1 stars (Rand McNally should have stood in bed. . .) - I don't think a thorough review of this is in order, because YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY IT. While it has some cute features, the main problem is that it DOESN'T KNOW ANY ADDRESSES of anyone I've tried to find. My own house has been here 50 years and the address is not in the program. '1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC' is not there (though 'White House' is). None of my friends' addresses are there. It seldom can even find an intersection ('no match found'). On the other hand, Microsoft Streets & Trips has 90% of the addresses I've asked it to find. Too bad, because the GPS interface on R-M is good and it's exceedingly primitive on Streets & Trips. 4 stars (What program are these people using?) - I am surprised to see the many negative comments on this product. The only issue I have had with it is that my GPS initially did not work properly. This was due to Windows XP recognizing it as a serial pointing device and had nothing to do with the software. I had the same issue with streets and trips. Once I got that ironed out, it has worked perfectly for me. I used it recently to plan a cross country trip and it worked fine. I was able to get back on track a couple of times when I took a wrong turn simply by using the GPS for reference. I see that some complained that you have to be online to use the program but this is not true. You DO need to be online to get current updates on road construction, but this should be done before leaving home where you have internet access anyway, not on the road. I think that perhaps people are expecting a lot from a program that costs less than 50 bucks. Take the tutorials included with the program, plan your trip at home or in the hotel, not on the road and use a little common sense and it will work fine for you. My only complaint would be that there is no option to update the street-level city maps via the internet. 1 stars (Dont Even waste your time with this Software) - Wh... 1 stars (Helpful only in designing boxes with roofs) - This product was a horrible waste of my money. There is no option for log houses, which I find surprising. This is afterall, far from an alternative building style. It seems as though this product was made for those with little or no creaativity, seeking to create another ugly box like all those that already exist all over the nation. Don't waste your money! 3 stars (Lots of work, little reward) - I was very anxious to recieve this product. I reviewed various products and this seemed to be the one to buy for the price. At this point I'm not disappointed I bought it, just disappointed at some of the limitations. I was looking to do basic, accurate floor plans, i.e. kitchens. With this product you're forced to design a house and then focus on a specific room. I live in an area where there are alot of raised houses. A raised foundation/house on piers is not an option. I will say that it has a nice selection of finishes, though many of them look too similar to tell a difference. Overall, it's a decent product and not a bad buy. 3 stars (Limited Capability-Not for remodeling) - When I read the other reviews on this product, I was a bit surprised at their very positive nature. Then I remembered how I felt when I first tried this program and it all made sense. My guess is that the folks who wrote the positive reviews probably haven't worked with the program for very long or tried to create anything but the most elementary structures. I know I was very impressed at first. That is until I tried to re-create my own home as the starting point for a remodeling project. This program is very intuitive and easy to learn, the problem is that it is also very limited. After you get past the ease of creating floor plans, the next obvious progression is to see the building in 3D. That's where the problems begin. The roof planes are nearly impossible to control. If you are creating anything other than a simple cape ... 5 stars (Another Quality Hallmark Program) - I have had Hallmark software for 4 years running now. Falling in line with the others, this version producing great cards for all your family and friends to enjoy. 1 stars (Hallmark Card Studio) - I wrote upon returning the product that both Hallmark and Amazon should be ashamed to send such a poor product. The colors on the card were not good and the software was so faulty. It would print the sayings on top of each other, not centered. I had an earlier product from Microsoft that had beautiful cards and selections that I used for many years but got outdated and would not install. I asked and hopefully have received a complete refund. 5 stars (Easy to Use) - I love how you have everything in the project can be manipulated so easily. When I bought this I was worried that it would be difficult for this 70 year young senior. It produces top quality cards for every special occasion. I find myself making cards for my family and friends just for fun. ... 4 stars (Excellent!) - Although I have not tried the CD version, I have the downloaded version. You just download it and you can work it without using any cd roms or anything. Its such a GREAT program. You get to pick and create your ringtones from any song and at ANYPOINT! Instead of paying $2 for every ringtone and they dont even start it at the point you like it. (IE Cingular and T-Mobile) I found this item the best ringtone maker Ive ever used. But one thing that would make this product better is if we could use a USB cable to import the songs instead of thru text messages and then you wouldnt be using up those. But others wise get this product if you want to customize your own ringtones. UNLIMITED RINGTONES FOR ONLY A ONE TIME PAYMENT OF $20! 1 stars (No support, doesn't work) - The software will load on your PC, however does not connect to their network. No phone or online support. Sent e-mail with no response. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!! 1 stars (Program cannot be OPENED!!!) - This software sucks. After I installed it, and I tried to open it a thousand times... Nothing happened. Then I uninstalled and re-installed this thing, nothing changed. I still cannot open the program. Don't even know how this program looks like. Slow down my computer. This is a must return software. 4 stars (It works with OSX Tiger, but...) - Seller says this doesn't work with Tiger, but it works. All GPS road map doesn't give the shortest route and this is no exception. Mine came bundled with a GPS receiver that I was surprised worked very well. I just wish I can just install US roads without installing Canada and other non-essential that takes up hard drive space and slows down the search. I'm sure Canadians would want the same if they want to use this and not have to install US info unless they want to. Could be made simpler and faster intuitive locate of streets. I don't need every thing that says San Antonio like a bake shop when I am looking for the city map of San Antonio or just a street. 2005 is almost over and I don't see any updates on their website. Overall I would give this a nod if you want to bring your iBook or PB and use it as a GPS road map, otherwise, spend an extra $300 and get a handheld black and white screen GPS. 1 stars (Embarassing) - Route 66 should hang their developer heads in shame for putting this product out. The app seems to be a bare minimum port from its Windows version. The first indication of this is the ugly port of the "help" contents (which are an obvious attempt at mimicking the Windows help system, via a Java applet) UI - No keyboard shortcut to go between zoom in/out and drag. No way to convert GPS coords to decimal, or to search by lat/lon. The UI is a clunky artifact of the mid-90's, if not before. Type in a search and hit return... nothing happens.. you have to click on "Find". Compare and contrast simple navigation to Google Maps! Case closed. Speed - I'm running on a 1.33 ghz PowerBook, with the most recent Route 66 patch. Using 16mb of cache (in the preferences) doesn't help much. This is 2005.. surely you would expect a dedicated app to outperform Google map. Not this one. I am not kidding when I say this is slow. You may say "well, run it on a dual processor G5!"... and I would counter with "I want... 5 stars (how to share an iPod) - An undervalued feature of this software is its ability to let you read and write a Mac formatted iPod in Windows, both through its native XPlay interface and iTunes for Windows. Granted, the extra translation layer (borrowed directly from their MacDrive software) slows the process down a little but the flexibility is well worth it if, like me, you have both Macs and Windows machines. (NB: If you use MacDrive you don't need XPlay to access a Mac-formatted iPod in iTunes for Windows - that capability comes built in.) I don't care for the native XPlay interface personally: why make something look and act like Windows Explorer when Explorer is only marginally functional? but more importantly, XPlay doesn't support Smart Playlists, to which I am addicted. I use it strictly for its cross-platform capability. Overall I am happy with this software. It stays out of the way when I don't need it and works seemlessly when I do. If you're running Windows ME/2K/XP and have a Windows-formatted iPod I'm not sure what its value is, but if you're running and older version of Windows or (like me) want to share an iPod between a Mac and Windows, XPlay is indispensable. 5 stars (Why can't all software be this powerful and easy???) - I installed it and that is all there is too it. Within a minute of installing XPlay I was transfering music to my iPod. It was as easy as using any other disk on my Windows XP computer. I can do everything I did with iTunes, but it just feels better, more "Windows" with XPlay. It really is one of the easiest programs I have ever used. Also, a friend of mine uses XPlay with his Windows Me system. With XPlay we were able to copy music off his iPod and save it to his PC. Pretty cool!!! I was leary when I first read reviews on here about both XPlay and Mediafour as a company. I am not sure what experience others had on here, but for my money this is a first rate program. 1 stars (Poor documentation, arrogant customer support... 3 stars (My .02) - Many software publishers allow free "trial" downloads of the product. If you didn't have enough sense to try-before-you-buy, then don't complain when your expectations aren't met. Besides, you rarely get free support on a $40 title, so stop whining. I'm going to download this and try it. If I like it, I'll buy and then add another review. 1 stars (Bad Software) - I bought this and got Amazon's usual good service. That's the good news. This software is lousy! The design objects don't even include common things like bath vanities. They must want you to use a kitchen base cabinet but the depth and height are wrong and you can't change either. The length you can change. Tech support is $10 per phone call or $5 per email. What arrogance. DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE. Bill in Lansing Iowa. ... 1 stars (ARE THEY KIDDING????) - This CD rom even comes with TUTORIALS! I still can't get past them to get to the real designs I want to make. The directions are written for people who need a degree in computer engineering. I have a decent knowledge of computers, Access, Excel, Word, etc. I thought it would be relatively easy once I got the "hang of it." I can't find a "back" or "erase" button like on Word, to delete or erase the most recent action, so I end up having to start over again. And again. And again. I was so excited to use this because I'm so sick of going to craft stores and seeing nothing but ugly cross-stitch kits for flower bouquets, kitchen decor or farm animals. This CD is a waste of time and money. Don't bother. 3 stars (Simplistic ) - First off, I think it is worth the money - that being said, it is hard to use - once a font is in place it cannot be re-sized or moved, it has to be deleted and re-done - the same goes for artwork .... I am just too used to designing with Corel and this is not even close - But, I enjoy it and have worked up some very cute designs. 4 stars (remember to save your work!) - I only do cross-stitch patterns so I can't speak to how effective this software program is for embroidery or bargello work although it does have regular, half and back stitches, French knots plus a bunch of custom stitches (smyrna cross, trellis, eyelet, chessboard, stars, etc). You start with a basic template where you select a "canvas" by size (in inches or in stitches), specify the number of thread strands and choose a cloth color. This creates a blank, grid-type canvas where you apply your choice of stitches. The program starts with a standard palette to which you subtract or add colors and one of the best features of the program is the fact that it lists hundreds of floss colors by name and number. Included are DMC (six strand floss, rayon and metallic), Anchor, JP Coates, Kreinik varieties, Maderia classic and a number of Mill Hill beads. I have... 5 stars (Great. Simple and easy to use.) - I wanted a simple full featured recording program that would rival Garageband and this is it. No complaints. Well worth the excellent price. 5 stars (I think this thing is AMAZING (But I'm a novice at this)!!!) - I can't believe there are NO reviews for this thing (as I write this)! I wanted this in mainly order to re-mix my favorite songs. I got pretty excited reading the box, and more excited when it arrived. I installed it and started running it and all of the sudden I found myself thinking "uh-oh, this is wayyyy over my head." But, like many programs, all you have to do is just start experimenting and playing around with it, and in no time, you will get the idea. The versatility this allows you to have with so many aspects of any track you import is incredible (and NO, I am not on Sony's payroll). The software comes with an honest-to-goodness, spiral-bound, hard-copy MANUAL! How rare these days! So you can be like me and take it to work to read on your breaks and then race home to try out the new techniques you read up on. The interface also has a "How Do I...?" button that covers a lot of varied functions, and it has a great, integrated, step-by-step approach that actually *teaches* you AS you do it. A great "hands-on" approach. I just can't begin to say how impressed I am at it's comprehensiveness and design. I sat with it for about 2 hours to do my first (serious) 4-minute-song re-mix, but when I was finished, I had a great track - all burned to inkjet-printed disc, and ready to give to my wife (it was one of her favorite songs). I like any software that actually allows me to *accomplish* something I really want to do, and this software did exactly that! Unless you're a super-techie who would stick his nose up at anything that runs with less than a $500 price tag, I think you'll be happy with this. I guess I should mention for those that want to *create* music from loops and so forth, it's still just as versatil... 4 stars (Don't leave home without it.) - I have used tripmaker to plan a number of trips since version 1. I am up to Tripmaker Deluxe by Topics which may be prior to this version but they have not changed much recently. I find it very useful in plotting daily mileage for different route options. My wife does not wish to travel more than 6 hours a day. Tripmaker keeps me out of trouble. For instance, I had 3 days between Yellowstone and Glacier NP. With Tripmake I tried different routes to stop at the most desirable sites in between without overdoing the driving each day. It is this sort of "what-if" testing that makes it so valuable and then print up the final choices, get on-line, make reservations and go on the road. ... 5 stars (Great Fun and Helpful Product) - I thought this was a really solid piece of software. It taught me alot of things that I needed to know about singing. I am not a professional and could not afford vocal lessons so this really was a HUGE help. The ability to sing a wide range of songs made it even more useful. Being able to see my pitch helped teach me what types of songs are good for me to sing. From what I have seen so far the music library is growing every week with better and better songs. If they keep adding songs like this there really is no limit what I can do with the software. 3 stars (Good for the beginner, but not much more.) - This program has quirky characters that teach you the basics of singing, such as breathing, posture and warm ups. Being able to see what pitch you are hitting helps a lot to strengthen the beginning singer. The reason I gave this only 3 stars, however, is that once you are done with the basics, the only thing that the program can give you is you pitch history while singing one of the songs. While this is a useful information, there isn't a wide enough varity in songs to make using this feature terribly fun and there aren't lessons to encourage you to work through the songs in a specific order. I was also quite disappointed with their online song library. This version comes with 4 free songs to down load from their song library, and I only found two that I was even willing to sing and have a vague liking for. None of my favorite songs were there. The lists of songs were quite small. They also, beyond the 4 free songs, want to charge what I think is an outragous charge per song. Get this if you are a rank beginner or need help with your pitch and are happy practicing on public domain folk songs. It's a fine piece of software if that's what you are looking for. 4 stars (Great Product) - bought this program for my daughter who loves watching American Idol and now all she wants to do is sing.
