5 stars (A great book) - At the beggining I hate the S4/IEE term but at the end I loved the book because it has a lot os technical information about statistics as it promises. 5 stars (Comprehensive Six Sigma stats w/ exercises) - I got what I was looking for, a comprehensive statistics book applied in Six Sigma world. It covers everything a SS professional needs to use to be able to successfully solve the vast majority of the statistical problems throughout Six Sigma projects. Excellent book overall! 4 stars (Six Sigma - Breyfogle) - A thorough reference book for Six Sigma and the implementation process. As a beginner, I have found it very dense. It seems to explain everything involved in Six Sigma in great detail, but it does not offer examples, so ought to be supplemented with other reference materials. ... 1 stars (False Ad!) - This book is not Hardcover as stated in the ad. The book is not for sale in the US and Canada and it is clearly marked on the cover. It's violating the Copyright Act. I gave it one star because there was anything lower than that. 5 stars (BEAUTIFUL BOOK) - THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE BOOK - IT WAS RIGHT IN TIME FOR CLASS! GREAT USED CONDITION - EXACTLY AS LISTED...THANKS AGAIN! A++++ 2 stars (This book will do more to confuse the student) - This book is so poorly organized that even the instructor who taught from it did not go through it sequential manner. Difficult subject matter is not covered in big picture to small detail way, but instead is spread through out the book with little or no information on WHY things in organic chemistry work they way they do, and then it is not even cohesively brought to a summary. There are not nearly enough mechanisms nor complicated synthesis. It does touch on retro synthetic analysis but then offers very little opportunity for the student to practice complicated and varied synthesis. The problems given at the end of the chapter are way to simplistic! It seems that this book tries to complicate Org much more than neccessary. ... 5 stars (Bullseye!) - This was a great read! It is right on the money with all the issues that those of us entering middle age should be thinking about and acting upon. The book is life-affirming and inspirational! 5 stars (A GREAT READ!!! ) - A great read!!! As someone about to enter this stage of my life it was a great guide and opened my eyes to the endless opportunities that still lie ahead of me. I have always loved the quote " you know you are getting old when your regrets outweigh your dreams"...this book has encouraged me to keep dreaming and stop regretting!!! 1 stars (What a disappointment!) - Totally agree with earlier reviewer -- a waste of $. A general mish-mash, all-around guide trying to cover both ends of the age spectrum with too much generality and rah-rah for what we already know. Not one to keep as a reference. So sorry to see one of my favorite no-nonsense financial columnists, Jane Bryant Quinn, touting this book on the flap. Her credibility slipped a notch. ... 4 stars (Good book) - It's relatively well written and good for starter who are new to building construction. 5 stars (Surpassed expectations) - Being a student in Construction Management Edward Allen's book was assigned as our text book. The course entitled materials and methods is intended to teach future construction manajors about the wide variety of materials on the market today as well as tradional methods of constructing with these materials. The book is chalked full of knowledge most of which would take a person hours, even days of research to uncover with other sources. It is very comprehensive. If you are active in the comercial building construction this book is a must for your refrence shelf. Residential construction owners/workers would gain considerable knowledge from the book it has plenty of useful information however I feel the book is leaning more towards heavy commercial. 4 stars (Good reading--too expensive) - The author's readable style helps a lot. Also, interesting background material and history begin each chapter, and some industrial processes--glass-making, for example--are explained more fully. You won't regret reading this book, but you may be inclined to sell it when you're through. ... 5 stars (cheap price, good condition) - book had no highlighting or writing in it. cover was somewhat bent when delivered but not too bad. all in all, a good buy. 4 stars (language of the text) - The manner in which the text is written is very helpful to those like myself who are new to Organic Chemstry; however, the referals to Chapter... for this and Chapter...for more information on this, makes it difficult to read the actual text sometimes. 1 stars (This book sucks!) - I had to buy this book for my Organic Class and I hate it! If I am going to pay textbook prices for a book, I expect it to be professionally written, not shifting into first and second person and speaking in sentence fragments. I was supposed to keep it for 2nd semester, but I hated it so much I sold it back after first semester was over. What a waste of money. ... 4 stars ( Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook ) - The recipes are great...I have used this book already and have been pleased 4 stars (This is a great cookbook for everyone!) - A cookbook full of healthy, great tasting recipes that everyone can enjoy. There is a variety of recipes so you are sure to find something that everyone can enjoy! 3 stars (Serving Size Please) - This book has easy to read instructions with helpful tips and suggestions. I love the recipes I have tried, but I do have 2 complaints. Some of the ingredients are difficult to find especially in the small town where I live and the recipes state how many servings but leave it up to me to fighure out the serving size. This makes it too easy to make mistakes. Other than that I love the book and all of the additional information that it provides. ... 5 stars (Excellent service) - It was incredible. I ordered it on wednesday night, it was shipped on friday and I got it during the weekend. Besides the book was new in perfect conditions! Thank you. 2 stars (A textbook for college business majors (only?)) - If you want a general IT book then don't even think about buying this one, despite its title. This is a textbook for college business majors, and looks at things from the business angle. The book is less suitable for non-student readers. It is geared for use by a lecturer who can draw attention to the important concepts underlying the field of IT, and can steer students to useful supplementary material. The book races across the surface of the whole field of IT. The authors have packed in a lot of material, but at a cost. The explanations may be good enough for students to answer a quiz about the various buzzwords, but there is not enough space here to cover anything in depth. The students, and you, may be left without a clear idea of what the words really mean. At the other end of the scale, the book struggles to make plain the broad sweep of IT concepts. Although the authors try hard, ideas tend to get lost amidst the large number of factoids. One book is never going to be enough to cover all of IT. Your choices are to be more selective about which area you want to learn about, to pick a book which is more clearly aimed at being a simple overview, or to buy this book and work really hard at following up its leads to other material to fill in the gaps. ... 3 stars (Complete Adult Psychotherapy Treatment Planner) - This book is interesting, but it is far too "testbooky" and would benefit from being more focused on specific "how to" examples of treatment plans as do many other similar efforts. The text makes interesting reading, but, it didn't provide the concrete examples I expected. 5 stars (Another great tool for the practioner's tool box.) - Research suggests that an ever increasing number of practioners are relying on tools such as this to help formulate treatment plans. As a graduate student, what I find useful about this book is that after you study a particular disorder---from the DSM-IV-TR itself, a good psychopathology text (see Davison & Neal's Abnormal Psychology), and the DSM's Diagnostic Criteria handbook, The Adult Psychotherapy Treatment Planner completes the loop. I bought this book after taking a case studies class where the instructor did an absolutely miserable job in showing us the rhyme and reason behind a good treatment plan. Not satisfied that I knew enough about this critically important piece in the counseling process, I did some research and found this book to be the most highly regarded in this genre. As subsequent classes deal with child and adolescent psychopathology, family psychopathology, etc. etc. I will be getting the treatment plans that correspond with these issues. 5 stars (Thank You.) - Just what I needed, such a time saver now I can actually use my brain power to help not just write about it--Thanks again. ... 5 stars (Still great!) - I used this book for my Electrical Engineering curriculum way back in 1977-1981, and I remember the pleasure I had learning Math from it. In some cases I hardly took notes in the class, but relied almost completely on the book to learn the subject. Well, it's almost 30 years later, and I've decided to re-learn the Math I loved so much but lost over the years. What a surprise to find Kreyszig's book is still around. I believe the reason for its longevity is just that it presents the complcated Math very effectively. When studying a particular subject, it was sometimes necessary for me to go back and re-read and re-read (the Math covered is not easy!), but the concept was there waiting for me to find it. I believe this book is an excellent tool for grasping some very complicates subjects. 5 stars (The all-in-one math reference book) - I love this book! I'll tell you why. As a student of Mechanical Engineering, I have taken all the mandatory Math courses that every student takes. During this time, however, I was advised to use a plethora of math books that employed different notations and had different approaches to solving the same problems. Now, this resulted in me knowing the mathematical procedures to solve problems without understanding what the math actually meant. What I desperately wanted was one all encompassing book-something like a reference manual that would contain all the information about every topic in mathematics you could ever think of, one book which would follow a consistent notation and offer a consistent approach to solving problems. This is exactly that book! This book is not meant to be a used for a first course in Engineering math. Hence, if you find yourself overwhelmed by this book, use a more detailed book dealing with your particular topic of interest and then return to this. This is how this book is meant to be used. Thanks. 1 stars ( Advanced Engineering Mathematics ) - This book is useless as a learning too... 5 stars (Counseling the Culturally Diverse: Theory & Practice) - Sue & Sue have revised their book with wonderful results. This time they include a section "Clinical Implications" in each chapter, this adds to the information and helps with the teaching of this necessary subject. As usual Sue & Sue are thorough and thoughtful in their presentation. They also include the notion of Organizational Culture as a needed subject of study. I highly recommend this book for any clinican and professor who works in the field of psychology. Dr. Gabrielle M. Guedet, Ph.D., MFT 4 stars (Good Book, some problems with it.) - This was required reading for a class I was taking in multicultural issues. It was very interesting but it was hard to read parts of it because of the nature of confronting our biases that the book addresses. I did have some issues with the way the book approached discussing the role of white people in society. It was almost as if the authors wanted me to feel bad about being white. Overall it was very informative and gave really good examples and implications for clinical use. 1 stars (A Biased Look at Bias in America) - I must add my disappointment to many others who have already posted here. This book is required reading in my masters in counseling course, and I was hoping for something that would provide valuable guidelines to reach across cultures in counseling. Unfortunately, Sue & Sue make it quite clear that the only reaching across cultures to be done is by White Americans. Whites are painted as being responsible for all bias in our country while non-Whites are to be held responsible for nothing. Period. Just because these two authors (or any authors, for that matter) are considered the experts in their field does not mean they are necessarily correct. It is impossible for any human being to approach any subject without bias, yet overall Sue & Sue hold only Whites accountable for recognizing and correcting their biases. At the same time... 4 stars (Good study aid but watch out for errors) - I am in the process of studying for the CPA exam (I take the Audit section tomorrow), so I haven't worked my way through all of the books in this 4 volume set. Each of the books is divided into 'modules' to help you study by topic area. The information presented at the beginning of each module is concise and well laid out; a great aid to learning. The multiple choice questions in each module are challenging and the answers provided help to explain the correct answers. Three of the books (except BEC) have 'simulation' questions. These are a valuable resource in studying, however, Whittington and Delaney have done a poor job of editing these simulations and the problems and answers are riddled with errors. So, watch out! These errors can be a source of much frustration. Overall, this 4 volume set has helped me improve my knowledge for the CPA exam. Happy Studying! ... 4 stars (Thoughts from both sides...) - Because this book is paperback, and only the first half of the entire book it is awesome. As far as the information goes inside, it is helpful. The only thing that bothers me about this book is that some of the problems at the end of the chapters make NO sense what so ever, and there is no help in sight of figuring out HOW to do the ridiculous problem they present. I have heard, though, that this is true of any physics book and that you can still make a good grade without ever getting the book's answer for homework problems. Another unfortunate thing is that unless you are a professor you really have no say in whether you get this book or not. =) 2 stars (Newton betrayed) - At a first glance I was attracted by this book and reccommendd it to the library. But later I realized tha the too many figures are close to be junk stuff...but later on I discovered a very band thing: Calculus is completely absent, i.e., the powerful instrument devised by Netwon and Leibniz is completely avoided and I think deliberately. A book for ignorants of mathematics and a betrayal of Newton and Leibniz, that what it is. In my country it would not even be adopted for High Schools. 4 stars (solid textbook) - this comment only refers to volume one of the text, as i bought the two separately and just finished physics I. i hated physics in high school and almost failed it too. i got an A this time around, by studying the book. my professor in college wasnt of much help, so the class had to learn from the text. for the most part, the concepts are very well explained, with sample problems throughout the text. there is also a very helpful website which has concept understanding questions, chapter tests and interactive solutions. there are more than enough review questions at the end of the chapter, with answers to odd problems at the back of the book. the book is especially good for explaining kinematics in 1 and 2D, if that's a problem for ... 1 stars (Not what I was looking for) - I am a Ph.D candidate, and I was looking for some help in one my Psychological Assessment classes. I did not find any help in this book. This book is written for the layperson, and may be a source of basic information on current psychological tests. However, for the professional looking for additional information it is disappointing. 5 stars (the gold standard) - This text has quickly become the gold standard for both students and practitioners of psychological assessment. It is unique in that it is extremely practical and applicable to day to day practice, yet it is thoroughly grounded in research--which is succinctly cited throughout the text. And, somehow, each volume gets better. This is not a book that will collect dust on a shelf--clinicians will find sage guidance in this text. 5 stars (Excellent resource for practicing clinincians and students) - Having read/reviewed numerous 'handbooks,' this is probably the best of the breed. Groth-Marnat has done an excellent job of covering the main assessment techniques used by clinicians to psychologically evaluate patients. Clinicians will find this handbook indispensable, and, in fact, (I predict) will keep it parked on their desk for ready access. Students will find the book thorough, informative and practical. 4 stars (MERCK'S REVELATIONS) - This edition of "The Merck Index: An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, & Biologicals" shows remarkable improvement over its predecessor. Boasting of diverse groups of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, it is a success in its own right. There are just plenty to be explored! The book brims with accurate up-to-date information. Pharmacists, Medics, Chemists, Biologists, Physicists, Agriculturists, and many other professionals who work with elements, compounds and mixtures will find this book very useful. It is revised, and is complemented with detailed descriptions, which include molecular formulae, molecular weights, as well as the percentage compositions of constituent chemicals in a compound or mixture. It is a valuable reference tool. 5 stars (Excellent chemical reference!) - This book must be the most organized reference book I have ever used. Its so fulfilling to be able to find exactly what you're looking for when you need it. Includes a common name index, chemical formula index, as well as registry numbers, therapeutic categories for drugs, useful tables, and organic chemical equations. highly recommended! 3 stars (one of those things a chemist shouldn't be without) - While not the first reference book I would recommend for a general library, it is certainly one a library or chemist's office shouldn't be without. This is an encyclopedia, with abstracts on zillions of chemicals. Is this the most authoritative book on the planet? No. If you want that, go read Chem Abstracts. I can count using the fingers of one hand the number of books I have read on the subject that are worth their weight in cotton candy. 5 stars (THE place to start) - I bough 20 books before this set. I was wondering if the older Derivatives book was really worth $450 used without the CD. This is the place to start. It is written with style and humor coupled with a pace that is simple to adjust to. I judge a book by how many equations it has - more is BETTER! This set strikes a balance. The exposition is solid. It covers many specialized topics like Energy Derivatives (just a taste, mind you, but it is there to get us thinking). I guess the bottom line is this book allowed me to start thinking like a Financial Quant and less like a mathematical physicist. I have gotten much more out of the other more mathematical works because I understand how the Quants think. I still like The Physics of Finance by Ilinsky. This is more than the past Derivatives book (that makes up the first 65% of volume 1) and sets a real tone to understanding - this is just what I was looking for as I re-tool. Buy this FIRST. Read the TOC. Get moving! 1 stars (Insufficient) - This is not as good as Wilmott's earlier work, and even that could have benefited from better definition of terms. Wilmott needs to brush up on the latest techniques and talk to some practitioners to learn how to apply math to real world examples. It seems there is a lack of depth of understanding evidenced by the writing. The sections of self-expose are an embarrassment. 1 stars (Old Material) - This is recycled Wilmott, but not even as good as earlier work. His first book was better, probably because his co-authors talked some sense into him. His personal anecdotes demonstrate a low emotional IQ. It is as if Wilmott thinks that if readers agree with the finance they must agree with his incessant and juvenile self-regard. My reaction to the inappropriate self-expose was: "Who cares? Get some friends, they might help on the financial aspects of this book". Wilmott's financial IQ is only average, if this book is to be the evidence. It ...
