4 stars (Fun, but overall...) - Now, don't get me wrong here. Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth is a very pleasing, eye-catching game that can keep one entertained for quite a long time. But if you choose to venture on a campaign, after returning to your computer to play a bit more again and again, you'll begin to notice that the game starts to become more and more repetitive as you progress. In the game, your goals are very simple: Build some places, nab some resources, beat the stuffing out of people who get into your way. The variation in scenery and in different battalions is pleasing and adds to the eyecandy of the game, but eyecandy doesn't make the playing much more fun - thus, even in the larger, more exciting battles, I began to get bored as the game progressed. Overall, the game will be a great enjoyment for hardcore LOTR fans, but for people who aren't as attatched to the series, it may be a bit of a disappointment - especially considering the heavy price. If you love games with fancy graphics and heaps of battle events, though, it's worth the $40 dollars you'll spend on it. 3 stars (Great Singleplayer, Lackluster Multiplayer / Replayability) - If you're looking at this game for the single player campaign, you won't be disappointed. It's fun and pretty lengthy. The graphics and the combat are all superb, as is the storyline and voice acting, much of which is done by the actors from the movies. However, this game has two faults: 1) Replayability. There really isn't any. It's a shame because with the "Risk-style" overhead map of middle earth, they could have turned this into some sort of large scale strategy wargame without much more effort. Instead, it's a fairly linear game and once you've played it through once there's not much point in playing it through again. So the campaign is long and fun but replayability is low. 2) Multiplayer isn't that great. I'll go into some depth on this: Multiplayer will seem fun at first. It's wel... 5 stars (Challenging and loads o fun!!) - I recently bought this vidoe game. Although i'm a teen, i absolutely love it!! it' challenging, fun and addictive. it's not too hard foryounger kids, but parents will struggle too! i recommend that you buy this, it's great, clean fun and Spongebob is soo cute! 1 stars (I do not recomend at all) - My children had been playing with Mario's World and the Incredibles for over 3 months. We bought this game given the good reviews but after 1 day I am very disappointed. My kids have been for over 4 hours in level two, collecting points little by litte repeting the same routines ... they who love gamecube games, got really bored and turned it off. There are no indications whatsoever about what to do in order to enjoy this game. 5 stars (Unadulterated Fun) - This is the most fun I've had playing a video game since the NES days of Super Mario Brothers. THQ continues to dazzle and amaze me with their stellar attention to graphics, detail and gameplay. The Battle for Bikini Bottom pits Spongebob, Patrick & Sandy against the evil Plankton who has created robots to take over the world. The tasks are achievable and leveled just right for its' targeted age range. But, most of all this game is just plain fun to play. Each character has special moves that enable you to achieve tasks. Being able to switch between characters for different tasks made the game more enjoyable for me. The game is somewhat long but rewarding, as the storyline is funny and entertaining. Overall, the Battle for Bikini Bottom status as a player's choice game (over 1 million copies sold) should cement it's status as a must own for the Nintendo Gamecube platform. Highly Recommended. ... 3 stars (not so good) - Mahler writes for a magazine and he doesn't make any accomodation for a longer project. Pretty thin presentation. 4 stars (Ladies and Gentlemen the Bronx is burning) - This is a very entertaining and well researched book about the events in the New York in 1977. 5 stars (A Great Read!) - You do not have to be a New Yorker to like Jonathan Mahler's "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning." I live in the rural South, and really loved the book. Anyone who loves baseball, history, politics, New York, the late 1970's, or just good writing will thoroughly enjoy this book. My wife and I both loved this book. I am old enough to remember what we in Georgia thought of the Big Apple in that critical year of both bad news and hope. To know how the various story lines actually played out only enhances the fun of knowing what a mess things were in 1977. ...
