advice? Read it...take notes...and follow the recipe! Dubbed by the media as "Racy Jaci" because of her quick wit and "The Rae of Hope," for her powerful insight. 5 stars (How To Make Adults Cry) - Even before I had a fiance I was a sucker for those proposal shows - every time I saw a real life proposal that they showed on TV, it made me cry. When it was time for me to get engaged I wanted to have a proposal that was endearing, touching and dramatic like the ones I saw on TV. This book was the start of a fantastic proposal that not only was magnificient, it also was featured on the local news and in two of our newspapers. I had some ideas of my own before reading the book, but everything I read really helped me to flesh it out and perfect it. It was definitely worth the investment. A nice bonus were the dozens of photos of some of the actual proposals featured in the book. The ring cost me $3000 so I figured I could spend a little more to make it a proposal of a lifetime and I am glad I did. 1 stars (Don't waste your money) - Don't waste your money on this book, the stories aren't any different than what you can find posted on some web site somewhere. And as far as the tips that go along with the book, you would have to be a retard not to know you shouldn't say "I'll marry you if you lose 20 pounds." The big secret to getting someone till film your proposal..........have someone ready with a camera when and where your going to do the deed. What a great idea! 1 stars (Panic in the wedding aisle!) - Yikes! I am newly engaged, and this book scared the bejebbers out of me! My fiance and I were looking at a simple wedding. This book intends to scare you into looking at more and more elaborate proceedings. Finally, you are at the point where you believe no one but a diety called a "wedding planner" can actually pull off a wedding. Perhaps it is where I live and my social-economic class, but this book view of etiquette is manners that quickly translates into cash. I literally woke up in the middle of the night when I considered how much everything would cost and how far behind the wedding planning was. My friends who are married knew what sort of wedding I had in mind and did not hestitate to tell me to send the book BACK. 5 stars (This massive guide is all-inclusive and brilliant) - Not just for Etiquette! This book is an impressive wealth of knowledge and information, and is just loaded with useful information that I've never found in other wedding books, and I've bought and browsed my share of them. You need not worry this book will just repeat information you may already have in other books, this book will complement your collection and give you lots of details you probably won't find anywhere else. It's the wedding Bible. And, although Post is the authority on Etiquette, not only is this guide the only Etiquette helper you'll ever need, it also is a huge help in planning and ideas. You won't find any glossy full color photos in here but this book offers so much those other more "glossy" books don't have. This is a MUST for any engaged couple. 5 stars (Great wedding resource, more than etiquette) - This is a great book for any bride to be. It includes not only etiquette, but it also has tips. Weekend Knitting - 50 Unique Projects and Ideas

3 stars (Caveat knitter!) - Or, buyer beware. First off, as was already stated in many of these reviews, this book is not for a new knitter. At all. The patterns are not impossible, and some of them are pretty easy. I am an experienced knitter and some of the patterns, like the flower washcloth, were easy to do, easy to understand, and quick to knit. The patterns, overall, were lovely to look at and the photography in this book was amazing. Interspersing the knitting with suggestions (recipes, etc.) was a cute idea. The caveat is this: the projects in this book are not weekend projects, nor are they cheap. You can substitute, but let's be serious for a moment. A weekend cashmere sweater? In my dreams. This is a book for the knitter with time and money. If, like me, you fall into the other category, this is probably not your book. Part of me wants to give this book just one star because it is one of the most misleading titles for a book I have ever seen. The other part won't rate it low because there were some neat ideas but frankly, very little in there I would actually knit. I would be more likely to design a sweater than pick one from this idyllic-weekend-in-the-Berkshires book. One more thing - this book has egg cozies and elf slippers and tiny tiny finger puppets that would be cute to me if they weren't knit on 00 needles using 3 or 4 colors and cozy sweaters that would be awesome - just awesome - if you can spend your weekend uninteruppted by phone calls, dogs, kids, visitors, your boyfriend's friends waltzing in at 2 o'clock Sunday for breakfast, or... you get the idea. If you have to have a sweater egg cozy for your soft boiled egg, you need this book. If you can live without one, you can probably live without this book. 2 stars (Much harder than described) - I have other books by Falick that are much easier and less time intensive.
