Talk Now- Learn Polish - Beginning Level

5 stars (Much better than expected) - Ok, I bought about 4 CDS for polish an dthis was the best o all.....this CD was great because unlike "teach yourself Polish"...ALL the talk was in Polish with pictures and English written translation...so you could play it 500 times with NO WASTE at all since you'll keep hearing POlish so much much better than ';teach yourself polish " cd. it was also much better than polish immersion which was an insult. I highly reccomend this CD 5 stars (Fun way to learn some basic Polish words) - This program will teach you to read, write, and correctly speak some very basic Polish words and sentences. It's a great way to get excited about learning Polish. It is however quite basic. You will only learn about 300 words. But you will learn them very, very well. And you will speak them very, very well. The program allows users to listen as two native polish speakers say the same words and phrases. You can repeat these as often as you like. And you can record your own speach and replay it until your pronounciation is correct. You will learn basic words, colors, food items, phrases, numbers, how to tell time, names of body parts, names of things you may shop for, and polish names of various countries. As a bonus you can print out a very nice polish picture dictionary. To help reinforce your learning, there are many games that give you the opportunity to be challenged. These too are rather simple...but they are indeed fun. And finally...you do not need to understand english to use this program as a polish instructional tool, you can choose from 72 different host languages. In my opinion, Talk Now will teach you quicker and better than Pimsluer. When you are ready get the intermediate version of Euro Talk Polish called World Talk Polish. And forget Pimsluer, which is overpriced and over-rated. Same goes for Rosetta Stone and a few others. When you are ready for intermediate/advanced learning, then consider courses such as Colloquial Polish..etc. ...

Talk Now- Learn Tagalog - Beginning Level

3 stars (Instructional CD - Talk Now! Learn Tagalog ) - Teaches a working vocabulary. Games provided are based on repeating the words so it does imprint the words. However, they do not provide any basics as to how to put words together to create sentences. It's still OK though as it does claim to be appropriate for "absolute beginners". 1 stars (You won't be able to talk back and forth with this.) - If you are looking to buy this software in order to speak to someone back and forth, this is not the product for you. It will teach you phrases and questions, but you won't be able to understand any answers that a native speaker might give you because it doesn't teach you that. You will be able to identify objects in a house or building, but you won't know how to use them in a sentence or even in a fragmented sentence. This is also true for colors. If this is what you rely on to travel somewhere you might find yourself in the middle of a croud just saying azul(blue)......pula(red).... malalim na azul(dark blue)....Nasaan ang maipaparada ng kotse(where can I park the car?) and then even when you ask where can I park the car you won't know where to park it because you won't understand anything that people will tell you because it doesn't teach you that(people might think you're retarded haha). It only teaches you numbers up to 20, so you're out of luck if you ask magkano ito? (how much is this?) and the answer is 150 pisos. You'll just have to hand a merchant a wad of cash and hope he is honest and gives you your change. However, with all the bad things out of the way, this might make a good start for you to learn how to say the words correctly, even though the guy that talk doesn't pronounce the words correctly on there, just click on the girl(she says the correct pronunciations). Talk Now- Learn Learn Croatian - Beginning Level

3 stars (fun and easy to learn...) - However, quite basic, so once you've finished the first CD, you'll need something else to get to more advanced practice. Even so, this CD worked perfectly for me and did not require me to download any additional software in order to get it to run. I'm using Mac OS X, 10.3.4-Panther on a G4 iBook. The fact that I'm running a Mac version may explain the differences in my review from the other reviewers the same software, who are likely windows based users. The games are quite fun and the graphics are crisp. We've not yet utilized the voice comparisson option, but look forward to doing so as soon as my microphone arrives--the program allows you to have your pronounciation/voicing compared to the native speaker's voices on the CD. For the price (I purchased on sale for under 15$), it's darned good. Not sure what the other reviewers paid, but considering most shareware costs about that much, this is a solid performer. We supplemented this starter program with Pimleseur Croatian. Imati velik dan! (have a great day!) Nina 1 stars (do not buy this item) - I have given this item 1 star because there is nothing lower. It might be a good product, I will never know. The first thing you will find is that in order to view the product you will need to download a software package costing an additional $15. The next thing you will find is that if you want a refund from Amazon, you will pay the shipping because this is not their fault (even though this is not mentioned in the description). The next thing you will find is that if you delete the program on your computer you will lose shared files. 3 stars (OK, but . . .) - Everything said in the editorial review is true. This method is a lot of fun and the interactive bit really helps. 3 stars (A Good Start) - There is not much out there in Ukrainian language learning software, so this is a good start. It covers basic some basic vocabulary, but only a few travel phrases. It was simple and easy to use. Not much depth, but is billed 'beginning level.' I did not care for the 'ditzy' personalities or the gambling motif, but that is all window dressing. 1 stars (Don't Buy ) - They consider their customers to be software pirates. So, you cannot run their program from your hard drive. I really don't like being considered a criminal. Let your kid put a scratch on you cd and you have no backup because they made this so you cannot back it up. Very, very, very poor customer relations. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. Talk Now- Learn Dutch - Beginning Level

5 stars (I'm already speaking dutch!) - The format for this language-learning program is excellent. The biggest problem I found when i tried to teach myself Dutch, was that I had no clue how to pronounce what I was reading. With this program you have 2 native-speakers saying each word (a male and a female), which is enormously helpful in learning the pronunciation. Another great feature is the record button, which allows you to record your own voice, and then instantly compare it to the native speakers. I love this! In fact, my pronunciation was much closer than I imagined it to be. And my boyfriend, who is from the Netherlands, was very impressed with how quickly I was able to pick up so many words and phrases, and say them like a seasoned speaker, and not with a silly accent. There are also quizzes and games, which offer more ways to learn, touching on all aspects of comprehension. I highly recommend this software. Not only was it painless to learn, it was a total blast! Even my 5 year old son loves to use it. ...

2 stars (Nice toy, does not teach you Greek) - This product is very different from e.g. "Learn to speak French". It does not teach you basic Greek. It will teach you, pleasantly, to say some words and phrases. That's it. If you are pleased to be able to say "Good morning", "Thank you" and "May I have the bill, please" in the local lingo, go ahead and enjoy. If you want to understand any reply, you need more than this. If you just want to get around, a very, very thin printed parlor will serve you better and more reliably. ...

4 stars (Parlez-vous fran?#ais?) - This interactive learning experience is fun, colorful and very humorous! It makes learning enjoyable! The only drawback to this program is that it is quite difficult to understand at first. You need to have substantial knowledge of French to be able to catch on to the process; luckily there is an English translation to everything so that you can figure it out. Overall I found Asterix to be a good learning tool in my ongoing effort to learn French. ...

Talk Now- Learn Catalan - Beginning Level

3 stars (Interesting? Yeah, that's it - - interesting language course) - I was abit disappointed with this CD. The price certainly is a bargain; but I agree with the other reviewers in that it is a good introduction to some basic Catalan terms but don't expect to be carrying on conversations about global politics with your taxi driver. The games are - interesting. The interface - well, interesting. But, the actors in it are downright creepy -- a strangely - almost perverse - course that has animated human actors voicing out the words. Interesting? Yeah, kind of -- but, creepy nonetheless. Good for the tourist -- but, watch out when the native Catalan speakers start talking as rapid as they do. Then you may have more respect for the creepy animations on this CD. 4 stars (definitely for beginners) - Learn Catalan is a fun activity and a good learning experience for those with no spanish base; however, i have taken about 5 years of Spanish and found the CD to be fairly basic, and while catalan differs in many ways, many of the things they teach are not as useful as i would hope. There are a lot of items and phrases neccessary to be a tourist. I definitely have benefitted from this CD because i can hear the way the language is pronounced and become more absorbed in it. Overall, great for beginners, and only slightly helpful for someone with spanish knowledge. 4 stars (Good, solid, but extremely basic intro to Catalan...) - AV materials for Catalan are very difficult to find. But Catalan is certainly worth investigating, and this makes for a highly pleasant intro. Now if only Eurotalk would come up with a second CD. ...

Talk Now- Learn Bengali - Beginning Level

2 stars (Some value, but mostly disappointed) - While I like the CD format and am impressed with its interactive features, I was mainly disappointed by this product. The vocabulary is quite limited, and also not very culturally appropriate. For example, I don't see myself going to Calcutta and asking where I can buy pizza, a hamburger, and a beer. Also it would be more useful to know how to say sari, blouse, and bindi, than shorts and tee-shirt. The lessons were also too focused on nouns and very few verbs (if any?) were taught. I did like the feature that allows you to record and compare your pronunciation, and the spellings were shown in Bengali script, which is good for those trying to develop their reading skills. Definitely need to supplement this product with other books. 4 stars (Great for vocabulary building and pronunciation practice) - Don't depend on this software to teach Bengali script or grammar. You should use it in conjunction with a grammar book. I use this and 101 Languages of the World mainly to practice pronunciation but also to build my vocabulary. You can click on a word over and over to hear the pronunciation. You can also record yourself and compare your pronunciation to that of the native speaker. The software focuses on basic vocabulary like numbers, colors, greetings, travel phrases, food, etc. It has games to reinforce learning. I like the fact that they show you each word written in Bengali script which helps with word recognition when I read Bengali. I highly recommend getting this and 101 Languages of the World. I am giving it 4 stars because they don't teach as many words as I would have liked. I estimate that there are about 400-500 words. But for the purposes of improving pronunciation it is worth it. ...

2 stars (A start.... just a start) - Noh...tere! Although this is from a series called "Talk Now!" and it's entitled "Learn Estonian"... it hardly comes close to doing any of that. It only allows you to learn some words, and reinforces them through little games. However, if you wanted to say anything more than a simple phrase or word, this doesn't help you. This would be good for someone who might be visiting Tallinn and wants to impress the natives with a few words in Estonian. But if one seriously wants to learn about this language, even the Colloquial Estonian course is better, coming with tapes that have full sentences and teach some grammar. (although this program has its own weaknesses, too). Even though there is no audio program, the texts from Indiana University's curriculum seems to be the best... if you can get them! Tsau ...
