4 stars (Good recipes for South Beach diet) - This book gives you other options that fit with all phases of the south beach diet. 5 stars (Eating Thin and Healthy Can Be Beautiful and Tasty!) - You will only be interested in this cookbook if you are a committed follower of The South Beach Diet. If you are an Atkins freak, go elsewhere! I lost 50 pounds on the South Beach Diet. To me, that accomplishment was less impressive than the fact that I couldn't lose weight on any diet before I tried this one. I think I had become insulin resistant, and everything I ate turned to fat . . . even when my calorie count was low. I found the diet appealing for some other reasons. First, I already ate a low fat diet and felt comfortable doing that. So I didn't have to change that part of my healthy eating. In fact, I was also being sure that I got "good" fats like omega-3 fatty acids from eating fish. Second, I could still eat carbs . . . I just had to avoid the ones that turn into instant blood sugar. Third, Dr. Agatston also introduced some new staples into my diet that I enjoy such as low-fat cheese snacks, having a few salty almonds, and eating steaming bowls of old-fashioned oatmeal. Fourth, and here's where the cookbook comes in, he introduced to me the idea of tasty, healthy ingredients I can use to spruce up simple foods. As a result, my cupboard has about twice as many spices as before (I love to put cinnamon on almost everything!) and my refrigerator has lots of new kinds of vegetables and fruits that I stir into all kinds of dishes. Suddenly, the ordinary becomes special and interesting! In this cookbook, Dr. Agatston once again calls on top chefs to show you how to make delicious, healthy dishes. Most recipes have fewer than 10 ingredients, and you probably already have most of them. The preparation and assembly are pretty straightforward. Even I can do these recipes! Each one also comes with nutritional descriptions of calories, saturated fat, protein,... 4 stars ( Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook ) - The recipes are great...I have used this book already and have been pleased 4 stars (This is a great cookbook for everyone!) - A cookbook full of healthy, great tasting recipes that everyone can enjoy. There is a variety of recipes so you are sure to find something that everyone can enjoy! 3 stars (Serving Size Please) - This book has easy to read instructions with helpful tips and suggestions. I love the recipes I have tried, but I do have 2 complaints. Some of the ingredients are difficult to find especially in the small town where I live and the recipes state how many servings but leave it up to me to fighure out the serving size. This makes it too easy to make mistakes. Other than that I love the book and all of the additional information that it provides. ... 1 stars (Disappointing from a nutritional perspective) - Let me start by saying I'm a big Bill Phillips fan. Did he actually write this book, or was his name just slapped on the cover? The recipes are a far cry from what any health conscious person would call "healthy" or even "good food". They are full of pre-packaged ingredients, which contain a ton of hidden fats, sodium, and preservatives. (I'm sure this is why no one bothered to add the nutritional values) Where are the fresh fruits and vegetables? Whatever happened to using common sense in determining a healthful, well-balanced diet? What on earth is a butter bud, and why would I want it in my Body For Life?? I guess this might be a step up for anyone that lives on takeout and has never learned the proper way to prepare a meal, but unless you really enjoy the taste of preservatives, this is probably not the book for you. If you're really committed to healthful living and eating, invest in a good whole foods cookbook instead, and leave this one on the shelf. 5 stars (Excellent advice and recipes) - This book is fantastic. I've been a fan of Bill Philips since reading Body for Life, and Eating for Life takes it one step further. Every recipe I have tried so far has been a success - tasty and easy to make. The dinners are all complete meals, so you don't have to worry about choosing side dishes, etc. The total time to make the meals are listed with each recipe, and so far have been accurate. Many "healthy" cookbooks I have bought in the past seemed like they were not written for real people. The recipes tend to be complex, timely to make, with hard to find ingredients. This book, on the other hand, has recipes that are simple to make, with ingredients you can find at any grocery store. Also, because he uses a lot of the same seasonings in different recipes, it doesn't cost a fortune trying to buy all new spices. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars (eating for life) - a perfect mate for the "body... 5 stars (Love It, Love It, Love It!!!!!) - This cookbook, is in my opinion Rachel Ray's best one yet. It's creative, original and very tasty. Never boring. It suits all my cooking/diet phases from low cal to low carb and everything in between. The best part about her recipes is that they are easy to tweak if you should come across an ingredient that you don't much care for without losing the flavor of the dish. I love the stuffed tomatoes! I bought this book as a birthday gift for my sister and almost couldn't give it to her, I did, and I went back to the store the next day and bought it for myself. Some opinions are just evil and nasty. Some can't tolerate watching Rachel's show and that's okay, the show is probably geared towards viewers who don't have a stick up their ... anyway. Great book and even greater gift! My sister loved it too! 5 stars (Rachel Rays cook book) - It arrived on time & in great condition. Great product, very pleased. 1 stars (At least you don't have to listen to her) - Sounds like of a "Catty" title, but I'm sorry. Some of her recepies are good, but no real nutritional values are listed, especially for being touted healthy and fast meals. I'm sure Ms. Ray has a devoted following, but after trying to watch her shows on Food Network, I find it better to read a recepie, than trying to listen to her. With her gravelly-rough cigarette voice, I find it hard to concentrate on her talking. On television she comes accross as White Trash, Redneck cooking. Does she have any cooking school behind her, or is her entire repetoire' just throw this together and your friends will find it "cool". Anyhow if you like Mizz Ray you will probably like this book, and spare your ears at the same time. Me I actually prefer, Giada De Laurentiis, and Sandra Lee. Both these ladies are classy, award winning chefs, and have actual nutritional value to their recepies. ... 5 stars (Easy, tasty recipes) - When my husband found out his triglyceride level was dangerously high last month, I began shopping around for easy low-fat cookbooks. This one is as good as the original Betty Crocker cookbook. It has colorful pictures of each recipe, the ingredients are found in every grocery store, they are easy to make, and every single one we've tried has been good! 5 stars (A Low Fat Cookbook With Recipes That Don't Taste Low Fat!!) - This is a great cookbook for anyone who wants to eat right and actually ENJOY his/her food as well! To begin, there is a lot of helpful and interesting information regarding healthy eating in the beginning of the book. Don't skip past it--it's good information! The recipes themselves are laid out in an easy to understand format and there is nutritional information for every recipe. Also, the recipes don't have a huge amount of ingredients; thus, making it quick and easy! Furthermore, there are a decent amount of pictures--we all love seeing those great pictures when flipping through a cookbook right? I've made several recipes so far and they all turned out great--I highly recommend this cookbook! 5 stars (Wonderfully Simple and Tasteful!) - This book is packed not only with yummy recipes but also with great information regarding Cholesterol, Fat, and Calories. Just tried the chocolate brownies and they are wonderful!!! They definitely don't taste low calorie and low cholesterol! Each recipe is listed as being either Low Fat, Low Cholesterol, and/or Low Calorie so no matter what your diet needs you'll find recipes you love. Most of the recipes are low in all 3 areas, even the desserts!!! This book is worth it for the nutritional information alone but please make sure and try the chocolate brownies!!! ... 1 stars (Nice Book if You Can Get It) - Why did Amazon even bother putting this book on their site? I have waited 4 MONTHS for it. There seems to be no place in the world where this book can be obtained. Granted the author and publisher are partially to blame for putting this book in such small distribution, but why would Amazon bother to say it can be ordered through them? I hope anyone considering this book realizes it's just not worth the wait. 5 stars (This book is a bargain) - If you are a person who desires to eat cleaner and healthier and have no clue where to begin then this is the book for you. It is not a gourmet "heart attack on a plate" or " Quick n easy unhealthy food" cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow and not overly complicated, yet will taste good and be way better than just edible like some other diet foods are. Yummy and nourishing are two words coming to mind right now. Look at the cover and I can tell you the food tastes as good as it looks. Just be sure you really are serious about the Lean, Strong body because that`s what you will get if you use the recipes in this book! 5 stars (Great Book with simple to prepare recipes) - I bought Stellas Kitchen a few months ago and I really like the book. The recipes are easy to follow and well explained for people, like me, who are not experienced chefs. I personally think the simplicity of the recipes is an asset to the book. This is a great resource for those involved in the Iron game. It give many great suggestions for preparing tasty, high-protein meals simply and conveniently. Even my wife who is not especially health conscious likes the recipes in this cook book. I have found the recipes for preparing meats, poultry, and fish to be especially good. I also like the fact that the cook book explains what makes these recipes healthier than the average recipe. This information has helped me to adapt some of my own recipes in similar ways in order to make them healthier. It not ... 5 stars (Good stuff!) - I tried out a couple opf recipes - they range from easy to lengthy. The time estimates for the recipes are on the low side. Probably correct if you have an entire kitchen full of trained staff. Other than that the recipes are awesome. I didn't think that my schedule permitted me to cook like this. 5 stars (great food for athletes) - We've had the book for a few weeks now and have sampled some recipes. Not only is the food good, but the preparation is easy and it doesn't have expensive "exotic" ingredients that make cooking at home more trouble than its worth. I was a little wary of the way the plan/meals were broken down, but after reading the text (there's a lot), it was well-explained and made sense for both athletes and folks just looking for healthy food choices in a busy lifestyle. I own all the Carmichael books and think they're very helpful and informative for cyclists and general athletes. 2 stars (Impractical ) - I was disappointed in the cookbook. We are not gourmet cooks. I assume many of the recipes are from the restaurant the chef runs. I was looking for a down-to-earth guide to nutrition for an amateur triathlete. Sorry Chris I like your other books but not this one. Can I get a refund? ... 5 stars (Wonderful book with great recipes and techniques!) - My husband and I aren't diabetic, but we both need to lose weight. We didn't have much success with any of the brand-name diets, so we went to a registered dietician who put us on a diabetic exchange diet. Initially we had a hard time sticking to it, because it was hard to figure out ways to make food tasty with limited fat and starch intake, not to mention trying to figure out correct portion sizes to fit our exchanges. This book, however, is making it much easier. I'm learning how to make subsitutions so food tastes good but is still healthy and within our dietary limits. The food may not always be as full-flavored as our favorite old fat-laden recipes, but there are recipes my husband is actually requesting, instead of wishing he could have his favorite fast food or Thai food! The intro to the book has tips on portion sizes and subsitutionswhich are helpful in knowing what to eat and how much of it. Couple this information with a good kitchen scale, and you'll find that you'll be preparing meals you're actually looking forward to eating! 5 stars (Mr. Food's Quick & Easy Diabetic Cooking) - Brief and to the point, this book was just WONDERFUL. Mr. Food's TV recipes always seem so deliciously decedant. This book is also delicious ... but very far from decadent! Loved it! 4 stars (Simple, quick) - While his little show makes me want to jump out a window, his cookbook lives up to its name. Quick and easy, and the recipes actually work, unlike with many other cookbooks where the recipes do not turn out. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because the book lives up to its name and is affordable. ...
