Wizcom QuickLink Elite Pen Scanner E04087

1 stars (USB doesn't work) - I tried the CD to install the USB connection between pen and PC. Failed so many times. I tried for one month, I decided to return it. And I hope I still can get full refund. 1 stars (Doesn't work with OS X) - I want to like this thing, but I can't, for it does not work at all with OS X. So, if, like me, you run Apples, just pass on by this page because the thing will not work for you. 3 stars (Not as good as the C-Pen 800C) - I'm measuring, first and foremost, ease and precision of scanning. Speed of scanning and ease of installation on the computer are, in my mind, about the same for both this, the Wizcom QuickLink Elite, and the C-Pen 800C. They differ sufficiently, however, in the primary question of ease and quality of scanning. For the record, I bought both at the same time, with the intent of keeping the better of the two. You can just go ahead and buy the C-Pen 800C. I have had one horrible experience with a pen scanner by Siemens, the "Pocket Reader." It was truly useless. It scanned so poorly that I just put it aside. By the time I though to return it, Siemens was no longer making it, and I couldn't get customer service here in the U.S. The Wizcom QuickLink Elite is not so bad. It's serviceable. I don't think it lives up to its 95% accuracy guarantee, but perhaps meets a 90% threshold, measured impressionistically. It's interface is also reasonable and satisfactory. However, the C-Pen 800C is even more precise, truly approaching 95%. Moreover, if you discount errors in spacing from this accuracy percentage, its precision is even higher. Whereas the Wizcom is just as likely to make a content error, misread letters, etc., the 800C's errors are more likely to be the absence of a space when there should be one. A rare missed space doesn't make you puzzle over the text when you come back to it two months later. C-Pen is also lighter, and it's rechargeable, so while it's more expensive, in the long run, you'll save on batteries. Bo...

5 stars (A great source of information for the independent.) - The information is very useful, just the e-book information itself is extremely valuable. The other "reviewer" said that he did not find it useful, and that there was no flexibitliy. However, I disagree, you can make any information as flexible as you choose by simply "exporting" the data. Many forms here, give you all the legal basics that I simply could not find on line (that is without having to pay for it). There is very little information that you can actually obtain for free anymore, and if you find it, you've probably invested hours upon hours of time that could be better spent running your business. I'm thrilled with my Legal Business Pro, now I can do all the work myself, and finetune it as I see fit (by simply exporting the finished document). And for a business owner that does business in several states, it has you covered, as you simply select which state(s) and it extracts the information relevant to you needs. A great resource, for those who would rather do their own work than shell out cash every time they need a simple legal form drafted. 5 stars (The best software product for small business !) - This is a great software product for small business owners. It has dozens of forms, sample letters, and worksheets to help with forming a business, hiring employees, borrowing and lending money, leasing space, etc. In addition to the forms, it includes the full text of five Nolo books: Legal Guide for Starting & Running a Small Business, Tax Savvy for Small Business, Everyday Employment Law, Marketing Without Advertising, and Leasing Space for Your Small Business. The books alone make this an amazing deal. Given Nolo's reputation for plain English self-help materials, this is a must-have for any business owner's computer. ResumeMaker Career Edition

3 stars (Dissapointed with the Resume Maker Software) - I recently purchased this software from Amazon, and I've been experiencing technical problems from the moment it was installed on my computer. I am using the program at work, on my brand new Dell system, and it just won't act right! The print preview function creates error messages, and when I printed my resume the software placed weired lines and boxes on my resume. I've contacted tech support, and they are unsure as to what the problem might be. They've asked me to switch printers, remove the software, and then install the software. We've been going back and forth for about 2 weeks. I've used a previous edition of Resume Maker and I had technical problems with the software, but I assumed it was because my computer was a bit older. As for the content of the software, I do feel that it offers some useful information. You are provided with a resume coach, with tips on the types of resume that may suit you. I'm giving this product 3 stars because of the quality of the software. 2 stars (Disappointed by poor quality software...) - I was very disappointed by this software. Sure it has some good features (that's why I gave 2 instead of 1) but the built in word processor is terrible (Nope, I was not expecting another MS Word but at least expected consistency between various features/parts of the software). One of the supposedly great features of Resumemaker is the ability to preserve some general formatting if you choose to (e.g.) send the resume as plain text (an important thing mind you) in an e-mail. It does so by offering a number of styles for formatting your Resume. For example, for the Summary section, you can choose a bulleted list as formatting style. Resumemaker would create one card for each bullet item you create. If you send the Resume as plain text in an e-mail, Resume maker would format each of these bullet items with a * in front. 3 stars (Great beginning - but I wish for a bit more) - As a freelance web designer/graphic artist I live in a perpetual state of stock photography desperation. I bought this BizArt package in the hopes that it would give me at least a starting point of business photography into which I could reach for those jobs that just don't warrant getting the expensive stuff from Getty or Corbis. On one hand I love this set, on the other I don't. I confess I was hoping for more full-frame photos, even though I know Hemera is mostly known for its "photo objects". There are some, but not always enough of the type I've wanted. My other complaint is a lack of diversity. Most of the group shots of people are standard caucasian yuppy types. As someone who prefers to represent more diverse racial makeups in my designs, this was very limiting and disappointing. I have frequently had to resort to taking a person of another nationality out of one group and try to insert them into another - not a time-saver. However I do use the clip photos provided here often as a good basis for other pieces. Not a set you want to rely on solely as your source of business photos, but a good starter for the price and a lot better than many cheaper sets I've seen around. ...

1 stars ((Zero Stars if I could) The worst font software ever!) - As a graphic designer, I bought this software for use with my freelance work. This software boasts 750 fonts. Nowhere on the box does it happen to mention that the fonts can ONLY be used for personal use. I had to open the box first, after I had purchased the program. Now, all 750 fonts in the software are completely useless to me. Heck, they could offer 10 million fonts in their software packages if they want, but what good is it if I can't use them for my freelance work? Aside from being deceived about the fonts, the FontManager software they boast about requires the CD be inserted into your computer for it to work. That means that if you're designing something (as you would presumably be doing with this font software) you couldn't insert other CDs, like for instance, stock art CDs -- all because this inferior piece of junk software must use that CD drive in order to work. I wasted $30 on this useless piece of junk. Please don't make the same mistake. ...

Palo Alto Business Plan Pro 2005 Old Version

1 stars (Won't even install without manual hack) - So, I wanted some software help in writing my very first ever business plan. This one came highly recommended from reviews here, and elsewhere. So I bought a copy. Guess what? Won't install. Get "Error 1935". I click on 'Contact Us' from the installer. Tech Support? It's a toll call-- no 800 number. So I go to the web page. Track down an article on this problem. The Fix? About an hour's worth of manual labor on my part that *might* fix it-- Palo Alto Software would really like to hear from me if it works. Not likely. This is being returned today. 1 star for putting a product on the floor that won't install, and then offering a fix that requires 21 manual steps, including a diagnostic boot in Windows XP. I'll just write up my business plan in Word, thank you very much. 5 stars (Perfect for me...) - It has everything that I need, easy to understand it complicate and not complicate business plans (as I wish). Help function is good but lack of hard copy manual or availabilty of one is a disappointment. 3 stars (Missing features of previous versions) - Visio 2003 Pro is a good product, but the fact that several key features are gone is the reason for a 3 star rating. I use Visio 2003 Pro for general diagramming and for informal data modeling and process modeling in the course of developing system requirements. I used the simple data flow model diagram for years in Visio 2000, but 2003 has removed the "model" capabilities; it's just a picture now with no reusable components. Pluses: Good screen layout options Still reverse-engineers databases Better shape manipulation Shape transparency Minuses: Removed "explorer" and modeling capabilities of Data Flow Model diagram Does not generate DDL (Data Definition Language) anymore (need Visual Studio) No longer exports to ERWin ERX files Does not save to Visio 5 format (only 2002) Removed Auto-Discovery Removed a bunch of file converters and import tools I recommend looking at Microsoft's "What you won't find in Microsoft Office Visio 2003" found at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010857571033.aspx. 5 stars (Does everything but tie your shoelaces for you) - I was able to turn out a complicated flowchart polished enough for professional training purposes in just two hours - despite having never used this kind of software before, and having no assistance whatsoever besides the program's own Help files. 5 stars (Another Apple Home Run) - Apple has been releasing great applications for consumers in the past few years with the iLife suite. With iWork, Apple has refocused their efforts on mainstream businesspeople. iWork's word processing program, called Pages, has an interface reminicient of MacWrite Pro, a program that was easy to use yet powerful. However, this program offers much more than MacWrite Pro. It has many great built in templates and is great for desktop publishing as well as simple letter writing. Easier to use than Word, it has nearly as much power in the document department. For publishing, though, this one beats Word in every respect, and is a great alternative for those who don't want to deal with a high end publishing program such as Quark XPress. Like iMovie, professional results can be produced with consumer software. Keynote is far superior to PowerPoint. The PowerPoint templates have been around since 1997 or so, and are starting to get old and boring. Since nobody wants to use hackneyed slides, Keynote offers completely new templates. Like the iLife templates they are very well thought out. QuickTime integration is a real plus. The program itself is easy to use and can be used as a basic drawing program in some respects. This suite is gradually replacing AppleWorks 6, which has not been updated since 2001 and can trace its roots back to ClarisWorks, which debuted in 1991. AppleWorks isn't much more powerful than the original ClarisWorks and is definitely showing its age. The only module that this does not have is a spreadsheet. If you're looking for an Excel replacement here, you're out of luck. Fortunately the Mac version of Excel is quite good. AppleWorks has a spreadsheet but the interface is somewhat old-fashioned. 5 stars (Fast, Easy and well worth the money!!!) - Setup is a snap. I put the CD in, and when I tried it out the first time it asked me some basic info about the company and I had custom designed invoices and estimates within minutes. It also has contact lists for your customers, and vendors. You can even save your invoices as a PDF file if you want to email it to your customers. I can't believe how easy this is. A friend of mine baught a different program that cost over $200 that does about the same thing and this one is easier!!!! 5 stars (Easy to use and and has great choices) - I am familiar with the Greeting card factory delux and since I was familiar with the layout it was very easy to learn the Business Card Factory Delux program because it has virtually the same user interface which works very nice. It only took me a few minutes to have some professional business cards printed up. Great program 5 stars (It does the job) - I got tired of having tons of unused business cards with outdated info and I've decided to try making my own cards when it's needed. I bought this program and some Avery CleanEdge paper and installed it on my laptop. What was my impression? Well, it was easy as promised. Of course, many of their 4000+ design samples were not very impressive, but I found something very close to what I was looking for and customization took just a few minutes. When I entered my Avery paper code, it picked picked it up and printed just perfectly, the cards came out looking really good. So it does it's job and I've got what I've been promised in a very quick time. I can't say anything bad about this software, so I gave 5 stars. But I want to give you a little warning. if you're technically savvy and not going to use really advanced features like matching envelopes, blanks etc, then you can probably get the same thing done in regular Microsoft Word. It will take a little bit longer, but it's pretty much the same standard document editor with some clip art collection. So before you buy make sure you understand clearly what you want to get and it's really beyond what you can do with your favorite text editor. ...
