5 stars (Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease Review) - This book is very well formated. It goes indepth to help the reader comprehend and retain the thorough information presented in a logical, organized manner. An added bonus is the CD that comes with this text that is also presented well and helps the reader see, by photos, exactly what has been covered. Having access to the on-line version enables the owner of this book to view the information from anywhere. I highly recommend this book. 3 stars (Good reference book, not a teaching one.) - This review is for the previous two editions. Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease is widely used in medical school as an introduction to the field of pathology. The book is well referenced and very detailed, and there lies some of its weakness. As a reference book it does not get any better, however the writing style rambles around an issue and leaves you with a feeling that you just do not know what you read. Pathology, for being a science, is fairly weak. The description of a disease is sometimes based on multiple facts which we do not understand as a whole. For example headaches are decribed in multiple categories, but the tratment for all of them is in most cases unknown. What works for one person does not work for another. Robbins gives you all the details, but in many cases fails to teach you the scientific pathophysiology of a disease. For example, instead of giving you a concise picture of each disease (ie asthma) it tells you about the HLA associations, and many other random details that have no bearing in patient treatment. Again, as a reference book is excellent. For learning the hard real meat of each disease, stick to Harrison's Internal Medicine and your basic science books. 5 stars (THE path book for ppl who don't mess around!) - If your pathology lecture handouts look like this: "toxoplasma - immunocompromised host - cardiac transplant" and you are thinking, "What causes what? Abnormal Psychology - An Integrative Approach with CD-ROM and InfoTrac

5 stars (Cheaper Paperback book) - The book was very reliable (and cheaper) than what I could have bought at the bookstore. So far, the book is working well and I have no doubts. 5 stars (DSM-IV explained (maybe).) - Using DSM-IV criteria throughout, the authors manage to provide a succinct analysis of psychopathology, as seen from a transtheoretical perspective. The research alone quoted throughout makes this book a valuable resource, but combined with an engaging writing style and top-notch structure, it promises to secure Barlow and Durand's position as authors-to-beat when it comes to the field of Abnormal Psychology. 5 stars (Great Introductory book) - Very thorough treatment of the subject from well rounded, expert authors. Text assumes no previous knowledge, and is quite lengthy because of its comprehensive nature. I have used it many times as a reference text after taking a course in which it was required. Also this text is an example of a beautiful job of "book making". The text has many color plates -- and a high quality printing job. ...

Abnormal Psychology- Fourth Edition

3 stars (Adequate treatment of mental disorders, but lacks depth) - This text provides interesting descriptions of mental disorders. However, it often gives only a fleeting consideration of etiological factors, focusing instead on the regurgitation of the DSM criteria of such disorders. In other words, the text is oriented towards diagnostic criteria rather than theory and etiology. The authors attempt to justify this approach by repeatedly claiming that "little is known about the causes many of the disorders categorized by the DSM". Epistemological limitations aside, however, it seems that the authors would have done well to spend more time addressing hypotheses and theories of etiology, rather than repeatedly elaborating upon the self-explanatory DSM criteria. ...

The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists- Coping with the One-Way Relationship in Work- Love- and Fami

5 stars (Light in the Darkness) - This overview of the dynamics between a "Narcissist" and a "Co" is validating to the confused "Co" who is invalidated and used only to be made wrong when he/she speaks up. The decriptions of the parts each one plays in the inevitable destruction is laid out in clear and concise tables. The fine-tuning of the difference between an "Overt" and a "Covert" Narc. is extremely helpful. Looking at 2 sides of the same "animal" makes it easier to respond and move into growth and health. I am greatly helped in my very long process of learning to love myself as I love my "Narcissists" in a way that is truely loving--to both and all in our lives. I have helped to create and maintain the monster. I have a sense of self that I must grow into too or I am a dependant who "uses" another to define and shape my life! This book hits the "spot! 5 stars (Gripping) - A powerfully realistic perspective of the many tragedies that result from narcisssim. This is a straight forward read that uses a variety of narritives to explain the spell binding nature of this syndrome. The authors objective informative approach to this subject makes this a must read for anyone who has been affected by this subject. 5 stars (Mirror Be Gone) - I read "The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists" after recognizing way too much of myself in the book "My Fractured Life". While it's a brilliant book, I'm not sure I would want people to see me like that and I'm afraid that they do - because I have been guilty of that because of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. "The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists" puts a lot in perspective for me and is helping me realize and hopefully change a lot. I'd rather enjoy "My Fractured Life" as an entertained reader than as an active participant looking in the mirror. ...

5 stars (Great Book for a great price) - I received my order fairly quickly and the book was great. I would definately order from them again. 5 stars (The Standard by Which Others are Compared) - It's difficult to write a review of this book because most of the people who are even thinking of buying it have probably used it already. They have seen it in the library, their professors have shown it to them, or it is required for the course they are taking. So what I am going to do is talk about the differences and updates in this the sixth edition. 1. Icons - Locator Icons are used to allow the reader to quickly locate each important concept within the chapter. 2. Clinical Controversies -- showing that the understansing of drugs isn't perfect, but evolving. 3. Documentation to improve billing and general communications. 4. A chapter on Solid-Organ Transplantation. 5. Expanded coverage of dermatological conditions: Acne Vulgaris, Psoriasis, Atopic Dermatitis. 6. New chapter on dermatologic drug reactions. Finally the on-line web site devoted to this publication is greatly expanded and enlarged. 5 stars (Best Textbook for Pharmacotherapy) - The 2005 edition of Pharmacotherapy is one of the best investments I have ever made. It is a valuable tool in mentoring, teaching and precepting pharmacy students. I use the helpful chapter objectives to zero in on key concepts and learning objectives. At the end of each chapter there are short, well-written quiz questions that serve to reinforce important information. The companion website is well structured and easy to navigate. The icing on the cake is the ability to download an e-version of the text on my computer, allowing convenient access to the text at work. (Each textbook has a code and directions good for one down-load). All in all, this is an excellent resource that would be a great reference text for anyone practicing, teaching or studying the profession of pharmacy. ...
