4 stars (Another small set of improvements) - Of late I have been skipping years between Mac Quicken upgrades, and even doing that, find relatively little changed each time. Perhaps that is why Intuit is happy to force stragglers forward by restricting online banking features to recent releases (although as software developer myself, I do understand the support and maintenance arguments as well). The 2006 release continues in this vein, but I do feel it was a worthwhile investment on its own merits. My credit union has paid the "Mac tax" Intuit requires in order for their online banking features to interoperate with Quicken, so I am lucky enough to be able to use them. And they work very well. The one-step-update and downloaded transaction windows look nicer and are more responsive compared to the 2004 version, and have some useful new features. For example, the downloaded transactions window's dropdown menu for choosing an online account now provides a visual indication of which accounts contain new transactions. This saves a lot of time in conjunction with one-step updates. The new flexibility in scheduling calendar-based transactions is useful too. There were things (like my direct-deposit paychecks) which previously couldn't automatically be assigned the right dates. Now they can, and it was easy to fix them. I'm less impressed with the much hyped "backup to .Mac" feature, however. It's perhaps helpful for people who lack a backup strategy for all their important documents (such as the Backup program which comes with .Mac), but it pales by comparison with what it could and should be: Quicken should take advantage of the Sync Services offered by Tiger and .Mac to let you synchronize your Quicken accounts between multiple computers. I should not have to care whether I'm on my PowerBook at work or my PowerMac at home; transactions I enter in either place should appear on the other. Instead, I can only run Quicken at home and sync with Pocket Quicken on my Treo. ... 5 stars (MS Small Business) - I'm not a MS fan, but this is a great package for a small business owner who is interested in contact managment and sales as well as document and presentation work. 5 stars (Love it... But one HUGE problem...) - Howdy, I just wanted to share one BIG problem I've encountered. The "Business Contact Manager" (comes on a seperate disk) is NOT compatable with ANY version of "Intellisync". So, If you use a Palm device, you will not be able to use the Business Contact Manager and be able to sync your Palm on the same computer. Just wanted to give everyone a fair warning... 1 stars (MICROSOFT - TERRIBLE SUPPORT) - I made a terrible mistake in purchasing this upgrade. Having spent a total of 14 hours on phone with Microsoft Technical Support they were unable to get my PC to accept the upgrade. Microsoft grudgingly admitted they have a lot of glitches with Office 2003 and they plan to ship a revision on February, 28 2004. Meantime, Microsoft refused to issue a refund or offer any type of amicable solution. My battle with the 6,000 lb gorilla continues. ... 5 stars (A great source of information for the independent.) - The information is very useful, just the e-book information itself is extremely valuable. The other "reviewer" said that he did not find it useful, and that there was no flexibitliy. However, I disagree, you can make any information as flexible as you choose by simply "exporting" the data. Many forms here, give you all the legal basics that I simply could not find on line (that is without having to pay for it). There is very little information that you can actually obtain for free anymore, and if you find it, you've probably invested hours upon hours of time that could be better spent running your business. I'm thrilled with my Legal Business Pro, now I can do all the work myself, and finetune it as I see fit (by simply exporting the finished document). And for a business owner that does business in several states, it has you covered, as you simply select which state(s) and it extracts the information relevant to you needs. A great resource, for those who would rather do their own work than shell out cash every time they need a simple legal form drafted. 5 stars (The best software product for small business !) - This is a great software product for small business owners. It has dozens of forms, sample letters, and worksheets to help with forming a business, hiring employees, borrowing and lending money, leasing space, etc. In addition to the forms, it includes the full text of five Nolo books: Legal Guide for Starting & Running a Small Business, Tax Savvy for Small Business, Everyday Employment Law, Marketing Without Advertising, and Leasing Space for Your Small Business. The books alone make this an amazing deal. Given Nolo's reputation for plain English self-help materials, this is a must-have for any business owner's computer. The peace of mind in being able to look up basic legal, human resources, and tax questions has made this an excellent purchase for me. 1 stars (Not Very Useful) - I th... 1 stars (ACT! 2005...Gone BAD!) - Act has been a constant software companion for me since the 2.0 version with miles and miles of my most sacred business data. I always upgraded the product as soon as the new versions came out and for the most part was always happy with the new releases. But when ACT! 2005 came out I heard some bad stories from inital reviews so I waited....then an update for 2005 came out to correct many of the issues the original release exhibited. So I finally decided to upgrade, convert my old data over and expected to have a pleasant experiece with the latest features and supposedly speed that SQL use was to provide. WRONG! After working with my data for awhile I noticed the database was SLOW, I was missing fields, notes, history, etc. but not for all of my contacts, it seems interspersed throughout my database. In using the layout designer tool it has hosed up my layouts so bad that some fields do not even show up in the Layout Designer but in the Contact View are way over to one side. This has cost me many hours of work trying to get my ACT! 2005 to function properly out of the box. Do not buy this product, it is a waste of your money and will waste your time, especially if you used previous versions of ACT! and will frustrate the heck out of Advanced ACT! user. I am going back to ACT! 6.0, atleast there is support for it for a few more years and give me time to look at other products in the market place. 4 stars (What is going on?) - I first began to work with ACT! in 1987 when the original founders of Contact Software showed up in my office and presented their ACT! software to me for testing. At the time I was a partner with a Big 8 accounting firm working with startup technology companies. I thought enough of the software and the company to leave the world of public accounting and join the company as their president and CEO for a short time to get them focused and funded. Since that time, I have used ACT! as an executive sear... 1 stars (Simply not usable from a scanning perspective.) - As one reader suggested: revert back to v8! I bought a Brother MFC that inlcuded PaperPort 8, because I wanted to utilise the ADF to get my documents onto disks, rather than floating around in the office. The software was a charm. Just put the documents into the ADF of the MFC, press Scan to file, and off it goes. I can't recall for what reason I upgraded to v9, but this was the end of being able to use the "Scan to File" function. I bought a new PC running XP. Installed v9, and had the same problem: no "Scan to file" functionality. I installed XP SP2 and the frustration kicked in. Now the software did not even work. ScanSoft advised on their web site that v10 would be required to run on XP SP2. I bought it, and guess what: scanning would not work properly. 1. "Scan to file" still does not work! 2. Scanning multiple documents does not work at all, no matter which way it is being intitiated, or whether PaperPort of SmartScan is being used. v9 and v10 are not worth the money, let alone the time wasted Google-ing around to find answers to the problem, with ScanSoft simply not carying at all. Their suggested fix of enabling Data Execution Prevention (except for PaperPort) did not make a difference!! Buy something else! I will see how how I go with v8. But v10 will be uninstalled! Buyer beware! There is much harsher critique out there... and I agree: ScanSoft does not deserve my business! 2 stars (Back to Paperport 9) - I'm a huge fan of Paperport 9; I use it extensively. I was excited to see an upgrade and recently installed PaperPort 10. While the split screen and other features are a nice improvement, the software seems very buggy. The biggest problem for me is that I can no longer scan multiple page items using an HP OfficeJet scanner. I spoke with their technical support about this issue and was informed that "PaperPort 10 is not as good as PaperPort 9 at scanning and stuff." These were the exact... 3 stars (Decent software, but not worth the cash) - Microsoft has, as always, produced decent software. It is nothing to get excited over, but it does its job. The problem with this software, as with all other Microsoft software, is that it is so overpriced. If it is your company buying or something, then go ahead and get it, the software works well, and it does its job as well as anything else you're going to find, not to mention that since most other people use Microsoft products, your documents will be compatible. But if you are buying for yourself, I strongly suggest you look into something else. There are numerous open source programs available on the internet, as well as other commercial programs that can be bought for less money that will work just as well. As for the other programs (money, encarta, picture it, streets & trips), they are also not that great. Why buy an expensive Microsoft encarta when you have Wikipedia? Why buy streets and trips when you have MapQuest and Google Earth? Why buy Money when you can get other programs that are just as good if not better either cheap or free? The choice is up to you 3 stars (Dont think I'll like it as much..........) - as my old Works Suite 2002. I tried installing the 2002 suite on my new computer. Kept getting an error message about not being able to display the EULA agreement for me to accept, and thus wont install the Works Task launcher. I tried all the "fixes" but it just wouldnt install, so, I bought the Works Suite 2005 from Amazon. Well, I got an error message after I installed it. This time about not being able to run it on Windows 95, 98 and 2000. Well, I'm using XP Pro. Long story short, I just right clicked on TASK LAUNCHER, THEN COMPATIBILITY, THEN UNCHECKED THE COMPATIBILITY MODE BOX, and the program started up. I also had to uninstall Office 2003, which uses Word 2003 because Works Suite 2005 uses Word 2002. This was on the advice of Microsoft Tech support. I was shocked to find ... 1 stars (Amazon does not have a 0 star rating.) - I have used Quicken & Quickbooks products since the early 90's. I have purchased several add on products during that time. Quicken & Quickbooks started out as great products but have declined greatly in the last few years. They also offer extra cost products on many of their "upgrades" which were included in earlier products for free. Customer Manager is a different issue. I started out with version 1. Description on box seemed to offer a usefull product. However, the program was so limited that it made more work than it eliminated. Like a fool I bought V2 when it came out because the concept seemed good & many improvements were promised. I was wrong. It has more bugs, hardly any real improvements than V1. The feature for sending e-mails is worse than useless. It takes several steps to put it into history and often doesn't work at all. You can see from all the other reviews that there are lots of other issues as well. I have experienced them as well. 1 stars (Do not buy!) - The price is good, but I guess you get what you pay for. It works fine for a while then it screws up and you can't use it anymore. You click on it and it gives you this garbage and it won't open. I had to uninstall and reinstall. Inuit was helpful, but it didn't solve the problem. I don't understand how a big company can make such crap. We have no problems with quickbooks, but customer manager is just a waste of our time and computer space. 1 stars (TOO SLOW, TOO MANY BUGS!) - This is, on paper, an excellent idea and has lots of potential. Unfortunately, it SLOOOOOWS your system down to a crawl -- which is frustrating to the point where I don't want to use the product. As I said, its a great idea for me. I have been searching for a product that could help me track my many projects without the overkill of a MS Project. It also has many annoying bugs that need to be addressed. The program has great potential and if it worked as it claims I wou...
