5 stars (All the business software you'll ever need!) - As a daily user of FileMaker Pro, this latest upgrade provides the best FM Pro yet! First, FileMaker Pro is not one product, but multiple. For example, you can use it as your customer contact manager, purchase order/invoice system, accounts payable, business card manager, etc. It can become all of the software solutions you need. What may cost you thousands of dollars to purchase individually is all capable within FileMaker. And the best part is you can customize it to YOUR liking. FM Pro 7 gives even more options. One of the best features is the ability to store or link to other documents like pdf (Adobe Acrobat), word, excel, etc. Just imagine pulling up your client and having instant access to invoices, documentation, etc. right at your fingertips. This is all the software you'll ever need and with a superb team that built FileMaker you'll be pleased (they are also a part of Apple so you know it's quality!) ... 5 stars (This version is lightyears away from earlier versions) - I'm a database professional, one of the few MySQL Certified Professionals in the country. I've been familiar with dBase, InfoFile, Clarion, Microsoft Access, FoxPro, Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL, most since their earliest incarnations. I've been tinkering with FileMaker since version 3 (1995). It never seemed much more than an oh-so-slightly souped-up version of the database in ClarisWorks/AppleWorks. I've always evaluated FileMaker's time-limited downloads, but was never impressed. But version 7 is a quantum leap, highly matured. If you want a replacement for the buggy and unstable Microsoft Access, here it is. On a note, I bought a copy of FileMaker 7 on eBay. When I registered it, FileMaker told me that it was a pirated copy, which diminished my opinion of that online service. I believe that if "a software is good enough to use, it's good enough to pay for". On a shoestring budget, I needed to find the best price, and it was here on Amazon. 5 stars (Amazing) - The improvements made over version 6 are monumental! A must have for database users and users of previous versions! A+++++ 5 stars (Have been using for 2 months now.) - I have been using Filemaker 7 for Mac for 2 motnhs now. I am so happy with all the improvements they have made. Hands down this is the best database program (Mac or PC) ever made. A must buy! ... 5 stars (Dual Platform) - Previous produt from Filemaker (version 6Dev) is overall satisfactory. Even if the way of building tabs might take some work, other improvements do largely compensate for this weakness. To avoid the "flicker" one has just to be precise to the pixel in the placement of the layout elements. And FM does offer tools to do so even in version 6! Previous versions and information from Filemaker Inc. clearly state that the intaller is dual platform, Mac AND Windows on the same disk. So, unless amazon is marketing a special version this product should also work for Mac computers. 5 stars (Great Development Tool) - Now that you've read the previous 0 star rating, (tab buttons - give me a break), realize that FileMaker 7 is a great database development platform. Just a few of the upgrade's improvements: No File Size Limit (that's a heck of a lot of recipies Bob). The days of needing to migrate when a file hits the 2 Gig file size wall are OVER. Your database can grow to fill the largest hard drive a computer can support. Multiple data tables per file. Improved browser support of buttons and scripts through instant web publishing feature. Improved security. And if one is really worried about lining up their "tab buttons" on layouts, FileMaker offers a free 30 day evaluation for download from their website. In fact, the only negative comment I can make is that the Server version won't be available until this summer. 1 stars (Developer edition is an oxymoron) - I purchased and installed this product and ran into a brick wall, that precludes its use as a serious development tool. My real rating is 0 stars. Filemaker does not use tab controls. It gets around this shortcoming by requiring that a separate layout be designed for each tab. Importantly this is not just for the information on the tab, BUT FOR THE WHOLE COTTON-PICKIN layout!!! Then when a user clicks on the tab "button", a new layout is repainted over the old. Even though Filemaker provides... Filemaker Inc :: Database (ODBC) :: Development :: Programming :: Database (Databases) :: Computer software (programs) :: :: FileMaker Developer 7
1 stars (Do NOT buy this.) - I just upgraded to version 7. Every other negative comment made by others here is true, plus they just do NOT answer e-mails. I was unable to register my upgrade copy. I sent four e-mails and not a single one was answered. I finally called and was told there was a bug in the registraion of "some" copies and not to type my name in the name field, but my company name and leave the company field blank. Yup, that worked. Now, if the registration is that buggy, they have no e-mail customer support, and the upgrades are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive (and see other reviews for lack of fit and finnish), why would you buy it? I'm very sorry I did. File Maker 8 is coming out and the upgrade is $179. I'd rather use shareware. 1 stars (Do NOT buy this.) - I just upgraded to version 7. Why people with only cursory knowledge speak with such authority has always puzzled me. So I offer an objective, if lengthy, review. I've been using FileMaker since 1990. Developing FileMaker applications has been my primary source of income for almost...
