1 stars (buy the book, forget the CD-ROM version) - I've got the book and was hoping the CD-ROM would enhance using the book, but it doesn't. The content is very slim compared to the book, and the CAD drawings that are included are also of very limited use. Don't bother with the CD-ROM version of TSSLA. 5 stars (This book is a must!!!!) - A great book to have. It was a required text for my site technology classes. Kept referring to it. Lots of information. It should be on everyone's bookcase if you're a Landscape Architect student or already in the profession. 3 stars (Offer some alternatives please....) - Just a note to 'john of a world class architectual firm'. Good to read an honest critique. I agree to a certain point. Yet as a student of landscape architecture, I am always on the lookout for quaility publications and learning tools. What publications have you read or currently refer to in your practice? Any help is good help in my opinion... Thanks jasonandanna@slingshot.co.nz 3 stars (The reviews below are for the OLD edition.) - I agree with the reviewers below that the older edition (1987) has very outdated graphics. However, in trying to find out if this newer edition (2002) is improved, I was unable to do so since there are no reviewers of this edition. I do not understand why Amazon transferred the reviews from the old edition to this newer one. (Note that reviews below are dated before the 2002 publication date of this edition.) If anyone knows if this edition is improved (or not), please post a review! Thanks. 4 stars (Landscape Designer) - This book is used as a text book at several univerities and Community colleges. It is a basic text that alows a student to learn to draw graphics and symbols. The excersize in the back of the book are very helpful when first learning to draft graphics. It does not address computer graphics. If you want to produce those kinds of plans it is best to take a course in computer graphics. When first learning to draw graphics one has to start somewhere. This book does a great job! ...

Site Engineering for Landscape Architects

4 stars (Great Site Design Reference) - I was a bit tentative when I started to use this text. The book has some minor editing problems, but if your desire is to really understand site design with an emphasis on drainage and grading plan design this text does the trick and does it well. I would recommend this book to any Jr. land development designer/engineer as a must have reference. 5 stars (Great reference book!) - This is a great book to have on your shelf. Kept referring to it for my Site Technology classes and I know I'll be referring to it in the future. I found it very helpful and clearly written. Would highly recommend it. 2 stars (Thorough but Poorly Organized) - Puchased this text to help review for the LARE exam. The text has all of the necessary information but is not layed out well. Illustrations are not located on pages where they are referenced in the text making it so that you have to flip back and forth across several pages to understand the text in relation to the examples. The larger problem with the book is that the answers to Exercises are not given. You will have no way to determine if you are completing the problems correctly or not. The only way to find out will be to have them reviewed by another Landscape Architect or Engineer. The text functions well as a reference for Landscape Architects to review formulas or storm water calculation techniques but if you are trying to use it for developing skills or for exam preperation I would not recommend it. ...

Landscape Architecture- A Manual of Site Planning and Design

3 stars (not a reference book) - Good photos but not so pleasure to read it. It covers whole range of landscape architectural topic. It give you the whole picture of this field. If you want to know what't the field about, you may buy it since there are not so many selections for you. However, the text is very dry. 5 stars (Wise and wonderful!) - I was surprised to see the two prior comments and suspect that they were not written by anyone in the landscape architecture field. This book has been the classic introductory text since the 1960s. As a text, it does not purport to be a definitive reference but rather to acquaint the student and layperson with the breadth of landscape architecture. It is not at all focused on the surface alone--Simonds has been one of the pioneers of sustainable ecological design, and the book proves it, covering, among other topics, natural water systems, native plants, greenways, and climate. As Simonds states, "The work of the landscape architect...is to help bring people...into harmonious relationship with the living earth--with the 'want to be' of the land." This book points us in the right direction! 1 stars (Save your money) - A good example of why you would go to the library or bookstore and see if the book was any good, prior to purchasing. Specifically, author hits a wide range of topics and delves into little. The book lacks summaries and lacks a general direction. Some nice photos, which probably resulted in the excessive price. Save your money. ...
