4 stars (I was amazed what I could do with this product) - I have no background in graphics or art and the extent of my PC graphics experience stopped at MS Paint. I found myself in a situation where I needed some graphics done but didn't have budget to get them done professionally. So I purchased PSP and had a go. I was amazed at what I could produce in such a short period of time. Within a few hours I was applying fading effects to images and making montages out of several images. Very cool. I did find the product a challenge to use though. A big part of the problem was that I didn't know the terminology. I would think of an effect I wanted to do, like "fade", but wouldn't know the correct terminology to search for e.g. "mask". But if you are a little more patient than me (not hard) then this shouldn't be a problem. The help is pretty good but I found that more often I used some of the many PSP "how to" web sites out there. There are lots of good sites out there if you are in a hurry. The program also seems to be a bit slow to load but I'm not sure how this compares to other graphics programs. Overall, I'm very impressed with PSP and consider it a great bargain. 5 stars (PSP is great!) - I have never had the full version, but I have had a trial. I've also had a photoshop trial, but I find that psp is much faster to learn and is easier to use. With photoshop, however, I believe it is sometimes slow. I do think that paint shop pro is a great program to use than photoshop. Sure, photoshop has a few extra things psp doesn't, but some of you may not use it. so psp is the best program I can recommend. MSPaint is another great program, but you can always edit those images made on there in psp! :) 4 stars (Great program) - Love computers and love photography and this program is at a good price with some pretty high tech tools. It is amazing what can be done with an even average photograph. Now looking to go to a higher end Canon digital 20D because of the ... 5 stars (Painter Perfect) - In response to review rated at a "2": I am a professional graphic designer and so Painter along with so many other digital artistry programs such as the line to be found with Adobe, are a must have on my computer. And since I am the owner of my home-based business with little to no income most of the time because of the software costs...well, purchasing upgrades is not always something I can do. My point coming to this....you really need to evaluate your goals and desires before purchasing costly programs in the digital artistry field. I have yet to find great software that isn't expensive. And if you expect to find a fantastic manual with your software then 9 times out of 10 you'll never see it. Corel Painter, any version really, have all been fantastic and they continue to improve but if you're just starting out and your funds are limited or you are not a professional and you just want to play or have a side hobby then buy an older version, a used copy, or look for company specials, and save yourself some money. Painter is an awesome program and there are no two ways about it. My recommendation to you simply: If you are not a serious artist, you do it as a hobby, or maybe you are a student, then get an older version, a used copy, a company special or a student rate when you purchase your copy of painter. Next, don't expect anything from the manual you may or may not get depending on your purchase choice. Concentrate on buying a book later on that specializes in Painter. There are some terrific books out there from student to hobbiest to professional. If you are a professional then I don't need to tell you anything that you didn't already know. Painter is a fantastic program and coupled or grouped with other programs such as Photoshop, you can let your creativity soar. Last, don't bad mouth a product because of your own nievity. Dont' cry because Corel decided to create a program that was awesome and it didn't fit in with your budg... 3 stars (Takes a while, but you can use cheaper batteries) - I used to have a charger that worked on alkaline batteries (the regular kind rather than the "rechargable" kind) - and it was great. This one takes about 3 days to charge the batteries, and sometimes it can't charge all of them all the way. But since regular alkaline batteries are easier to find and cheaper also, it helps me out with that. 1 stars (Corel Review) - This product is terrible. This was an upgrade, it messed up some of my existing files and I contacted tech help on line. Everything they told me to do made the situation worse. I uninstalled the product. 1 stars (One Version, One Computer) - That (the subject line above) is what I received from Corel Customer Service (800-772-6735) after a 20 minute "hold" wait as an answer to my question: how many computers am I able to load Wordperfect on if I buy this software. Answer, bluntly, is ONE. MS Word, Student Teacher edition, allows THREE computers to load and register the software (price per installation cheaper with MS Word!). With the compatibility of Word 2003 for soooo many side products and apps (eg Dragon Naturally Speaking, many organizational/scheduling apps, etc), I frankly--although I champion the underdog in general--cannot see how Corel can survive as a company. Even their customer service is poor. Beware if you buy this software; expensive and likely you colleagues and friends with MS Word won;t even be able to open your documents. ... 1 stars (Word is much better!) - Due to my laptop crashing I had to use a rental computer to finish my novel by the deadline. I've used word to write 3 books, magazine articles and numerous academic papers and I've always found it easy to use and understand. Wordperfect is a complete pain, the help file is useless and the text often overlaps and looks like it is a typo which makes editing on the screen a nightmare. It was impossible to instructions of formatting a document for double spacing in the help menu (it only tells you that book reports should be double spaced, but doesn't tell you how to make it do it). I will be glad to get my laptop back and go back to work in Word. 1 stars (could not reliably loads jpegs) - I upgraded from version 8 to version 12 because I could not reliably load jpeg format pictures in v. 8. All jpegs were created using Photoshop 7 but only some random subset of them will load into Wordperfect. I have the same problem with v 12. (Microsoft Word takes all jpegs with no problems.) The same problem exists whether using Windows 98 or Windows 2000 professional so it is not likely the OS. This product is of no use to me; I have again wasted $150 on Corel Wordperfect. However this was their last chance with me. I guess, long live the Microsoft monopoly. 5 stars (The better word processing program) - I don't have much use for anything in the suite except WordPerfect. I've been using WordPerfect since before Windows, when it had a blue or a green screen, displayed mostly ASCII characters, there were no fonts except courier, and laser printers cost a small fortune. I work for a number of attorneys -- WordPerfect is the software of choice for wordprocessing in most offices I've worked in because, in my opinion, it is the better product for the job. It may also be because WordPerfect has been around for so long that everyone just migrated without changing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! When WordPerfect came out, it took over the mar... 5 stars (CorelDraw Graphics Suite 12) - This is an excellent graphics program which suits my needs well. 5 stars (True Graphic Creation Power) - I've used them all: Illustrator, Corel, Photoshop, Fireworks, MS Word (I know, I know..) Pagemaker; now Indesign. Since the 386 processor i've used these programs. Corel Draw has ALWAYS been easier to use. Yes they ALL have powerful features but for me, Corel Draw has been the vector based graphic program that I like and count on. I primarily use Corel Draw 12 and Photoshop CS. With these two programs you can do everything short of 3D animation. Theres is no easier way to create a poster or a flyer or a newsletter than Corel Draw! This program is awesome because it is powerful AND easy to use! My recommendation: Get Corel 12 and Photoshop CS. You'll thank me! 2 stars (Very bad crash issues and instability problems) - I've been using CorelDRAW and PPT since version 4, and I must say that the latest version, whether it be because of the patch or not, is widly unstable. For instance, 5 minutes ago I threw together a texture for a 3D model I'd been working on and as soon as I switched to the "Brush" swatch, crashed. The App Recovery Wizard doesn't even work correctly. It hangs and says the same thing each time. This crash happens often, reguardless of the operation you are doing and only seems to target certain machine setups. 1 stars (Does not work with Photoshop CS or CS2) - Knockout 2 does not work with Photoshop CS or CS2. Before purchasing, I called Corel and was assured by pre-sales staff that it would work. When I called tech support after trying to use Knockout on my computer, I was told that they do not even have a current version of Photoshop to test with. Tech support suggested deleting my Photoshop prefs, which did not solve the problem. They were unwilling to provide further support. Stay away from this product, which has not been updated in years and seems to be in a very long EOL phase. No current updates or tech support bulletins at Corel's website. Stay away. Avoid. Do not buy. 2 stars (Pretty lame software, not what I had in mind) - I maintain an online retail catalog. I often take my own photos of the products. I needed image editing software that could isolate objects from their background, so that I could replace the background with something snazzy and showcase the product more professionally. This software sounded like the answer to my dreams. To listen to their propaganda, this is the simplest, most advanced solution to that "Holy Grail" of image editing tasks--cleanly removing main objects from their original settings. The trouble is, this is a pretty cumbersome, ineffective, and even "unintelligent" program. You go through the correct motions, after slogging through the woefully inadequate online tutorial and manual, and the darn thing fairly butchers the mask/isolate process; it chops up the foreground object as if it had no clue about how to distingush white pixels from light gray. And I am using a high-end graphics tablet with a pen and skirting the edges of the image objects using Knock Out's magnify tool, with surgical precision. The bottom line: the results are poor, and I have better luck simply using the "magnetic lasso" tool that comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements, and even conventional "paint bucket" and "paint brush" tools, combined with a steady ... 5 stars (Paint shop 9) - Excellent service. Very well pleased. Quick shipment. Product in great shape. Thanks, Debbie 5 stars (Paint Shop Pro RULES!) - Hi, my internet nickname is StoryMaker and you can call me that. Anyways, PSP9 RULES! I saw on lots of websites "I've edited this with Paint Shop Pro!" and such. I wanted PSP. One christmas I got PSP. It has lots of different brushes and there's tons of cool effects! I still use Paint (the picture editing program that comes with Windows) a lot, but when it's time for some fun, it's time for Paint Shop Pro! (And it's VERY fun!) It even comes with Animation Shop 3 so you can make cool animations and even mini movies! I recommend buying it! Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!" 5 stars (Excellent for (most) photography work) - I use this exclusively for photography. I have found it to be MUCH faster that Photoshop for EVERY photo manipulation I have ever tried. Much easier to learn than Photoshop. In my view, Photoshop is more of a tool for graphic designers, and not for photographers. Not to say you can't do graphic design with Paint Shop, I just don't use it for that. The only drawbacks I have found for digital photography work are: 1. Does not support 16 bit images (necessary for the highest commercial, advertising quality photo work) 2. Does not support A FEW select photography Plug-Ins that are available only for Photoshop. However, MOST plug ins will work with it, and the few that don't have comparable competitors that do work in Paint SHop. I love this program, and have now removed Photoshop from my computer for the sake of simplicity keeping only Paint Shop. Hopefully subsequent versions WILL support 16 bit images which is currently the only real drawback to this fine software product. ... 5 stars (Plugins to die for!) - This is a wonderful collection of 24 plugins for graphics programs such as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. My favourites are KPT Fibre Optix and KPT Hyper Tiling, but they are all fun to play with. The interface is quite complex, beautifully designed and very different from other computer programs to look at. Each function comes in a floating window which you can move to anywhere within the dialogue box that suits you, and the functions are accessed via drop down menus in the floating windows. Each window can save presets and there is in addition a preset button which allows you to access the overall presets for the relevant plugin. A full PDF file manual is included on the disk and it's a good idea to read it. Each plugin is a computer program in itself and can be used to create many different effects. I love the spray brush in the Gel plugin which creates a bubble effect when dragged across the image! I had wanted this set of plugins for some time before I took the plunge and purchased, and I have not been disappointed. It's well worth the money. 5 stars (Filter Mania) - Great plug-in for PhotoShop. There are 24 filters to work with. The effects ranged from very outlandish like the Goo filter to the world of Frax 4D. There were many subtleties in some of the filters that took a little while to figure out. Some of the effects distorted the original photo to the point that you could not honestly say what it was which in some cases was pretty spectacular. You could take simple objects like a colored circle and make some very awesome designs. You could create a whole world of effects just using the filters and something simple or you could subtly or greatly alter a picture. The sliders weren't quite as responsive for minute tweaks so I would just click on the numbers in the white control panel and type in what I wanted. Each filter came with a set of presets that you could expand upon. You could create your own preset then save... 1 stars (Essentially a Waste of Money) - I was a regular user of CorelDraw 8 for Windows 98 on my older computer. When I bought a new machine, Draw 8 would not work with Windows XP, so I needed a newer program to access and edit my .cdr files. I called Corel Corp. in Canada who assured me that Essentials contained basically everything in CorelDraw 11 (and therefore my version 8). After receiving the program, I found it to be a severely stripped down program, missing most of the essential components of the earlier programs. It is really frustrating when so many of the useful features are "grayed out" or just plain missing. Save your money and avoid this one. 5 stars (Good for less) - A very good alternative to the complete software package. This slim version is more than enough for home and small office needs: labels, brochures and other printing material. 2 stars (What Gives! The Original Essentials Version is better than version 2 ) - I have been using Corel Essentials, the white with horizontal blue green box (original version) for quite some time, I decide to upgrade to the "newest version 2". So, I fork out $80 plus shipping. Got it 5 days later; I installed the software, all looks good... then I start using it, standard features from version one are GONE! There are no upgrade gimmicks or download this or that, they were just simply removed - my most used features! Unacceptable, I contacted customer support, they were very polite and helpful but recommended for my imaging needs to regress to Corel Essentials, the Original software I had as the new "one omits many features" the second version just does not cut it. I am just bit dissapointed in the company but though (and give credit where is due) Corel Essentials is so far the Best I have used so I can and wont beat them up too much in their effort to sell less in a "new & not much improved" new box. (every corporation does this - from cereal to soap) My advise, stick with the original Essentials versio... 4 stars (COREL DID NOT DISAPPOINT USERS WITH THIS PAINT SHOP PRO X) - Many heads, (including mine), turned in dismay when Corel acquired Paint Shop Pro from Jasc. And although some sad changes have been made, Corel still receives my kudos for keeping this software on the esteemed realm where it belongs. The first two things previous Paint Shop Pro users will notice in this edition is that it spots a new interface, and has gotten significantly faster. Though, this increment falls short of the 50% speed increase, which Corel proudly advertizes. Also, this acclaimed speed came at a price: the software's recommended hardware requirements almost doubled as a result. And, unless you are running a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 equivalent processor or faster, with an absolute minimum of one full gigabyte of RAM to swing it around, you may not even notice this so-called 50% speed increase. Again, Corel's near-complete overhaul of the more familiar user-interface, (which Jasc endeavored to maintain in the earlier editions), means that even well-established users have some new lessons to learn now. For a complete new user, there is absolute nothing to fear. The learning curve for this software is not steep at all. And unless you are already familiar with Adobe's interface, you will discover that this software is much easier to learn when compared to either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. It is as well much more powerful and more robust than the Photoshop Elements. In fact, amongst all the photo-editing suites currently on sale, only the main Adobe Photoshop can defeat this software in a supremacy battle. But do remember that Adobe's outrageously over-valued Photoshop costs approximately twelve times of what Paint Shop Pro costs; despite the fact that Paint Shop Pro can do more than 90% of what it does. This may explain the reason why some newly graduated professionals, (who either could not afford the high price of Adobe Photoshop, or just want to keep down their own operational costs), p...
