Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus - Video Editing Software

5 stars (Excellent - as long as you have a reasonably recent PC) - I've been using Pinnacle for a couple years. This software is outstanding. Extremely powerful, yet reasonably intuitive to use. After learning a few basics, you're off and running to create powerful effects -- from corporate videos to very cool home videos. Good points: - Imports video nicely from dv camera - Breaks video up into scenes automatically for you - Easy drag, drop, cut, etc. to get just what you want into the timeline - Easy to modify the volume on the soundtrack and to add a music track and/or voiceover - Very powerful transitions -- the cool things you insert between segments of the video to make people say "wow, cool, how'd you do that"... you just drop them between scenes in your timeline and it does the rest - Preview without rendering time - If you want to dig deeper, you can -- title tools, transition effects can be highly customized, panning photos, etc. Drawbacks: - It's not a super high end product at this price -- there's only a couple audio tracks for instance. - I've had trouble with it on older hardware (more than a couple years). When you have hardware conflicts, it is terrible. It seems to randomly freeze and hang your machine, you lose your work, etc. It's awful. That probably accounts for most of the negative reviews. However, if your hardware will run it you will love this and be a great video editor in no time. 4 stars (Nice product. Off and running in a matter of minutes) - I purchsed Studio Version 9.3.9. Had no problems installing or running on my Dell Desktop or Laptop. Found program easy to use, importing video worked great (wish preview window defaulted to slightly larger size), Moving and trimming clips was easy, splitting clips was easy after viewing help file. Put togtethe 3 video tapes, edited clips and readied for burning DVD in a matter of about 5 hours (2.5 hrs importing and about the same editing/ setting up menu). Would recommend to othe...

PhotoSuite 7 Platinum

1 stars (Horrible) - I was a big fan, starting with MGI PhotoSuite 3, then very happy with version 4. I got version 5, the first one released under Roxio, and it basically had only cosmetic differences from 4. I assumed version 7 would be a nice upgrade, and there was a $15 rebate off the $29.99 price, so I bought it. What a horrible mistake! PS 7 Platinum takes forever to install (~30 minutes!), as if the CD is defective or something. Then, the install says you have to reboot; my Win XP refused to boot again. I had to recovery back. I tried again; again it corrupted the registry. Roxio tech support is unresponsive. So it is basically unusable software. I guess this is one way Roxio can try and force PS users to upgrade to Easy Media Creator. My advice is DO NOT upgrade to 7 if you are an existing PS4 or 5 user. If you don't already have PS, and want a low-end, easy to use photo editing tool, get PS version 4 or 5 as copies of these versions are still available dirt cheap from software liquidator sites (just do a Google on PhotoSuite to find them). 1 stars (Don't buy this) - The software is not that great. I also had a mail in rebate for this software ($15) - The request was recieved on December 12 and I am yet to recieve the rebate. I have bought stuff much later and have got the mail in rebates for those submitted 2 months later. Do not buy any products from Roxio. They suck. 1 stars (Forget About Tech Support) - I believe the PS 5 isa better prodouct than the 7.This version is very cumberson. I got a deal on the Upgrade(?). Had some issues with it, then when I wrote to Tech Support I got back a form e-mail saying thatthey had wrked out all their issues , refered me to a automatic trouble shooter.Did not even cover my area.Now I can't reinstall the PS5. 3D-Album PicturePro Platinum

5 stars (Slick, Extraordinary!) - I downloaded the trial version from the company's website and decided to buy the full version straight away. The interface is different than standard Windows applications', but is clean-cut. I have no diffculty to build several testing albums following the simple steps dispalyed in the first starting page: select photos > select music > select style > change settings > build (save). I also figured out how to edit the saved albums in the My Album list. This is the most inspiring slideshow software I've ever seen. The result is definitely extraordinary. I've been able to create a wedding video using the 3D-Album animation (there are many adds-on for weddings) for the introduction part and the conclution credit at the end. I also created a photo slideshow displayed in a wedding reception. The pastor told me that he's been in many many weddings but this is the best show he's ever seen. A good value for your money. 1 stars (Terrible- Do NOT buy it) - I downloaded a demo version and made a few slideshows. First, it is very difficult to make simple changes. Not a typical interface software for performing simple functions that a normal program would have. There is no bottom for saving, nore a bottom to start new. You have to open a new sub-directory to retrieve pictures to start a new slideshow. And if you delete a set of pictures on the working directory, it actually deletes them from the actual subdirectory. You may have to get back to retrieve them from your recyle ben. It took me a whole day to figure out how to change simple funtions since it really has a bad menu system. The slideshow runs so slow, can't find a place to speed up the show. THey need a 24 online support system since there is no place to find an answer. There is no "find buttom" for the help menu for where or how to change the speed. Punch- Home Design Architectural Series 3000

5 stars (The perfect solution) - Moving into a new house, I had so many projects to make it my own. This product made it all happen. It was easy to start and I had walls drawn and showing in 3D in a few minutes. First, I drew the existing structure. The ability to draw the plan easily and see it in 3D every step of the way made it quite easy. And, I've tried all the competitors. The only product that lets you show the 3D view (with shadows from lights and sun) without grueling waiting and finger tapping is Punch.. its blazing fast. Changing the plan was just as easy! You drag a wall and dimensions display showing you were you are. Move a window or door and you instantly see the results in the 3D view. When I wanted to knock down a dividing wall between the great room and kitchen, it was a couple of mouse clicks and poof, gone. This was huge in determining how open the plan would be and if this part of the remodeling was worth it. When it comes time to landscape, this was way cool. You can customize your yard and its a blast. With a few mouse clicks you can add hills/berms to your yard, I even used the excavation tool and dug a hole for a swimming pool(now if I could just really have it :) The picket fence I added even conformed to the changed landscape. And.. then I added plants. Tons of plants and I even used their tool to select only plants in my area. Then.. to top it off..with a click of the mouse I could grow the entire landscape to see how it would look when the trees grew. As for learning.. you'll love it. You can be drawing in minutes.. but if you need some help there are videos that walk you through how to use each tool. Paint Shop Photo Album 5 Deluxe Old Version

2 stars (Non-Existent technical support) - I replaced my computer and reinstalled PSPA5 deluxe which I'd bought from Amazon last year. I received several error messages during the installation but the program worked. I tried to install the downloaded upgrade but got an error message that my version was not valid. Corel recently bought Jasc so I went to their site and, rather than pay per incident for tech support, I described the problem and asked for help which was free and promised the next business day. After two weeks with no reply. I sent them another e-mail and waited another week with no reply. I then sent them a fax, on the belief that my ISP might be blocking their reply, and asked for a faxed response or snail mail help. NOTHING! Spending real money for PSPA 5 apparently buys you a decent program and being totally ignored by Jasc's new owners, Corel. I gave the program a low rating because I believe that prompt e-mail support is an essential part of the cost of the program. I uninstalled PSPA 5 and will buy nothing new from JASC/COREL. Picasa 2 from Google works well and is free. 3 stars (Decent but could be so much better with attention to details) - Some of the other reviewers have here have spelled out where the program works well so you can consider this the CONS review. 1. The biggest complaint is speed. Opening, editing and building thumbnails are all agonizingly slow. My pictures are stored on a server in my home so there is some understandable delay. But I also use Paint Shop Pro 6 (PSP6) which builds thumbnails faster that I can see them and opens and edits pictures far faster. My wife gets so frustrated with PSPA5s slow speed that she ends up opening and editing in PSP6 and then I loose all EXIF data. Last night added a new folder of about 45 images and it took at least 3 minutes to build all the thumbnails. 2. The next thing is opening folders. PSPA5 calls folders albums. Microsoft Picture It- Premium 10 0 Old Version

5 stars (Better Than Expected) - I decided to go with Picture It 10 based on Consumer Reports on this and other photo editing software. So far it has proven better than I would have expected. Pretty easy to get into and use from scratch. And it has many features new to me and has been easy to learn. Glad I got it. 1 stars (Not near as good as the older versions) - I owned a couple older versions of this program. I bought this becuase my older software wasn't compatible with my new XP operating system. I was very disappointed when I found Microsoft has dropped many of the functions such as artistic edges and text enhancements such as shadows. I loved these features and found they recommended an "upgrade" to the Digital Image Suite. I thoguht I would do this, but I found you can't "upgrade." You have to buy the full version of Digital Image Suite for the full price. Ridiculus! I went ahead and purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements. Adobe Illustrator CS2 Upgrade

5 stars (Better than ever) - I was waiting for CS2 after using the CS. There are too many problems in CS. And I am very happy with CS2 now. The software is a lot easier to use, less problems. I have been using illustrator since illustrator 4. CS2 is definitly better than ever!! 4 stars (Adobe CS2) - Not bad, however, in Version 10, was able to use CNTRL + to zoom in. Used the + on the number pad -- now this function doesn't work, and the only + that works is that in the top row of the keyboard. The zoom out "-" in the number pad still works, but not the plus. So I downloaded the 30 day trial for Illustrator CS2 Upyours, I mean Upgrade. Replacing my old Illustrator 8.01 These kids I've been interviewing made me think I should take a look outside MY CAVE! So I got it loaded up and sure enough; it takes longer to load than my old corrupted rusty buddy; Illustrator 8.01, about twice as long. ( so leave it running ) !!!!!!!!! BUT WOW !!!!!!! SnapStream Beyond TV 3 - TeleVision without Limits

4 stars (Excellent Product - once you get it installed!) - Although it seemed to install OK, I couldn't get it to record for my life. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice. After lots of fooling around with the configuration I finally was able to record! This thing is absolutely great. One of the first things you come to appreciate is the free online TV guide. With the guide I can find my show easily and then tell it to record all new episodes. It then skips old episodes and will even follow the show when it moves from one night to another (i.e. goes from Wednesday night @ 7pm to Thursday @ 8pm). Try that with your VCR! Recordings can take up a ton of disk space - about 2.4 gig per hour. Beyond TV has an option where it will shrink the disk space required after the show completes. You can tell it to do the shrinking during non prime-time so it doesn't interfere with your usual work. Net effect is about 1/4 of the space is needed (.7 gig versus 2.4 gig) and I can't detect any quality difference! 1 stars (beyondtv cant install) - I tried to install this for 2 weeks and can't intall it. The installation wizzard complains that it can't find an internet connection. The tech support could not identify the problem and told me to wait (forever?) until they fine a fix. Apprently, BeyondTV has problems communicating with some ISP's. This is a known problem that Snapstrem didn't disclose. Now I'm stuck with software that will not even install (dell 2.5ghz with 1g memory). My $62 purchase is worthless. The warrenty specifically states that installation problems are not covered. Totally dissatisfied. 5 stars (This product is great) - It is so easy to record your favorate shows. With a product called mpeg-vcr, you can edit commericals out in seconds. Then burn to dvd. Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006

5 stars (An excellent photo editor for beginners) - As a beginner in photo editing, I am frustrated with Adobe Photoshop 3.0. Then I tried to shop around and see what is there. I found this Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 . I bought it, and it worked beautifully. If layer and transparency in Photoshop are difficult, then in Digital Image, it is as easy as turning your palm up and down. I can put my family picture into a different background, and I can set the degree of transparency as I wish. The color editing tools are rich, and you can always and try and if you don't like it, you can undo the color change. I can remove an object from a picture by Smart Erase And if I'm not satisfied, I can do more with blending brush Overall, I am very very satisfied with MDI Suite 2006. It gives me a new hope amidst my frustration with photo editing software. And last but not least, the customer service is free 24 hours a day, and they are competent. Ulead CD - DVD PictureShow 3 Deluxe

5 stars (Great for wedding DVD's) - I purchased the PictureShow 2.0 version and saw some negative comments so I felt compelled to speak up for such a good product. This software is great. I used it to create my own wedding DVD and also a yoga DVD for a friend. Both turned out much better than some professionally created ones I've seen. I think a lot of professional video (artist types) people are using old tools and aren't very computer literate. I have a windows XP PC. Pro's * You can create a professional looking DVD menu with your own image and music in the background. * It also has many template menus to pick from. Very easy to change font's and colors. * This product never crashed or got stuck. Unlike Roxio software. I'll never buy Roxio again. * I had about 600 pictures, 6 categories' (front menu) and used about 20 songs. It handled it no problem. * It has a default transition of fade to black. It looks the most professional. It also had many other transitions to pick from, but honestly who uses checker, swips, up/down fades on TV or movies. It looks amateurish. * You can start or end a song on any picture. It has a total time for each picture, including transition time, so you can start the next song when the other one finishes. May require a calculator for the math challenged. * I never burned directly to DVD because I wanted to make many copies so I created the DVD image on my hard-disk. I then used my crappy Roxio software to burn the DVD. This process works very quickly, as it only takes about 5 minutes to burn the DVD from an already created DVD image. The poor guy in some other review thought he needed a new DVD drive to burn his disk. He didn't, he could have just created a DVD image on his hard-disk and then used ANY software to burn the DVD disk. * The final DVD looks and plays flawlessly.
