5 stars (Oz and Roizen make anatomy lessons entertaining and offer sound advice for staying healthy.) - `YOU: The Owner's Manual: An Insider's Guide to the Body that will Make You Healthier and Younger' is an interesting health book which teaches readers how the body works in relation to its anatomy and central systems, including hormonal, nervous, digestive, sensory organs, and immune. It also covers topics that deal with the brain, heart, digestive, reproductive glands, lungs, bones and joints. Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen have managed to make learning these topics both entertaining and enjoyable by including illustrations of pathogenic creatures whose role it is to portray illnesses that harm the body. There are also illustrations of benevolent elf creatures whose role it is to guide readers through different parts of the body in terms of names and functionalities. The authors have also incorporated a sense of humor, trivia, and a diet plan. In terms of humor, we have analogies between the activities of muscle cells when engulfing deceased heart tissue and the fighting that regularly presents itself on daily talk shows. In terms of trivia, the authors discuss the frequency at which one should have one's thyroid level checked. They reveal the quantity of air biscuit floatation produced by an average human per day. They also expose information regarding the quantity of times that most persons engage in intercourse. Finally, the authors invite their readers to try a 10-day, 30-recipe diet plan designed to benefit certain systems of the body such as that of immunity. This is an important book because not only does it mention how diseases start and the consequent effects that they have on one's body, but it also provides readers with advice on how to prevent or quash conditions that bear the potentiality to endanger the quality of their lives. Moreover, it also offers advice for ways to preserve the body's health and youthfulness, which in the long run, co... 2 stars (This is not the paperback edition of the textbook) - This book appears from amazon.com to be simply the paperback edition of the regular textbook, but it is not. Ordering this will get you a paperback "Study Guide" instead. The book is misrepresented or not clearly labeled on this site, and I suppose the phrase "5th sg" is supposed to be enough for us to tell what it is. Don't order this thinking that you will get a paperback edition of the textbook. 3 stars (Don't confuse the hardcover with the paperback) - One problem (maybe I'm just stupid): don't confuse the hardcover, which is the actual textbook itself, with the softcover, which is the supplemental answer key/review book. I bought the softcover thinking it was a cheaper, more flexible version of the 912 page text, which is cumbersome, and it's not. Maybe I'm just a lightweight at purchasing textbooks online. BB 5 stars (excellent text) - The text material is superbly organized and illustrated with great models, comprehensive tables, and wonderful photographs. It is a thorough work and, although not easy reading, explained about as clearly and completely as humanly possible. P.S. The review above does not seem to pertain to this book, but to a teacher's manual? ... 5 stars (A practical review of examination techniques) - Excellent simple to read text on how to examine the spine and extremities from the physiatry, orthopedic and neurologic viewpoints. This is a must for any practioner in the above fields especially medicolegal examiners and disability consultants. 2 stars (yuck) - Am i only one that really did not care for this text? Others are much more negotiable and useful such as Special Tests for Orthopedics. Save your money and check out other texts. 5 stars (Holy Smokes!) - Get it if you are looking for a good reference book to put on your desk that tells you how to locate various anatomical parts of the body (bones, ligaments, muscles, boney landmarks, various nerves and vessels too). Good pictures and clear explanations make this book a classic. Also liked "The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight Loss Plan, A Pocket Guide To What Works" for your overweight patients. ... 5 stars (Wow!) - I bought the book the first time because I had to. I bought it the second time because I wanted to. I am a Nursing student. I had to have two semesters of Anatomy & Physiology for Nursing. Like most students, I sold the book back to the bookstore after the second semester. MISTAKE! About half-way through my first semester of Nursing I found myself wishing I had the old A&P book again. So, I went and bought it. If there is anything you want to know about A&P, this book has it! What a marvelous book! It's not a book for the casual reader; find something else for that. But if you want to know the details of the body and how it works, BUY THIS BOOK! Most of the chapters have a beginning that kinda describes the particular section of the body. The remainder of the chapter then goes into details, and I mean details - as much as you can possibly want. I cannot imagine a better-written book anywhere! 5 stars (This is one of my favorite textbooks) - Although I'm not a big fan of college textbooks since they can be very long and tedious to read, this textbook is to the contrary. It had very relevent information relating to my college anatomy and physiology class that was right on pace with my college lectures. This is a good knowledge base for learning A and P. I especially liked the chapters on muscles and bones. Very interesting. However, when I study for college exams I usually also use study guides. I highly recommend Anatomy and Physiology for Dummies and for very to the point test preparation questions I found Anatomy and Physiology:Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Volume 1 and 2 to give me instant feedback of what I knew or didn't know for the test. Because of these books I did a lot better then I expected since I never had any prior teachings in anatomy and physiology. 5 stars (Written to be Understood) - I am in my second semester using Elaine N. 5 stars (Great reference book) - I am a yoga and Pilates instructor, and have always wanted a guide to understand the anatomy of all the poses, especially those concerning lower back issues. Now I have a great guide that helps me aproach these poses in a much safer way. 5 stars (Should be Required for Yoga Teachers!) - I'm currently in training to be a yoga teacher, and this book is required reading for my courses. It really goes into detail, as it applies to yoga postures and breathing. It's a must-have for the serious yoga student or teacher. It will help you make the most of your postures, and understand the mechanics involved. It will also help you explain and cue poses if you are a yoga instructor. 5 stars (Amazing) - This book is simply a treasure. Full of hard to find information you probably wont find anywhere else. Just buy it. ... 3 stars (Why so large?) - I am a University of Minnesoota student and we use this text for our introductory Human Anatomy course. (Unfortunately they came out with a new edition and I couldn't sell it back to the bookstore.) Strictly in terms of the content this book was average because I often needed more information on certain aspects of the human anatomy. My real frustration was due to the fact that I feel the publisher should have supplied a carrying case specifically designed to carry such a large, awkward book. I realize that the size contributed to larger pictures but I feel it was a bit overboard! Finally, as I mentioned before, a new edition came out very recently. The new book resembles the previous edition too much. It's unfortunate we live in such a capitalistic society as to allow such a situation to take place.. ... 5 stars (Detailed and well illustrated resource) - Very detailed resource and well illustrated, the book has answered a multitude of questions I had about coordination, muscle conditioning and anatomy. It is a must for dance instructors. The book is very well organized and researched. Excellent! 5 stars (Excellent review of ... ligaments!) - In all of my materials as a massage therapist, none of them covered ligaments functions, names and locations as well as this one! Beautiful illustrations and it's a book that makes you get up and move every few minutes as you're reading! 5 stars (Excellent introduction to anatomy and kinesiology) - As other reviewers have said, this is an excellent introduction to anatomy and kinesiology. The book strikes the perfect balance between clinical detail and practical knowledge for body-workers, athletes and dancers. We have copies of several pages up on the wall at my Pilates studio which get referred to often. All the major skeletal muscle groups of the limbs and torso are covered. It is not a disection manual. It is organized for students of movement. Of particular value is the section on the work of the psoas and the "psoas paradox" that is somewhat controversial. To get more in depth, one text I can recommend for the dancer/Pilates instructor is "Dance Kinesiology" by Sally Sevey Fitt. ... 5 stars (Wonderful learning tool!) - I am an instructor/trainer and this book is wonderful for informing students how the horses body is put together and why some horses move differently than others. It also gives the student a chance to see the inside workings of the horse so that they better understand the vet and farrier when they have to explain what is wrong with the horse and treatment options. This book would also benefit anyone who wants to know more about the horse's anatomy. Not to mention it is fun to color! 5 stars (Nice Muscle Sketches) - I wish that I had this book last year. I did a muscle and joint force project for which I needed detailed muscle diagrams of the horse's hindquarters. When I needed the illustrations, of course, I could not find any that had the appropriate level of detail (not online, through videos, books, etc). For this reason when I recently saw this book it. I would strongly recommend that any other rider or person with a starting interest in horse healthcare do the same. This is an excellent addition to a equine reference library. My version is spiral bound and had clear crisp black and white illustrations that can be xeroxed or colored in. 5 stars (perfectly simple) - The coloring atlas of horse anatomy is a wonderful tool for the study and understanding of the horse anatomy. It is presented to the viewer in a form of simplicity but at the same time with unmatchable professionalism and details, evidently the author has a great respect, knowledge and understanding of the noble animal and the viewer as well. The atlas is easily approachable by the first time student for its easy and clear graphical and illustrative format. The idea of "do it yourself" it's great. Coloring the components of the horse anatomy while studying it helps the anatomist to impress the subject in his/her mind with remarkable and undeleting results. One of his kind. Without any doubt necessary for a serious study of the horse anatomy. ... 5 stars (Excellant animal anatomy book) - This book is excellant for the study of anatomy of all mamals. The pictures were very desciptive and the text helped to explain things alittle. The book doubled as a coloring book if one chose to use it as such to help reinforce where things were located. The only thing I wished it had was information on birds. 5 stars (Better than Dyce) - This a great book that gets right to the point instead of dancing around it like dyce. I highly recommend it to all of my fellow vet students. It will save you tons of time! 4 stars (Everyone wants Pasquini) - I'm a vet student in the Philippines and even though we have anatomy books in the library, i really found it hard to study it. So I guess Pasquini has really simplified the subject, breaking it down into tables and diagrams and simple texts. it even has "clinical" boxes so you can appreciate what you're studying! if you're a first year stude, it'll help you become familiar with a lot of diseases, IM or IV sites, etc. My classmates find the pictures very cute (as w/ many others). I'm restudying it right now to prepare for surgery. it's just been a direct, miracle book. On the other hand, no colored pictures and the systemic approach can bog you down with locating some stuff. and sometimes, i get confused with the diagrams, but that's just me. ... 1 stars (TEXTBOOK ) - I ORDERED MY ANATOMY BOOK A MONTH AGO, AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVE IT YET. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. IF THE SELLER DOES NOT HAVE IT, I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY BACK TO MY CREDIT CARD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! 4 stars (Essential for A&P Students.) - I own the International Edition of this book, ISBN 0-321-20413-1. Very good use of English, clear and easy to understand - even complex areas are explained fully and legibly. Excellent use of rich graphics and photographs where appropriate, and a very useful set of appendices at the back with everything from normal values for most blood tests to a Periodic Table. Accompanying CD and website both very helpful for the A&P student. Highly recommended. Why 4 stars? Since I am not in the USA, I have to use a scaled down version of the MyA&P website and find it just a little confusing to find my way in (once I'm there it's OK though). Also a tad heavy to be lugging around campus all day! ... 4 stars (Nice and Well Organized Book. ) - I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy. The diagrams are clearly listed, but of course I've seen a few errors. The information is just so much. Unless you are crazy about this, I doubt you'll remember much without reviewing it over and over continuously on a weekly if not daily bases. Almost each part in the diagram is listed out on the same page or a few pages back and forth to give the reader a more precise knowledge if the reader intends to know more of what the diagram/photo represents part for part. The information is simply mind blowing and pretty exhausting to remember. Most readers of this and other anatomy/medical/etc related books would sooner or later ask themselves "who the heck would make up all these silly names and expect us to memorize it?!" The information is a little too compact for me and this is the only problem I have with this book, the simple fact that its a lot to comprehend and doesn't seem very intended in my Physiology and Anatomy basics class. Like always, mix other text books with this one if you intend to get everything out of this subject. No one book is perfect. Otherwise, its a decent book overall. 3 stars (Tolerable) - This book has some useful diagrams and illustrations. It's easy to read, but seems a bit too simplified at times. Also, I think the editors we...
