5 stars (Excellent Text!) - We used this book in a year-long class and it took me a long way. While not specifically a "how to" book, it provides a wealth of information on how to do a code-conforming (and therefore safer) job in about any residential application. The questions at chapter ends and drills that have you draw wiring diagrams will effectively reinforce material read and help you learn how to use the code. A valuable reference and addition to my electrical library! I cannot recommend it strongly enough! 5 stars (The best I have tried.) - This book is my electrical bible. I tried several books before I found this one. I bought it when I was trying to rewire an old house. The first 2 books I bought left me dazed and confused. I finally spent an afternoon in the bookstore browsing through every electrical book I could find until I ran across this. What a find. It not only explains clearly what has to be done, but why. The book makes good use of tables to summarize information and excellent use of diagrams. It not only teaches you to wire correctly, but teaches you the code as well. Highly recommended. If you don't know what a wirenut is, this may not be the book for you as it assumes some level of knowhow on the part of the reader. Otherwise, this is likely to be the last residential wiring book you will ever buy. 4 stars (Dunwoody uses it -- you should too) - I went to Dunwoody Institute, and their electrical department uses this as a textbook for future electricians. The biggest downside is it doesn't cover some of the low voltage/HVAC in the depth that it does everything else. It has constant code references, but it also explains things plainly enough that most people can understand them. It is a little expensive, but I would definately recomend it. ... 3 stars (Good) - The book is still in good condition. Eventhough there's some black spots in the edge of the book, overall it is fine. 4 stars (For whom want to master the subject!) - This text is not just thorough in its covered material. It covers more material than all other undergrad. level control texts I've ever seen. It treats thoroughly both state-space and the transform approaches which makes this text somehow unique. The text opens your eyes to the P,PI,PD and PID controllers in the very beginning which is thrilling for first time control students. As a matter of fact, the text is more focused on mechanical engineers interests than those of the electrical engineers. I consider the concept itself neutral :) which ECS/EE majors might share with ME(s). As a student you will find the text written in a way that it walks through the concept and practice with you step by step. It teaches you matlab the same way (step by step!). If you are using another text through this course you may use this one as a supplementary text since it covers almost every topic used through the undergraduate level. The multi input multi output system is covered in every control systems text except the fact that none of those I read (more than 5 'big' texts) stated how would you evaluate the values of betas in the B matrix!. Yes, that was no big deal! :) but for me, I always appreciate to see how/where did you get it more than how does the final form look like! As an undergraduate student I would say, you can either use another text and consult this one just in case! or you can get this one and save the other text's money ! 5 stars (Formulas done right) - This book is very good. I really like the way the formulas are given, with all the variables immediatelly defined. When reading it was amazing. As the questions arose in my mind as to what something meant, the next sentence or two satisfied my curiosity. While other books tend claim that a piece of information is "beyond the sc... 5 stars (Mechanical and Electrical Systems in Buildings, 2nd) - Very good book. Helps you understand the systems inside (and outside) of buildings in use everyday that most folks don't have a clue about. If you are interested in understanding how your building equipment functions this is a good book for you. Down to earth and well written. Recommend to property management personnel. 5 stars (Great book for newbies!) - If ur stepping into the building services industry, this book will be a comprehensive packaged info for your reading pleasure. Includes lotsa real-life diagrams, plan routings, concepts and explanation. It's 4am over here in Singapore and I've just finished reading one of the topics, just imagine how attractive the contents this book has! However, the only and regretable drawback is: the units are empirical which make it very difficult for me for in my country, we use SI metric units. ... 5 stars (Sweet!) - Rex Cauldwell is not only a master electrician, but a good writer too. This book is an informative and pleasant read. Highly recommended to any and all. 5 stars (If you need to wire your house--get this!) - It's a great book. I read it cover to cover and accomplished my projects. I'm even thinking I could wire a house. :) 5 stars (Outstanding book indeed!) - I would not consider this a beginner's book at all, although, a do-it-yourselfer with some inclination towards electricity could and would definitely benefit from having this book as a reference. I enjoyed reading this book because I didn't have to wade through the waters of electrical theory just to pick up tips of the trade from another pro. It's enjoyable and pleasant reading and someone who has worked with electricity (I am a licensed electrian) can enjoy Mr. Cauldwell's "electrical humor" while maintaining respect for electricity. I believe this book is "for pros by a pro, and, in reading it, you might be abe to obtain an overall, different perspective in which to execute electrical installations beginning with choice of tools, color-coding wire, selection of products, or, simply toting your tools around in a little red wagon vs. carrying them on your hip. I also appreciate his "theme" of safety throughout the entire book. There is nothing I didn't like about this book and I received a "red wagon" full of ideas and tips for a more than reasonable fee. 5 stars (The big book of boat systems) - This book nominally covers everything there is to do on a boat of an electrical or mechanical nature including diesel engines. But the vast majority of the book is on electrical equipment. After all, most of the things on the boat sooner or later wind up being part of the electrical system. Many boats have two electrical systems in parallel. There's the basic DC system, usually 12 volt, sometimes 24. Then there's an entirely separate circuit for 115 volt AC power used when the boat is docked at appropriate places. This book covers it all. The first chapters are on the battery itself and the circuitry around the boat. Then it gets into battery chargers, inverters, wind and water generators, solar cells, everything you ever wanted to know. There are chapters on corrosion, lightning protection, radios and antennas and on and on. About half the book is on purely electrical devices. The remaining half has chapters on engines, toilets, air conditioning and so on, but this also includes a lot of electrical devices such as autopilots, bow thrusters, and so on that may require electrical power. Basically this is the bible on how to fix things on the boat. You'll save a fortune on repair bills, and even more if you're halfway across the ocean. 5 stars (If You Could Only Have One Boating Book, this is the One) - If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take one CD with you, which one would you take and why? Years ago I used to listen to a program on the BBC that asked famous guests that question, only they said record, not CDs. Well I suppose I'd take Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" if I were in that fix. And if I were to go to sea on a cruising sailboat and could only take one book with me, it would have to be this excellent, well written book by Mr. Calder. It's big, heavy, expensive and if you need it, you'll be glad you have it and you'll think it's worth it's weight in gold. 5 stars (RV Repair Guid...
