4 stars (6-Day Body Makeover) - This diet works! Preparing the food takes a bit of time but is well worth it 5 stars (IT WORKS!!!!!) - I followed the plan with some slight modifications (flavored water) and lost 7 pounds in 6 days! More importantly though was that I learned how to eat healthy and control my portion sizes! I have been sticking to the plan for 2 weeks now and feel the best I have felt in a long time. I even sleep better since I started this plan. The plan works!!!! I tried to eat some junky greasy food last night (yes I cheated) and it made me sick. I don't even want that type of food anymore! Try the plan you will be very glad you did! 5 stars (It works but it is hard) - This diet works but it is way difficult to stick to. It is especially difficult if you have kids. I bought this as a way to see if I wanted to by the 6-week body makeover. I decided not to and went back on Atkins to keep my weight loss going. If you are just starting a weight loss program, I recommend this as a good diet to jumpstart with, because it works fast, teaches you to incorporate more vegetables into your diet and to eat more times per day so that you aren't ever hungry. ... 1 stars (This is NOT a one day diet) - First, be prepared, the author makes a lot of statements for the benefit of her own ego. This was a turn off and detracted from the message. Now about the diet: if you want to get technical, yes the detox takes only one day. The problem is that you have to prepare yourself for the detox over a seven day period by following a very difficult diet. My guess is that if you follow the diet, you will get the results you want, but I gave this one a low rating because of the author's style and the misleading title. 4 stars (great detox diet) - The One day detox diet is a terrific way to flush toxins, lose weight and improve eating habits. A little redundant at times. 4 stars (I lost 3 1/2 pounds!) - I featured the Fast Track in Nutrition News for August. I did the 11 days myself and had enough space in the newsletter to share a little of my excellent experience with my readers. The Miracle Juice made the fasting day easy for me. However, during the other days, my saving grace was flax crackers. Just flax seed, salt and water. They were tasty, low calorie, filling, and satisfying. The book is a treat. Without even reading it, I got right away that Ann Louise was using weight loss as the "carrot". Everybody who lives those 11 fast track days gets to experience what it feels like to be healthy. Plus Ann Louise gives the public more health gifts -- the importance of detox even to the thin, the dangers of imprudent fasting, and and the connection between stubborn weight and a toxic body. Ann Louise really is the "Detox Diva"! In good health, Siri Khalsa, author, Nutrition News ... 5 stars (Readable, in-depth discussion of nutrition and metabolism.) - Currently, many people are becoming seriously interested in the role of nutrition in human health. Fortunately, there are many good books on nutrition and health for the interested lay person. But once one begins to understand the extreme importance of nutrition for achieving and maintaining good health where can a seriously interested lay person turn for more detailed information? The answer is to this book. Yes, this book requires some serious study, but it is quite well written and does not require a degree in chemistry or biology to follow. A dilligent lay person can gain much valuable information from it. If you are really serious about understanding the role of nutrition in human health I highly recommend this book. 5 stars (The best advanced nutrition book I know.) - If you want (or need) to go deep into nutrition, this is the book. Very well organized and researched information. Covers in depth nutritional physiology and biochemistry. I used this book in an advanced undergraduate nutrition course and I consider it one of my prized possessions. If there is a better book on the subject, I would like to know about it. 5 stars (Best biochemical nutrition textbook!) - I am a graduate student who majors in Nutrition. This is a best biochemical nutrition textbook I ever read! What I like about this textbook is: (1) relatively light weight (575 pages) for this type of textbook, yet very comprehensive. It contains from basic physiology and biochemistry to a current field such as antioxidant nutrition; (2) a large amount of well summarized figures (almost every page has al least one figure); (3) plain English; (4) each chapter concludes with annotated bibliography so that you could use this book as a sort of literature review on a specific field; (5) well-made index, so that you could use this as a sort of encyclopedia of nutrition. Title says "advanced", but I recommend this book to undergraduate... 4 stars (Good step forward) - I'm not finished reading yet, but I've learned some very important information to helop me get and keep my blood sugar levels in a normal and safe range. 4 stars ( Dr RIchard Bernsteins Completre Guide to Normal Blood Sugars ) - I found this book to be valuable ifor the resources, which is in and of itself extremely important, and his common sense approach, which is necessary to keep from the worn out phrase "leading authority", goodness knows we have too many of those these days, and it ends up a work of art and refeshing in it's honest approach. Do this and this is the rusult you will arrive at. TRUE. As for me he is a hero, however I simply cannot live on 25 carbs a day. MADELINE B OGLE PhD 5 stars (A LIFESAVER-IF YOU'RE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH ) - Like others who have reviewed the book, I had very poor blood sugar control on the ADA diet. I hit rock bottom in 2004 when I suffered several weeks of blindness, and was unable to work. I have now lost about forty pounds, and have average blood sugar readings in the 120 range. Previously, my average would have been at least one hundred points higher. When I get off the diet, my blood sugar goes right back into the two and three hundred range instantly. I have had improvement in symptoms. For example, the feeling in my extermities is much better. For the present, my diabetic retinopathy has stabilized, which I pray will continue. I do not find the diet change to be much of a sacrifice. That might be because I experienced the horror of having the disease completely take over my life. It can be inconvenient to eat out, but with a little creativity, I have a diverse and appealing menu. I have not been to Dr. Bernstein's clinic, but hope to go eventually. I recommend the book to any diabetic I meet, and consider it the principle reason for the improvement in my health. ...
