5 stars ( Boundaries ) - This is the most life-changing book I have ever read (second the Bible)! I think every high school graduate should be required to read it! The authors describe in great detail what boundaries are, and who needs them. I experience a lot of guilt when I want to say no to someone's request. I feel that I am letting them down, no matter what the request is. The authors use scripture to help you determine what are appropriate things to say no to, and why you should not feel guilty. Even Jesus, the most giving person who ever lived, had boundaries! This book does not give excuses to get out of your responsibilities, but helps you to see what are unhealthy situations to avoid, and how to get out of them. It even gives some examples for parenting so you children will learn boundaries. I am grateful to have read this book, and find myself re-reading it often. 4 stars (inspiring) - I haven't completed the entire book as of yet but what I have read is very helpful and inspiring. For anyone who lacks confidence, this book is a God send. 5 stars (Extraordinary!) - The principles in Boundaries have revolutionalized my life. Well worth the time and money. It's way beyond "a good read"; it's extremely practical. I wish I'd read it years ago. I WILL be reading it at least once a year from now until I die. It's THAT good. ... 5 stars (Pronoia) - Amazing. I was just thinking the same thoughts! Actually quite a bit of it makes a lot of sense. There is a bit of "weirdness' to it, but since I'm a bit weird myself, I kind of like it. I'm recommending it to a few select friends, folks that are as "strange and wonderful" as I am. 5 stars (Pronoia and me) - Every time I pick up this book and start to read, my mood changes. I can be a gloomy guss at times and these wise words pull me right out of the shadows. I begin to feel lighter and less worried about the state of the world. I feel hope and maybe even start to hum a ditty. That's enough for me to recommend this book to you. Love to you all, tim 5 stars (Give Me More) - This is the perfect book to give as a gift, to your friends, enemies, family, and don't forget yourself. Full of stuff to make you feel good to be you now as you read the contemporary anecdotes that are consistently smart and constantly full of surprises. Of course, anyone who knows Rob Brezsny's work doesn't need to be convinced at all. Rob Brezsny, if you're reading this, I love you. Thank you for being born. ... 3 stars (A critique of the Art of Happiness) - Happiness is not a goal that can be achieved through seeking. No search has ever realized happiness because the very activity of seeking confirms unhappiness. Therefore, whatever your state in the moment, it must be transcended in present happiness. If you find yourself seeking then you are not presently happy are you? This whole notion about the pursuit of happiness is completely false. You must give up the search and then you realize that you are already happy. So the Dalai Lama is recommending the traditional error of seeking and whatever else he recommends as useful practical advice is tainted by this initial premise. Funnily enough, when asked if he is happy, he says yes, so if he is happy, what need is there to seek? A better teaching would be to point out that everyone is already seeking; for money, power, sex, good food, whatever, and finding that the search is never satisfied. The point is not to channel that activity and search for spiritual satisfaction. The point is to understand that seeking is suffering. I say, "You cannot become happy. You can only be happy!" 1 stars (Did Not Recieve) - I never recieved the book. I had ordered two from Abebooks, one was no longer available after it was charged to my account, and the other one was also charged to my account but never arrived. I will not order books from Amazon again. 5 stars (Make peace with your emotions) - I enjoyed this book immensely and learned a great deal from it. The Dalai Lama's perspective on emotions and mindfulness is enlightening and full of wisdom. In the same purchase I bought another book I was referred to that is endorsed by The Dalai Lama called "The Emotional Intelligence Quick Book." It's really great for learning specifically about EQ and increasing your own. ... 3 stars (Important concept, but, badly written book) - The concept is important and the author shows good understanding of optimal experience, i.e., what are the prerequisites, what goes on, what do people feel when they are in flow and the analysis of all of it. Credit goes to the author for all these. But, there are too many awfully written paragraph that will make you wonder if you are wasting time with this book. Especially, initially where it's too verbose and preachy. I guess it badly needs one more (better) editing. 3 stars (Marginal) - My primary complaint is the anoying music between each track. However, it also seemed like it was a very light treatment of the material. This could easily be due to the nature of abridged audio books. But, I would not recomend the audio book. 5 stars (Flow away) - Cziskszentmihalyi introduces an experiential concept that he calls "Flow". He suggests that this experiential state is intricately related to our happiness and explores the central factors that are associated with the phenomena. By comparing various examples of moments of "Flow" and others not of "Flow", the author provides an in depth investigation into this subjective state of mind. Some of the author's scientific research on this topic is also discussed. It is clear that the author is onto something very interesting and important just from the fact that this concept has crept into many books on Psychology in the past few years. The writing is not too technical and is understandable for people who are not experts in the field. Highly recommended! [...] ...
