5 stars (Much better than expected) - Ok, I bought about 4 CDS for polish an dthis was the best o all.....this CD was great because unlike "teach yourself Polish"...ALL the talk was in Polish with pictures and English written translation...so you could play it 500 times with NO WASTE at all since you'll keep hearing POlish so much much better than ';teach yourself polish " cd. it was also much better than polish immersion which was an insult. I highly reccomend this CD 5 stars (Fun way to learn some basic Polish words) - This program will teach you to read, write, and correctly speak some very basic Polish words and sentences. It's a great way to get excited about learning Polish. It is however quite basic. You will only learn about 300 words. But you will learn them very, very well. And you will speak them very, very well. The program allows users to listen as two native polish speakers say the same words and phrases. You can repeat these as often as you like. And you can record your own speach and replay it until your pronounciation is correct. You will learn basic words, colors, food items, phrases, numbers, how to tell time, names of body parts, names of things you may shop for, and polish names of various countries. As a bonus you can print out a very nice polish picture dictionary. To help reinforce your learning, there are many games that give you the opportunity to be challenged. These too are rather simple...but they are indeed fun. And finally...you do not need to understand english to use this program as a polish instructional tool, you can choose from 72 different host languages. In my opinion, Talk Now will teach you quicker and better than Pimsluer. When you are ready get the intermediate version of Euro Talk Polish called World Talk Polish. And forget Pimsluer, which is overpriced and over-rated. Same goes for Rosetta Stone and a few others. When you are ready for intermediate/advanced learning, then consider courses such as Colloquial Polish..etc. ... 4 stars (Good recipes for South Beach diet) - This book gives you other options that fit with all phases of the south beach diet. 5 stars (Eating Thin and Healthy Can Be Beautiful and Tasty!) - You will only be interested in this cookbook if you are a committed follower of The South Beach Diet. If you are an Atkins freak, go elsewhere! I lost 50 pounds on the South Beach Diet. To me, that accomplishment was less impressive than the fact that I couldn't lose weight on any diet before I tried this one. I think I had become insulin resistant, and everything I ate turned to fat . . . even when my calorie count was low. I found the diet appealing for some other reasons. First, I already ate a low fat diet and felt comfortable doing that. So I didn't have to change that part of my healthy eating. In fact, I was also being sure that I got "good" fats like omega-3 fatty acids from eating fish. Second, I could still eat carbs . . . I just had to avoid the ones that turn into instant blood sugar. Third, Dr. Agatston also introduced some new staples into my diet that I enjoy such as low-fat cheese snacks, having a few salty almonds, and eating steaming bowls of old-fashioned oatmeal. Fourth, and here's where the cookbook comes in, he introduced to me the idea of tasty, healthy ingredients I can use to spruce up simple foods. As a result, my cupboard has about twice as many spices as before (I love to put cinnamon on almost everything!) and my refrigerator has lots of new kinds of vegetables and fruits that I stir into all kinds of dishes. Suddenly, the ordinary becomes special and interesting! In this cookbook, Dr. Agatston once again calls on top chefs to show you how to make delicious, healthy dishes. Most recipes have fewer than 10 ingredients, and you probably already have most of them. The preparation and assembly are pretty straightforward. Even I can do these recipes! Each one also comes with nutritional descriptions of calories, saturated fat, protein,... 5 stars (This Book Changed Our Lives) - When my daughter was 7 months old she was waking up every 90 minutes and not napping well. I was exhausted and becoming anxious. I felt powerless to help her. I knew something had to change. A dear friend gave me this book and by coincidence a family meember also sent me the same book. This book is so good because it is filled with useful information that actually helped my family. I tried several of his recomendations with great results. Every now and then my daughters sleep will go through changes and I still consult this book for help. I have given it to many people. My own Pediatrician did not know as much about sleep as Weisslbuth does. Every new parent should own this book. I cannot say more good things about it. 5 stars (This saved my sanity (and probably my marriage)) - I can't say enough good things about this book. I read it when my son was 5 months old. Prior to that, he 'napped' during the day for about 30 minutes at a time and screamed the rest of the day and night. Turns out, he was seriously over tired and all of my attempts to get him to sleep were actually adding to the problem. The day I put the advice in this book into action, my life changed. I am actually able to enjoy my son. Buy it. Buy two just in case you lose the first one. 3 stars (Helped with naps...) - "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" is a good reference guide for getting your child to sleep better during the day. My son went from maybe taking one nap to taking 3 decent naps. I now know his "tired" signals and immediately put him to bed. It is very rare when he fights naps now. However, this book has not helped us with his night-wakings. The book tells parents to put the child to sleep between 6 pm and 6:30, my child won't sleep at 6 pm. He has gotten himself on a schedule where between 6:30 and 7 pm he wants to be in his pj's and eating and then put to bed. The book also suggests not getting the child when he cries...in other wo... 5 stars (fast shipping) - this is an old edition. but practically there is no difference. i saved a lot on this item. shipping is fast too 5 stars (Great Introductory Book) - I highly recommend Feinberg's 'Reason and Responsibility' to beginning philosophers. Feinberg presents various philosophical topics in an organized manner and selects text that is easy to understand for readers new to philosophy. Readers are weaned into the language of philosophy by first being presented with the jargon in the beginning of each section. It's a great book that covers a variety of topics, from arguments about God's existence to ethics to abortion. 5 stars (Great Anthology) - It is unclear whether my previous attempt to write a review of this book went through or not. If not, here goes again: A disclaimer: I have absolutely no connection with the authors or publishers and stand to benefit in no way from the sale of this book. My background: MA in philosophy and have taught as a teaching assistant on a number of philosophy courses at university level. Review: This is the best anthology of philosophical writing that I am aware of. It's strength lies in the range of readings it includes. The editors have, it seems, stayed very involved with their book and update the readings every few years. As a result this anthology includes some very recent material in addition to the classics. so, the reader has available to him/her a collection of writings that span nearly 2,500 years of Western philosophy. Note: it is an anthology of philosophy in the western tradition. A second notable strength of Reason and Responsibility is the introductory essays that appear at the start of each section. These are clear and especially helpful to those new to philosophy. It is also noteworthy that the editors have attempted to compile readings that give the reader a sense of the two sides to any given debate. This is not always the case with anthologies. One word of warning for those new to philosophy: mu... 3 stars (nice book) - I've seen better, but there is very little scribbling in it and that's what counts. Thank you. 5 stars (An Excellent Guide to Introductory French) - This book was used in my French 101 and 102 classes: Introductory French 1 and 2. I really liked it. Although its strength is grammar and vocabulary, it also teaches some French cultures in every chapter. You can learn listening with audio-CDs. But learning speaking is very hard if you self-study (based on my experience). I utilized the workbook and audio-tapes fully. They were very helpful tools to learn. A great collegiate introductory French book! 2 stars (Frustrating.) - Ditto "ashamed" previous. The workbook is difficult to use, and filled with errors. The tapes are frustrating and uneven, switching from too-difficult narratives to too-easy exercises. I've been through 18 chapters and 9 tapes, and can't speak. The textbook itself is better than the workbook and tapes. It is heavy on grammar and verb conjugation. ... 4 stars (Determination to Grow Rich!) - Determination is the key to success! How oft we dream to reach our goals and get what we want? It's the determination to Grow Rich - Get what you want and make up your mind till you succeed. The theme of this book is absolutely tempting and convincing to believe and after reading the book, it really boost up ego and motivates to grow in riches and succeed. By riches, do we mean just money? I guess not. Because this book is all about building up your own self esteem and living up to your desires till opportunity strikes your door and welcomes you. Napolean Hill in his book has set an example of the Edison Dictating Machine and Barnes took the opportunity to talk to Edison and suggested him that he can sell the product when Edison's salesmen were not enthu to sell it. Thus, Barnes became a business associate and proved he can 'Think and grow rich'. Thus, with yet more examples, the book gives an insight to use mind power and use the sixth senses and be persistent and determined until you get what you want. However, sometimes it's growing Rich in many areas and missed out is 'money power' which the author says to believe in self and things you can do. Success is ever personal and whatever you define it, you grow Rich - rich in thoughts, rich in awareness, in accumulating wealth, knowledge, etc. A good book for self betterment and feeling on high spirits. Good pick. 1 stars (One HUGE problem mars this book) - Hill offers the formula for success from Andrew Carnegie, giving suggestion, planning, decision making and other formula for becoming a success in buisness or anything you want to attempt. However, I was always troubled by ruthless buisness cut throats and what they were probably thinking to justify their practices. Where did that come from? Could it be they are just greedy? It's a little more complex than that. Since this seems to be the "Bible" for most buisness people,I decided to read the book. I found what I was lo... 5 stars (Essential clinical reference) - This book is an essential clinical reference for both NP students and practicing NPs. It is organized in an easy to use format. It contains up-to-date information on diagnosing and managing common illnesses seen in both children and adults. It also contains thorough information on health promotion. I would recommend this book to all students and new clinicians. 5 stars (Best Book For Practice) - we use this book in our practice as a policy book for mid-level providers. 5 stars (Invaluable Reference Tool) - As a nurse practitioner student, things were much easier once I discovered this reference. 5 stars (Good Drawings, Modernized Text) - I first went and looked at the Kama Sutra in the free on-line version at books-on-line.com. The price was certainly right. But it was the original, ancient text, and somewhat hard to follow. Damn good reading, but sometimes hard to imagine just what they were talking about. Now comes this edition, very reasonably priced which takes the positions and illustrates them with drawings. It's a lot easier to understand. I guess that I'm just a bit too simple minded. A lot of these look pretty interesting, but some of them (Face-to-Face Fandango, page 65) looks like it would hurt. The book is put out by Cosmopolitan, so it's oriented to the female side. Each position has a 'Why You'll Love It.' A little bit of 'Why He'll Love It' wouldn't hurt. After all this is a two person sport. 4 stars (The Cosmo Kama Sutra) - The pictures are great and it is really fun. Some of the poses I found were some we had just done naturally. All in all I recommend the book. 4 stars (Cosmo always good!!) - Great book!! This book put back the blazing fire in my relationship. 4 stars (A Good Textbook) - This textbook has a few features that are good for the first year student. First, the beginning chapters are mostly in English, introducing only a few Italian words at a time until the student builds up a vocabulary, and then, the lessons are gradually presented entirely in Italian. The supplement and appendix provides a quick reference to noun and adjective suffixes, indefinite adjectives and pronouns, possessive pronouns, and verb conjugations. The vignettes tell little cultural stories that make learning and remembering the material more meaningful. There are also Italian proverbs throughout the chapters that are fun to practice. This textbook is very good to use for refreshing on material. However, like many foreign language textbooks, all instructions eventually are presented entirely in Italian. Without a translated explanation of the assignment, students may not fully understand the exercise. Another problem is that there are many group exercises, so teachers have to watch students to make certain that the students are correctly doing the practice. There is no answer key for students on the exercises. There is also a lot of material covered in the book and it is nearly impossible to complete the entire book within the first year, so teachers need to plan well what types of exercises to do within the classroom and to carefully decide which exercises can later be assigned for outside homework. 5 stars (A Great Introduction to the Italian Language) - As a student of Italian for over 4 years, I returned to the language in college and used this textbook. The text was great...very current and up-to-date with everything Italian. Lab/video manual was a bit choppy but did the job for our listening assignments. Can't comment on the video component for this course set. This text is very similar to Parliamo Italiano! so either textbook would serve a new student well. 5 stars (Benissimo) - Well worth the wait. 5 stars (you need to want it) - After 15 years of heavy smoking it was the time to quit after my son was born. Whatsoever... it was a hard struggle and whenever i had the urge to smoke i picket up the book from Mr. Carr and it made the desire disappear. I did not use the book to quit smoking. (I did it cold turkey) it was actually not even after three month that i picket it up for the first time. When i had that urge and read a couple of pages it made me realize how stupid it was to ever light a cigarette again. I have not smoked since. It is still hard sometimes but whenever i feel the need to smoke i pick up the book instead. And i tell you. It works. 5 stars (I don't know how but it seems to work!!!) - I smoked for almost 18 years, 12 to 15 a day and never had the courage to have a serious attempt to quit. I tried reducing (I created spread sheets with graphs, daily averages, formulas to calculate rewards, penalties, comparing months, days, hours and all) for more than a year, which was an enormous struggle and did not help at all to reduce my desire to smoke and I think it made cigarettes even more precious for me than they were ever before. Recently, before boarding for a 7 hour flight, I bought a pack of nicotine gums - for the first time in my life. After trying it in the flight and afterwards, I realised it helped me and I didn't feel like smoking that much. So I set a date, stopped smoking cigarettes and started chewing nicotine gums from that day onwards. I was thinking that it was going very good by the help of miraculous nicotine gums and keep asking myself why I did not try them before. In the meantime, I had a tiny question in my mind: will it be also easy for me to quit nicotine gums when the time comes? After 10 days, I realized I don't crave for cigarettes anymore but for gums and took it as a good sign. As a coincidence, I heard about Mr. Carr's "way", seminars and books towards the end of the 2nd week of my attempt and decided to read the book ... 4 stars (A real tool for attaining health and fitness for life) - Body for Life for Women should be considered an essential guide for women's preventive heath. Because it is focused specifically on the unique health and fitness needs and problems encountered by women, it is much more valuable for women than general health or diet texts. While it promotes a plan of "12 weeks to a fabulous body"; to see it as a mere diet or fitness book sells short its real value. A diet book may help us (temporarily) lose a few pounds; this book aims to show us how to create a healthy body in which we can live independently throughout our lives. As a spokesperson on health, Dr. Peeke is the real thing. She is an expert on the most current understanding of nutrition, preventive health and women's issues. The book is well written, inspiring and accessible. It gives women, especially those of us over 40, real hope and guidance as we wonder why "what we have always done" to stay fit is not working any more. I found especially interesting the section on life milestones, which describes a woman's health priorities at each stage of life. The mind principles, which urge us to examine the attitudes that shape our behavior, are a wake-up call. Dr. Peeke is a big fan of the Nike slogan "Just Do It". In this book, she tells us exactly what it is that we must just do and provides the tools and motivation to keep doing it. 5 stars (You won't believe it!) - I have completed my 12 week program and am astounded by the results. I'm 53 and a dancer but I never thought my body would return to this level of fitness. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I decided to do some research to learn more about natural cures and basic understanding of this condition.. and this book has been awesome!! I have already changed things in my life.. from the ideas in the book.. I would say this is a MUST READ for anyone diagnosed with ADD or with a child with ADD... AWESOME BOOK!! 5 stars (Delivered From Distraction) - This book is so helpful and right on target with advice and solutions. The additional concepts and information it provides for people with ADD is just great. 5 stars (Practical tips in a highly readable narrative!) - Just finished reading this excellent followup book to Driven to Distraction. Dr. Hallowell has included his best suggestions from over 20 years of practice as well as his personal experiences with ADD. Unlike many of the ADD titles, this book is written with adults in mind, but it will also be helpful to parents of ADD children. Many of the chapters are extremely short. Dr. Hallowell emphasizes that you don't even have to read the whole book (but I couldn't put it down). You can start at the beginning or pick out any chapter that seems relevant to you - this strategy is perfect for adults with ADD and for the busy people who love them. 4 stars (Good book, bad DVDs) - This was the textbook for a university Arabic class I took. The book is good, but the included DVDs are awful and annoying. I recommend this book, but suggest purchasing the Instant Immersion Arabic 2-cd set to learn some vocabulary and phrases (for about $9.99). 4 stars (Great for self-study) - I met with a partner daily for an hour each day for 6-8 weeks, and we learned a great deal from this book. It is definitely good enough for self-study. The one problem is that for the vocabulary and cultural activities, it assumes you have a teacher to fill in the details, so we didn't get much out of those. We did learn to read, write, and pronounce all the sounds, and it's terrifically neat that I can now read basic Arabic signs which are in pictures in the newspaper. 3 stars (Workbook #1) - This is a somewhat cumbersome workbook designed for conventional advanced high-school or college-level classwork. I find it to be neither poor nor excellent, hence my rating of "3." It does not seem overly useful for self-study. One comical flaw on the front cover is the listing of the authors in English in an order that does not correspond to the listing in Arabic. ... At first I must say that it is quite hard to use until you've learned how to derive the root from a word, the alphabet of course, forms of words, and verb measures. Therefore I would definitely advise you to start with a cheap dictionary which is more easily understandable, at least until you learn the basics. Having said that, I have to tell you that anyone who says this is not a good dictionary was most likely just frustrated because they had not learned the basics yet. If you look the reviews, you'll notice that most complaints were from people trying to learn Arabic from the beginning with Hans Wehr. You'll also notice that anyone even remotely familiar with Arabic can't seem to praise it enough. Thats because once you're through learning the root system you are going to realize that the Hans Wehr is by far the most comprehensive and useful dictionary you'll find unless you're studying a very technical or esoteric subject. I guarantee that once you get your foundation in the language and have used this dictionary for a little while, other dictionaries will simply piss you off with how superficial and disconnected they seem. Just give it a little time. 2 stars (A one-way dictionary) - I found this dictionary to be totally useless because it only goes one way, Arabic to English. 4 stars (Worth reading, food plan needs work) - I am a 38 year old woman who is looking to lose about 20 lbs and tone up a bit. My middle area has expanded a bit in the past year and it is my mission to trim it back before I hit 40. The thing that attracted me to the health lifestyle outlined in Mr. Zinczenko's book was the stress on increasing one's metabolism. The food plan also was appealing as it incorporated many of the foods I already eat. I just needed to get some "organization" in how to eat them in order to achieve the results I was looking for. This is not a typical "high protein" diet. He stresses the importance (it's imperative, really) of eating whole grains instead of white flour and trans-fats. Fiber is essential to the mechanics of the body as it was designed. Caloric intake is not an issue in this book but I really disagree with that. Maybe he is saying that at first, one shouldn't count calories, instead, eat 3 smaller meals a day and at least two snacks, timed so that one never gets "hungry". Maybe this works when your metabolism is already jump-started, but for me, I can't eat snacks when I'm not hungry. I am the type of person who really doesn't like eating that much anyway so I guess I tend to eat more at a meal so that I "get it over with". This is proving to be the biggest struggle for me with this diet. I don't want to have to think too hard about "when it's time to eat" or "Oh gosh, I forgot my afternoon snack, there goes my metabolism". The book HAS taught me a lot though about foods I didn't know and the effect on the human body. The whole "eat fat, get fat" thing has always been confusing so it's nice to see the breakdown of "good fat, vs. bad fat". Also, I learned a lot about the nasty High Fructose Corn Syrup additive that is in EVERYTHING! After learning about it I went through my cupboards and refrigerator and was amazed at the amount of products that contains HFCS. I tossed everything that contains it. Even ...
