5 stars (Big step-up from 2.0) - Just returned from a workshop at the Santa Fe Photo Workshop. Was amazed to learn how much more I can do with Elements 3.0 compared to 2.0. There was no difference in the class between the capabilities of my Elements 3.0 and the folks who were using Photoshop CS2; however, there were lots of things I would not have been able to do in 2.0. I am sure that for professional photographers, CS2 offers many advantages - but, as a "serious amateur", I am glad I didn't spring for the additional cost. I love the way you can move back and forth between the quick fix function and standard editing with just a click on buttons at the top of the screen. Having the adjustment sliders down the right side of the screen is very convenient - although that makes the photo workspace smaller. For the price, Elements 3.0 is top notch in my opinion. 3 stars (Amazing color-correction, but Windows users beware!) - I feel like an idiot for buying this software. This is a Macintosh application that has been ported to Windows with predictably confusing results. I was looking for an inexpensive alternative to the various photo editting tools I've acquired with different hardware peripherals. In the past I have relied on an old Adobe product that came with my HP scanner to do simple photo editting, but I was having trouble installing it on my Windows XP machine, and thought it was time to look for something more modern. A large part of this product suite is a photo organizer that is not as easy to use as Picasa, a free product available from Google. I have only begun to attempt to use the photo editting software on the JPEG files I have been scanning from slides. I must say that the "auto correction" operation, whatever it does exactly, seems really excellent. I am amazed at how well it corrects the color automatically: I have some slides I shot of the leaning tower of Pisa that were all overexposed, by (my) mistake, and are thus super-saturated with... 5 stars (great update) - The improvemnet from the first cs is very good, for one it loads faster, and that in itself is worth the money to upgrade. i havent yet explored the other new features, but I trust adobe. 5 stars (Use only for stand alone PSCS upgrade) - If you use Adobe Creative Suite CS, this is not the upgrade for you. You will need to purchase an entire Suite upgrade. You cannot upgrade only the Photoshop CS application within the Suite. But, Photoshop is a fantastic program that works more smoothly than the operating system underwhich it works. With a couple of plugins from Photokit, it is the best thing for a digital photographer who wants to make dramatic, beautiful prints. 3 stars (Caution to Creative Suite CS users trying PhotoshopCS2 upgrade) - I already know the fabulous new features of Photoshop CS2. I have Creative Suite CS Premium. I purchased this upgrade for Photoshop to gain the new features. After several attempts in trying to install this software, I called Adobe, only to learn that this Photoshop CS2 upgrade does NOT work with the full version of Creative Suite CS....period !!! No where on their packaging is there such a caution. It says it is compatable with all versions of Photoshop. Funny...I have Photoshop CS in my Creative Suite Premium package...but guess what??....so what....it don't work !!!! I've waisted $140.00, and am not gonna spend $744.00 for Creative Suite CS2 Upgrade !!!!!! ... 1 stars (Not good with XP) - Installing this program on a computer running Windows XP a HUGE problem. After installing Window gives the message that the software will cause Windows to become unstable, and that Windows prevented the drivers from loading. Then sends you to Roxio website for patch. The patch did not work, and their support service provides a resolution that involves editing your computer's Registry, a task I do not want to attempt. By the way, the only way you can speak to a live person is to pay $35 per hour, more than I paid for the program itself. Totally frustrating software for XP. 5 stars (Just right -- if you want simple & unadorned CD/DVD functions) - I've seen the reviews by others, and concur that the software lacks the bells and whistles of the newer full Roxio product (ver 7). BUT ... if you're looking for some simple features that don't hog a lot of drive space or CPU cycles, this earlier product (ver 6) fits the bill. I've been looking for a simple packet-writing program to drag-and-drop files for archiving or transfer between systems [your old floppy 'sneakernet'], and it's just right for that simple task. Window's XP file transfer is just miserable, as it treats a document like graphics material, storing it to disk, then writing track-by-track with balloons and other distractions. This package lets you format and write/delete to RW discs without hassle. Better yet, in "Custom" installation you can pick and choose the functions you need, and forget about the fancy 'Control Center'. For my simple needs it works like a charm at minimal cost. 1 stars (Lost this gamble! Save your $30.00 if you plan on using it for DVD copying.) - After reading mixed reviews about Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator, I decided to give it a shot based on past experience with Roxio products. I've used Roxio products in the past to make flawless music CD creations and copies. Recently, I updated my CD-R drive with a DVD-R burner from a reputable company. The soft... 1 stars (Horrible) - I was a big fan, starting with MGI PhotoSuite 3, then very happy with version 4. I got version 5, the first one released under Roxio, and it basically had only cosmetic differences from 4. I assumed version 7 would be a nice upgrade, and there was a $15 rebate off the $29.99 price, so I bought it. What a horrible mistake! PS 7 Platinum takes forever to install (~30 minutes!), as if the CD is defective or something. Then, the install says you have to reboot; my Win XP refused to boot again. I had to recovery back. I tried again; again it corrupted the registry. Roxio tech support is unresponsive. So it is basically unusable software. I guess this is one way Roxio can try and force PS users to upgrade to Easy Media Creator. My advice is DO NOT upgrade to 7 if you are an existing PS4 or 5 user. If you don't already have PS, and want a low-end, easy to use photo editing tool, get PS version 4 or 5 as copies of these versions are still available dirt cheap from software liquidator sites (just do a Google on PhotoSuite to find them). 1 stars (Don't buy this) - The software is not that great. I also had a mail in rebate for this software ($15) - The request was recieved on December 12 and I am yet to recieve the rebate. I have bought stuff much later and have got the mail in rebates for those submitted 2 months later. Do not buy any products from Roxio. They suck. 1 stars (Forget About Tech Support) - I believe the PS 5 isa better prodouct than the 7.This version is very cumberson. I got a deal on the Upgrade(?). Had some issues with it, then when I wrote to Tech Support I got back a form e-mail saying thatthey had wrked out all their issues , refered me to a automatic trouble shooter.Did not even cover my area. Now I can't reinstall the PS5. Suggest you keep looking around. ... 5 stars (The perfect solution) - Moving into a new house, I had so many projects to make it my own. This product made it all happen. It was easy to start and I had walls drawn and showing in 3D in a few minutes. First, I drew the existing structure. The ability to draw the plan easily and see it in 3D every step of the way made it quite easy. And, I've tried all the competitors. The only product that lets you show the 3D view (with shadows from lights and sun) without grueling waiting and finger tapping is Punch.. its blazing fast. Changing the plan was just as easy! You drag a wall and dimensions display showing you were you are. Move a window or door and you instantly see the results in the 3D view. When I wanted to knock down a dividing wall between the great room and kitchen, it was a couple of mouse clicks and poof, gone. This was huge in determining how open the plan would be and if this part of the remodeling was worth it. When it comes time to landscape, this was way cool. You can customize your yard and its a blast. With a few mouse clicks you can add hills/berms to your yard, I even used the excavation tool and dug a hole for a swimming pool(now if I could just really have it :) The picket fence I added even conformed to the changed landscape. And.. then I added plants. Tons of plants and I even used their tool to select only plants in my area. Then.. to top it off..with a click of the mouse I could grow the entire landscape to see how it would look when the trees grew. As for learning.. you'll love it. You can be drawing in minutes.. but if you need some help there are videos that walk you through how to use each tool. Very cool. 1 stars (Wish I'd Read The Reviews First!) - Like a fool I purchased this software based on the cool pictures on the box and the long list of features. Unfortunately, the pictures turn out to be not actual screenshots, and the features are, as Bart pointed out, little more than limited templates. A couple ca... 2 stars (Transparency Problem) - This product is very nice when it works. However, I'm having the same problem as the reviewer below me. When I attempt to export the image - either by saving, draging or copying, Hemera places a transparency over the object, making the product worthless. I gave it two stars because, for the two months it worked, it worked well, however, now, it won't work at all. And as the other reviewer stated, support is nearly non-existant. 1 stars (Can't use this program) - This product offers much to chose from and I really liked the photos. However, I have yet to get this program to work right. I am able to view the photos but when I go into the the Export Wizard to save the photos, the photo has a transparency over the top of it, instead of in the background. I tried bypassing the Export Wizard by right clicking on the selected photo and saving. This also inserts the transparency over the photo. I called Hemera in Canada and they instructed me to call Encore USA in CA for support. Encore USA said they couldn't help me. Encore's technical support is "limited to crashes, error messages and lockups". I also referred to their website hoping to find help in the knowledge base or FAQ's. There was VERY little about this software and no help to be found. I wasted my money on a product I can't use and that offers no support for issues out of my control. 4 stars (Best value Hemera offers, but a few cautions) - First, if you're thinking about using these photos for print, you may wish to think again. Most objects run between 300-600 pixels in width or height, or 1-2 inches at 300 DPI. Stretch them bigger than that, and they'll start to blur and/or get jagged. Also note, that if you try to export/save an image from the Hemera Image browser and select the 300 DPI setting, the browser may stretch the graphic larger than it's actual size, causing blurring and jaggedness right out of the gate. You need to use the "Use Image's Full Size" checkbox w... 4 stars (Extensis Photo Imaging Suite) - Pros: Great bundle, solid, friendly interface. Cons: Missing Portfolio Manual, Big ticket price. If you have virtually any experience in digital imaging, and have not heard the name "Extensis" mentioned in some form or another, then I suspect you have been hiding in a spider cave somewhere in the desert. I have personally owned, and used all of their software programs at one time or another, and can personally vouch for their reliability, and usefulness. And so, in keeping up with the "Jones's"(I.E. Adobe), The great folks at Extensis have just released their latest and greatest suite of programs titled, Extensis Photo Imaging Suite. for the purposes of brevity, I will refer to this program as EPI Suite in this review. The Extensis product line is extensive, and broad in its scope. It currently stands at roughly 20 plus programs all targeted at digital imaging tools including type and layout programs. This newest Suite of programs contain the top 5 programs all bundled together into one singular "Suite" of powerful creative tools. All of these programs function independently of each other, and do not include a "Version Cue" style of interface like its Adobe counterpart. That about wraps it up for Extensis Photo Imaging Suite. Every program included in this suite is another powerful step in the workflow of photo imaging capabilities. To go from enhancing an image, cleaning it up, masking it off, framing it, upscaling it, to finally cataloguing it, Extensis Photo Imaging Suite rocks. Without exception, I could, and do use every one of these programs in my daily imaging, and will for a long time to come. In closing I want to urge all of you to take a good look at this great suite of programs from Extensis. I know that many of you out there think that the only program that you need to be fully digital is Adobe Photoshop. And I will tell you that you are really missing out on a number of time, and labor saving progra... 5 stars (Slick, Extraordinary!) - I downloaded the trial version from the company's website and decided to buy the full version straight away. The interface is different than standard Windows applications', but is clean-cut. I have no diffculty to build several testing albums following the simple steps dispalyed in the first starting page: select photos > select music > select style > change settings > build (save). I also figured out how to edit the saved albums in the My Album list. This is the most inspiring slideshow software I've ever seen. The result is definitely extraordinary. I've been able to create a wedding video using the 3D-Album animation (there are many adds-on for weddings) for the introduction part and the conclution credit at the end. I also created a photo slideshow displayed in a wedding reception. The pastor told me that he's been in many many weddings but this is the best show he's ever seen. A good value for your money. 1 stars (Terrible- Do NOT buy it) - I downloaded a demo version and made a few slideshows. First, it is very difficult to make simple changes. Not a typical interface software for performing simple functions that a normal program would have. There is no bottom for saving, nore a bottom to start new. You have to open a new sub-directory to retrieve pictures to start a new slideshow. And if you delete a set of pictures on the working directory, it actually deletes them from the actual subdirectory. You may have to get back to retrieve them from your recyle ben. It took me a whole day to figure out how to change simple funtions since it really has a bad menu system. The slideshow runs so slow, can't find a place to speed up the show. THey need a 24 online support system since there is no place to find an answer. There is no "find buttom" for the help menu for where or how to change the speed. I can tell you more, but will end up writing a whole book about it. Before you think about purchesing this product, plea... 5 stars (Ken Burns: Watch out!) - Of course, I love iMovie and the Ken Burns effect, but after having used Photo to Movie, I was amazed at how much smoother it was than KB effect. Plainly, PtM is superior than the KB effect. So, will I ever use the KB effect again?... Of course. Because I find that the KB effect is quicker to use than PtM. But, I plan on getting to know PtM better so that I can apply its superior motion effects in my slideshows. And its totally worth the money I spent on PtM. I recommend it to all. 5 stars (Photo to Movie - worth the $$$) - I was hoping to put together a slideshow of my recent vacation pictures to share with my mother. I'd read good things about Photo to Movie and decided to give it a shot. I don't purchase a lot of software but this product is definitely worth the price. After a few minutes of familiarization, I was using the software like a pro. I highly recommend this to anybody wanting to add some zip to their slideshows. 5 stars (Excellent quality. Easy to use. Best slideshow app.) - Photo to Movie is a must have for people who want to create really professional quality movies from their digital photos. The software gives you precise control over the motion of the photos and the results are far better than what you can do in iMovie. Ken Burns - eat your heart out. ... 5 stars (Better Than Expected) - I decided to go with Picture It 10 based on Consumer Reports on this and other photo editing software. So far it has proven better than I would have expected. Pretty easy to get into and use from scratch. And it has many features new to me and has been easy to learn. Glad I got it. 1 stars (Not near as good as the older versions) - I owned a couple older versions of this program. I bought this becuase my older software wasn't compatible with my new XP operating system. I was very disappointed when I found Microsoft has dropped many of the functions such as artistic edges and text enhancements such as shadows. I loved these features and found they recommended an "upgrade" to the Digital Image Suite. I thoguht I would do this, but I found you can't "upgrade." You have to buy the full version of Digital Image Suite for the full price. Ridiculus! I went ahead and purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements. I recommend you do too. 3 stars (It's Okay....) - I wasn't expecting an old version of Microsoft Picture It! I'm still looking for a good picture keeper that isn't so complicated. 5 stars (Simply the best software available for presenting your media collection) - I've been a Meedio Essentials user since the early beta days and it really is amazing the amount of power this software has. The developers really listen to their customers wants/needs and implement those features in new releases. The best part about Meedio is the helpful community. There are thousands of people who lend a hand to help people who are new to the HTPC world in everything from setting up Meedio, to recommending hardware purchases, helping people recover from lost data, and even assisting new software developers in creating their first Meedio plugins. You won't find a more helpful group of people in the HTPC market. Try Meedio out and be sure to checkout the Forums! Did I mention there are over 200 third party plugins and themes to extend the functionality of this software? Simply the best! 5 stars (User friendly, flexible, and comprehensive) - Meedio is a comprehensive tool allowing everyone from the beginner to the expert to experience the "whole house media" revolution. The software is simple enough for newcomers to get started with just a few mouse clicks, yet it also offers sophisticated features aimed at those who want the power and flexibility to meet more demanding requirements. Finally we have a solution that is easy to use, powerful and flexible enough to create a system that meets our wants and needs, rather than a piece of software that is pretty on the outside but only offers a limited set of features! In addition to the full list of features available in Meedio Essentials, the software supports a comprehensive way to add custom functionality to the software. Through an active and healthy community of users and developers on the Meedio.com web site, the Meedio experience is enhanced beyond what competing products could even dream. 5 stars (Great product) - Meedio is the most customizable and powerful HTPC software I have come across. 5 stars (An excellent photo editor for beginners) - As a beginner in photo editing, I am frustrated with Adobe Photoshop 3.0. Then I tried to shop around and see what is there. I found this Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 . I bought it, and it worked beautifully. If layer and transparency in Photoshop are difficult, then in Digital Image, it is as easy as turning your palm up and down. I can put my family picture into a different background, and I can set the degree of transparency as I wish. The color editing tools are rich, and you can always and try and if you don't like it, you can undo the color change. I can remove an object from a picture by Smart Erase And if I'm not satisfied, I can do more with blending brush Overall, I am very very satisfied with MDI Suite 2006. It gives me a new hope amidst my frustration with photo editing software. And last but not least, the customer service is free 24 hours a day, and they are competent.
