1 stars (Essentials of Health Care Finance) - I bought the book of Essentials of Health Care Finance, it was delivered on time, however, some papers insided the book are very dirty, I can see the brown oily figure prints. I wish that I can exchange the book ... 4 stars (Troubling Guide to Alien Territory) - This books offers a broad coverage of health care topics for a non-financial person. It is most deeply flawed for its inability to communicate clearly to a lay person. Essentially it is a vocabulary primer of important financial principles and concepts. It requires abstract thinking and the ability to follow mathematical models. This reader studied Cleverly's text as a requirement for a healthcare finance class. The text was frustrating as this reader attempted to "know" everything about healthcare finances; however, this is probably not the intent of the book. It does present a road into the foreign land of finances. It demands respect for another set of data and another language for interpreting that data. One does not master this data set at one pass, however. Nevertheless, this reader did gain some new financial information. At the risk of being simplistic, but communicative; a listing of some of the concepts learned follows: 1. There are many users of financial information. 2. Financial information can guide the formation of programs. 3. Financial management is essential for successful healthcare organizations. 4. Various qualities of health care organization types. 5. How health care organizations make up for discouting and bad debt and capitated payments. 6. General principles of accounting and why they are important. Also that these principles still need to be explained, to be consistent, and to be clarified. 7. Overview of four main types of financial statements with a brief explanation of vaious line items. 8. That financial planning includes considering inflation before it happens, and for equipment etc. to break and wear out before it breaks ... 1 stars (Hmmm.) - I honestly do not know how to rate this, because I still have not received this book. I already had my first test. So, I had to go buy this textbook from the bookstore on campus and was charged an outrageous amount. Also, I emailed the seller to see what the tracking number was and still haven't had response. 5 stars (Essentials of Geology) - The book has a wealth of information, I have enjoyed reading it, and using it in my class. 4 stars (A good textbook for the the physical geology student) - This book is intended as a text for the collegiate course in physical geology. The course encompasses a general overview of the physical processes by which the Earth continues to develop, both gradually and by sudden events of great magnitude. Plate tectonics, volcanism, erosion, mountain building and shaping, mineralogy, mass wasting, the impact of man, glaciation, and all other manner of things are clearly discussed in nineteen separate chapters. The color photography and diagrams are remarkably good, and closely follow the text, which is a real boon, especially to a student who is hard-pressed for time. The coverage is up-to-date and accurate in all respects. Many of the photographs, such as the those of the eruptions at Montserrat, are very current. Given the fact that physical geology is the first of six courses required for any geology degree, and that any well-informed person should have no trouble understanding the contents of this book, I would recommend it to any reader interested in earth science, student or not. ... 5 stars (At last, a good intro to epi book for students!) - This book is an excellent introduction to epidemiology. The authors present epidemiologic concepts in an easy-to-understand manner with interesting supportive examples from the fields of reproductive health and HIV epidemiology. In addition to the standard chapters on study design, bias, and confounding, the book also includes very good chapters on measurement error, causation, and screening, as well as tried-and-proven guidelines for a critical review of epidemiologic studies. This text should be very helpful to beginning masters and doctoral students in epidemiology and public health. ... 5 stars (Wow! Clear, Concise, Excellent Book) - Having seriously struggled for the last two years with the statistics side of my Psychology studies, this book has really made things so much clearer. An excellent book for anyone struggling to grasp the basic statistical concepts required in behavioral sciences. 5 stars (One of the Best Intro to Stats Texts) - Having taken statistics before, I know a good book when I see one. This is hands down, one of the best intro to stats book. Unlike other stats textbooks, Essentials gives you the information in a concise manner accompanied by varied step-by-step examples towards understanding all the statistical tests. Psychology students have it lucky to have a book like this. 5 stars (Understandable Statistics at Last!) - This is the first statistics textbook that I have actually understood and enjoyed, and I have read many of them. The authors take students through the material step by step and do not make assumptions about prior knowledge. The charts and examples are very helpful and clearly presented. As textbooks go, this is the best! ... 5 stars (A Must-Read!) - Professor Clayton M. Christensen's excellent book is a classic of strategy literature. The innovator's dilemma is that doing the right things can lead to failure. Sometimes it is wrong to listen to customers, invest in the highest return opportunities and do all of the things that made a successful company succeed. Clearly written, amply documented, provocative and challenging, this book is indispensable for anyone in business. If it has a shortcoming, it is that it focuses more on the dilemma than on resolving it and it does not offer specific remedial prescriptions. However, Christensen has authored or co-authored two other books that attempt to remedy that deficiency. We heartily recommend this book, which remains the leader of the three. It has the potential to change the way managers think about business - any business. 5 stars (Entrepreneurs - read this & gain the upper hand) - In this revolutionary bestseller, Harvard professor Clayton M. Christensen says outstanding companies can do everything right and still lose their market leadership, or worse, disappear completely. And he not only proves what he says; he tells others how to avoid a similar fate. To be a successful entrepreneur you must be able to capitalize on change. "The Innovator's Dilemma" is all about dealing with change, from the incumbent's point of view. How valuable do you think it would be to understand how your larger competitors think? That's exactly what this book talks about. Most large, established firms are inherently weak in one area - they cling to the status quo with a vengeance. While talk of innovation is commonplace, it is the attacker (entrepreneurs) who holds a definitive advantage. Without legacy systems and overbearing bureaucracy it is the entrepreneur who has the upper hand. "The Innovator's Dilemma" consists of two major parts: Part One: Why Great Companies Fail Part Two: Managing Disruptive Change This is one of the most insightful books on bus... 2 stars (Disappointing, again and again...) - I am a clinical psychology graduate student, and every time I turn to this book for help related to interpretation--what a part of the test means or can tell us about a person--I am sorely disappointed. It is terribly psychometric and formal, giving facts about the test but few clues for what to do with it; even something as simple as a useful description of one of the index scores is lacking. There are reference tables included, but I have found even those more difficult to locate when I need them than seems necessary. Frustrating... 5 stars (Clear and user-friendly yet sophisticated) - This is a gem of a book. I assigned it for the grad students in my intellectual assessment course and both they and I found it to be very helpful and easy to use. The format of the book makes it very user-friendly and unintimidating. There are a lot of boxes and highlighted text that help the reader to find what he or she is looking for quickly. This book covers administration, scoring, and interpretation and provides numerous helpful tips for beginners on common errors. The approach to interpretation provided in this book is a pared-down and slightly modified version of the method described in Kaufman's book Intelligent Testing with the WISC-III (an excellent book with a great deal of information on interpreting the WISC-III). Kaufman and Lichtenberger take the guess work and estimation out of interpreting the significance of various scores. This approach is based in the scientific method (assume nonsignificance unless you have a compelling reason, based on the test data, to believe that the variations in scores on the test protocol are unlikely to have resulted by chance). This approach is very helpful in giving students an understanding of how much variation in test scores can result from test error, and brings the "science" back into test interpretation. There are a lot of numbers to crunch using this method, and in some ways the ... 4 stars (The Next Generation Leader: Five Essentials for Those Who Will Shape the Future ) - This book is for anyone who desires to be part of the next wave of God's move in North America. As a church we have a lot to catch up to (or get back to) what is life and normal to the church on other continents -- community the way it is suppose to be. 5 stars (Tested Leadership Lessons for Emerging Leaders) - Andy Stanley's purpose in writing "The Next Generation Leader" was to pass on to emerging leaders lessons learned in his own leadership experiences. The book centers on five leadership concepts. 1.Competence - Focus your time and energy in your areas of strength. 2.Courage - The leader is the one willing to take the lead. 3.Clarity - Be clear even if you are uncertain. 4.Coaching - It takes a coach to bring out your full potential. 5.Character - Character makes you a leader worth following and it provides you with moral authority. In Augustinian terms, Stanley has plundered the Egyptians, by borrowing many concepts from authors of business books and translating them into the vernacular of the minister and the world of the church. He does this with numerous examples of characters in the Bible and from his own personal life and ministry. "The Next Generation Leader" is a short, interesting, and thoughtful book designed for those beginning their leadership journey. It should also provide reminders and challenges to those who have served as leaders for some time. I highly recommend the book for emerging Christian leaders. If you are looking for a more comprehensive study of church leadership from a similar perspective I would recommend "Courageous Leadership" by Bill Hybels or "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" by John Maxwell. 3 stars (Next Gen Review) - The last section, section 5 on character, was the most encouraging part of the book. Andy's advice about character development, the condition of the heart, and compromising the principles of God are... It's great if you need a complete and extensive description or a quick overview. This book will go from your college backpack to the desk of your new exciting job! 5 stars (An Excellent Guide to Business Writing) - This book is an excellent tool for writing, especially for the non-native English writer. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a study guide with many examples that have been updated for the current business environment. The numerous samples and the grammar review are very helpful for studying the fundamentals. This book is extremely relevant in a business world crowded with a cornucopia of poor writing, misspelling, and incorrect grammar usage. 5 stars (The best out there) - Granted, one may not need all of the utilities (I use gmail which has great spam controls), but the spy sweeper and windows washer utilities are the best that I have found. I find my computer much safer with them. And windows washer cleans out blank space. I also like that the newest version works much faster than previous versions. A must to protect your PC. 4 stars (I've only used 2 parts) - The Spy Sweeper and Window Washer portions seem pretty good. You can fine-tune them to do or not do particular things, and can schedule tasks to occur at specific times. The basic function of Window Washer is to remove the "obvious" lists of file names and user names that get stored by various programs, such as the "Recently Opened" list, the history list of URL's in a browser, as well as the obscure portions Windows itself, such in error message logs, temp files, and other locations. There are about 30 spots it can clean for you, including the "slack" space in clusters. "Slack" is the left-over portion of a previous file that has been over-written. For true paranoics, there is an optional "bleach" cycle that will overwrite the slack up to 39 times. It also cleans out cookies, but you can have it leave specific ones you really need. Spy Sweeper functions like an anti-virus program and looks for ad-ware, key-stroke, and other "spy" type files on your computer. It is very customizable. If you have Window Washer or Spy Sweeper do "everything", expect it to take a pretty long time - perhaps you'll want to run it overnight...
