4 stars (Very good instructions and practice exercises!) - Very good resource, it helped me to review for my entrance exams (Educational Psychology doctoral program). I passed them both. Be careful, though, this author doesn't use SUMMATION NOTATION. Make sure you learn that somewhere else if you're going into upper level courses. 5 stars (Gravetter's Statistics book) - This is one of the clearest books on introductory Statistics that I have read. Extremely logically written in a straight forward style. If you can't grasp Statistics using this book...try a different pursuit in college. Every concept is precisely explained and one subject builds upon the next. Gravetter provides one example after another in an attempt to hammer the concepts home...and a successful one I might add. This book also provides a solid foundation for the 1st half of an advanced, Stats II course. 5 stars (This book has saved my life) - I am about half way through this book and I actually understand, maybe even a bit excited about statistics. This book is definetly the best math/statisics textbook I have ever used. If you have hidden in fear from math but want to go to grad school, pick up a copy of this and you will not regret it. ... 5 stars (Detailed and well illustrated resource) - Very detailed resource and well illustrated, the book has answered a multitude of questions I had about coordination, muscle conditioning and anatomy. It is a must for dance instructors. The book is very well organized and researched. Excellent! 5 stars (Excellent review of ... ligaments!) - In all of my materials as a massage therapist, none of them covered ligaments functions, names and locations as well as this one! Beautiful illustrations and it's a book that makes you get up and move every few minutes as you're reading! 5 stars (Excellent introduction to anatomy and kinesiology) - As other reviewers have said, this is an excellent introduction to anatomy and kinesiology. The book strikes the perfect balance between clinical detail and practical knowledge for body-workers, athletes and dancers. We have copies of several pages up on the wall at my Pilates studio which get referred to often. All the major skeletal muscle groups of the limbs and torso are covered. It is not a disection manual. It is organized for students of movement. Of particular value is the section on the work of the psoas and the "psoas paradox" that is somewhat controversial. To get more in depth, one text I can recommend for the dancer/Pilates instructor is "Dance Kinesiology" by Sally Sevey Fitt. ... 5 stars (Get the book!) - It will change your life, if you let it. It changed mine, and continues to do so. 5 stars (A Course in Miracles) - A great book that goes into great depth of explanation about life and the biblical meanings in life. 5 stars (No Matter What Your Path This Book Can Only Bring You Inner Peace ) - This is a three volume edition that comprises of the Text, Workbook for Students and Manual for Teachers. I must say that the teachings and messages are beyond profound, where there is so much truth that leads to inner peace. There might be a few lines that seem different, and it is great to question them and then read further to gain a deeper understanding. This book goes beyond religion. It is all of our divine birthright to our connection to God, Holy Spirit, where there is unfailing guidance at every moment of life. This book teaches this to you. It teaches the true meaning of forgiveness, how when we see each other as extensions of our self, we see the oneness we all share, and our divinity as equal spiritual beings at the same time. This text can lead to the end of all wars and suffering, because truth is revealed so simply. It is always the simplest truths that once understood lead to peace on all levels and in all areas of life. If some of the text feels different to what you have been taught, that is okay. Take all of the good that it has to offer and incorporate that into your understanding, so that light can truly dispel any seeming darkness in your mind that has caused you any anxiety, suffering or pain. This book is nothing short of a gift to humanity. I am going to quote from the preface of the book, so you can know "How It Came": "A Course in Miracles began with the sudden decision of two people to join a common goal. Their names were Helen Schucman and William Thetford, Professors of medical Psychology at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. It does not matter who they were, except that t... 1 stars (review of gateways to physchology ordering process) - I have not received my book yet. It has almost been a month. I have e-mailed the seller several times but she always seems to have a reason why I haven't recieved it. I e-mailed her 2 days ago with a request to refund my money but she said that it should have been shipped by now, that it was at her parents house. At this point, I am very dissatisfied with this particular service. I must also add that I ordered app. 10 books via your service and had no problems at all. 5 stars (Intro. to Psychology Text) - Excellent description of text. 5 stars (Wow! Clear, Concise, Excellent Book) - Having seriously struggled for the last two years with the statistics side of my Psychology studies, this book has really made things so much clearer. An excellent book for anyone struggling to grasp the basic statistical concepts required in behavioral sciences. 5 stars (One of the Best Intro to Stats Texts) - Having taken statistics before, I know a good book when I see one. This is hands down, one of the best intro to stats book. Unlike other stats textbooks, Essentials gives you the information in a concise manner accompanied by varied step-by-step examples towards understanding all the statistical tests. Psychology students have it lucky to have a book like this. 5 stars (Understandable Statistics at Last!) - This is the first statistics textbook that I have actually understood and enjoyed, and I have read many of them. The authors take students through the material step by step and do not make assumptions about prior knowledge. The charts and examples are very helpful and clearly presented. As textbooks go, this is the best! ... 5 stars (Good book!) - really useful if you are a backyard tinkerer and if not this is a cool little bedside book to browse through 5 stars (Perfect book for inventors and makers) - This is a dictionary for basic mechanical engineering. Schools have ruined physics and engineering by drowning the core material in math. This book is a simple "I need this motion to cause that motion handbook." If you are familiar with Arthur Ganson's sculpture, you will find many of the common joints he uses in this book. [...] I'm in electronics, and I needed a little bit of help with gears and adapting motion from motors, and this book is perfect. If you need to calculate torque or really get into the math of things get a textbook (or a real mechanical engineer). But if you like to tinker this book will open up your imagination to many different solutions. For the price you can't beat it. 5 stars (If this doesn't get you thinking....) - ...you must be dead. Simply a gem of a book. I've bought modern copies on two separate occasions to make sure I have it on hand, and I recently was lucky enough to find an 1879 copy. Apparently it was published in 1868, and by 1879 it was already into its 12th printing- couldn't happen unless a lot of people found it really useful. Buy a copy- you definitely won't regret it. ... 5 stars (Compelling, Alarming, and Promising) - "...The urgent message from Mother Earth and the archetypal feminine is to gather the women and save the world, because leaving it up to the men is going badly, and will be catastrophic. The premise on which men rule the world is religion, with monotheism the form of religion that is bringing us to the brink." - From the book According to author Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D., the legacy of patriarchal history is competition, domination and control. Patriarchal religions such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam are hierarchical in nature, sanctioning war against each other and claiming divine superiority and favoritism. Patriarchy revels in the humiliation of enemies and amassing bigger and badder toys-nuclear missiles being the epitome-while women, children, and the planet suffer from male egos run wild. Bolen, a psychiatrist and Jungian analyst, steps into the role of mother bear in her newest book Urgent Messages from Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World-declaring, "Enough is enough!" Invoking the archetypes of Mother and sister/Artemis, Bolen rings the alarm bell as Earth heads towards certain disaster. Unless women rise up, empower others, and lend their voice, she asserts, the vulnerable will continue to pay the price for patriarchal values. Citing numerous sociological and psychological studies, Bolen shows how-in general-women and men think, behave, and communicate quite differently. For example, stress triggers the "flight or fight" response in men, resulting in isolation and aggression. Women, however, react to stressful conditions with a "tend and befriend" response. Females seek social contact and support, as well as protect and nurture their young. Adrenaline and testosterone promote the "flight or fight" response, while estrogen and oxytocin promotes calm, relaxation, and maternal feelings. Because of hormonal differences, most women find it stress reducing to admit a mistake or discuss a problem. ...
