Roxio Easy CD - DVD Burning

1 stars (Not good with XP) - Installing this program on a computer running Windows XP a HUGE problem. After installing Window gives the message that the software will cause Windows to become unstable, and that Windows prevented the drivers from loading. Then sends you to Roxio website for patch. The patch did not work, and their support service provides a resolution that involves editing your computer's Registry, a task I do not want to attempt. By the way, the only way you can speak to a live person is to pay $35 per hour, more than I paid for the program itself. Totally frustrating software for XP. 5 stars (Just right -- if you want simple & unadorned CD/DVD functions) - I've seen the reviews by others, and concur that the software lacks the bells and whistles of the newer full Roxio product (ver 7). BUT ... if you're looking for some simple features that don't hog a lot of drive space or CPU cycles, this earlier product (ver 6) fits the bill. I've been looking for a simple packet-writing program to drag-and-drop files for archiving or transfer between systems [your old floppy 'sneakernet'], and it's just right for that simple task. Window's XP file transfer is just miserable, as it treats a document like graphics material, storing it to disk, then writing track-by-track with balloons and other distractions. This package lets you format and write/delete to RW discs without hassle. Better yet, in "Custom" installation you can pick and choose the functions you need, and forget about the fancy 'Control Center'. For my simple needs it works like a charm at minimal cost. 1 stars (Lost this gamble! 5 stars (music maker rocks) - i havent had music maker all that long but from what ive seen from it so far it really is quite impressive. As far as ease of use is concerned, most functions can be mastered in just a few minutes without having to resort to the index/help files. The large selection of synths and conversion options (mp3, ogg etc.) really make it worth the 30 dollars i paid for it. i thoroughly recommend it. 1 stars (buyer BEWARE!) - The one thing that has not been mentioned in any of these reviews is the license for this product. This software cannot be used for commercial use without permission from one of their "duly authorized representatives". I'm not sure, but I bet this is a costly proposition. So if you want this product for an amusing game, it's fine. If you want to use it for music that you plan to sell, even if you are including your own playing on it, avoid it. If you think that making loops of your own playing will let you off the hook, no, it won't. The license includes anything made with the software, so even if you want to sell your own music, PLAYED BY YOU, you have to talk to one of their representatives. If they give you permission to sell your OWN work, you still have to put their logo on it, which says, "Magix Creation". How nice...... 5 stars (The ultimate media creating software!!!) - Whether you are looking to create, mix or just edit this program has it all. I haven't seen anything out there that can beat music maker 2005. I have try to edit with other programs, but nothing has the options magix offers. Hands down ACID PRO will never touch magix. Audio, video, slideshows, you name it Magix has what you need. If you are familiar with the 2004 version, there's more with 2005. The vocoder and guitar are amazing. Singing Coach

5 stars (Great Fun and Helpful Product) - I thought this was a really solid piece of software. It taught me alot of things that I needed to know about singing. I am not a professional and could not afford vocal lessons so this really was a HUGE help. The ability to sing a wide range of songs made it even more useful. Being able to see my pitch helped teach me what types of songs are good for me to sing. From what I have seen so far the music library is growing every week with better and better songs. If they keep adding songs like this there really is no limit what I can do with the software. 3 stars (Good for the beginner, but not much more.) - This program has quirky characters that teach you the basics of singing, such as breathing, posture and warm ups. Being able to see what pitch you are hitting helps a lot to strengthen the beginning singer. The reason I gave this only 3 stars, however, is that once you are done with the basics, the only thing that the program can give you is you pitch history while singing one of the songs. While this is a useful information, there isn't a wide enough varity in songs to make using this feature terribly fun and there aren't lessons to encourage you to work through the songs in a specific order. I was also quite disappointed with their online song library. This version comes with 4 free songs to down load from their song library, and I only found two that I was even willing to sing and have a vague liking for. None of my favorite songs were there. The lists of songs were quite small. They also, beyond the 4 free songs, want to charge what I think is an outragous charge per song. Get this if you are a rank beginner or need help with your pitch and are happy practicing on public domain folk songs. eMedia Rock Guitar Method

5 stars (Quick start for beginning guitarist) - I found this to be a very good teaching tool to learn to play rock style music. I have never played the guitar before only the violin for eight years while in school. Now I am in my thirties and thought it would be too difficult to learn to play. I have been through the first four lessons and so far it is great. I can work at my own pace, repeat sections I find difficult and play actual songs with lyrics. It is great to play real music not just practice the chords and riffs (although practice is required, it is just more fun). Great piece of sofware. I combined this with a couple of books to study when not at the computer and this worked great for me. Great job eMedia. I look forwrard to additional eMedia song books for rock music. 4 stars (Great so far!) - Though I've odered many times with Amazon, this is the first time I have been excited enough to review a product! I'm an adult who wants to learn guitar for fun and didn't want to play "Mary had a little lamb" and scales for months. I have only used the software for about an hour, and have already been playing parts of songs I actually like! I have been playing guitar for a total of one week prior to receiving this (without any instruction).This is perfect if you don't have the patience or desire to learn the traditional way. I wish I had this when I was 14, I would have loved it. I can't vouch for the whole thing yet, since I've only played with it for an hour, so I give it 4 stars instead of five. 5 stars (Great. Simple and easy to use.) - I wanted a simple full featured recording program that would rival Garageband and this is it. No complaints. Well worth the excellent price. 5 stars (I think this thing is AMAZING (But I'm a novice at this)!!!) - I can't believe there are NO reviews for this thing (as I write this)! I wanted this in mainly order to re-mix my favorite songs. I got pretty excited reading the box, and more excited when it arrived. I installed it and started running it and all of the sudden I found myself thinking "uh-oh, this is wayyyy over my head." But, like many programs, all you have to do is just start experimenting and playing around with it, and in no time, you will get the idea. The versatility this allows you to have with so many aspects of any track you import is incredible (and NO, I am not on Sony's payroll). The software comes with an honest-to-goodness, spiral-bound, hard-copy MANUAL! How rare these days! So you can be like me and take it to work to read on your breaks and then race home to try out the new techniques you read up on. The interface also has a "How Do I...?" button that covers a lot of varied functions, and it has a great, integrated, step-by-step approach that actually *teaches* you AS you do it. A great "hands-on" approach. I just can't begin to say how impressed I am at it's comprehensiveness and design. I sat with it for about 2 hours to do my first (serious) 4-minute-song re-mix, but when I was finished, I had a great track - all burned to inkjet-printed disc, and ready to give to my wife (it was one of her favorite songs). I like any software that actually allows me to *accomplish* something I really want to do, and this software did exactly that! Unless you're a super-techie who would stick his nose up at anything that runs with less than a $500 price tag, I think you'll be happy with this. I guess I should mention for those that want to *create* music from loops and so forth, it's still just as versatil...

5 stars (Guitarport is not perfect, but great for what it is) - Reading some of these reviews reveals to me how uneducated some folks are when writing reviews. I've had Guitarport for almost 2 years and it's the best bang for my buck purchase I've ever made on musical equipment! I am a novice-to-intermediate player (learning on and off for 10 years). This thing is not for advanced gigging musicians. If you are that advanced, then you won't like the sounds as much. They are a simulation of the real thing, not the real thing. But it's close enough for me. Anyone who is a beginner and want's to learn, this is a fabulous piece of equipment. It's way cheaper than buying amp(s), effects, and microphones. It's great for people like me who aren't experts at tweaking and tuning and amp for a particular sound. Load it up or set one and save it. You can get a wide variety of sounds from it and you can experiment with different effects without spending the cash. I like the headphone use too. For recording - it's not really designed for it, but you can do it with other software/equipment. It's flexible and upgradeable. I like the tuner, metronome, noise gate and the ability to save sound settings to use again later. You can add a midi controller pedal and control the wah and volume effects, as well as, trigger changes in amps, effects, etc. Add software and you can record music. Riffworks is supposed to be an easy to use guitar-centered recording software package. It's for laying down ideas, not putting out masterpieces. And it's $99 for crying out loud! How many guitar effects do you see out there for less that does so much?!? Guitarport Online - I think it's great for the beginner/intermediate player who want to learn more. 5 stars (A thorough approach to learning piano keyboard) - After searching for some time for a good piano tutorial software I ended up at Best Buy and, almost by accident, came across Interactive Keyboard written by Laurie Arthur. As a disclaimer, I am in no way tied to the promoter or the promotion of this product. My previous exposure to piano was limited to a group piano course at a junior college and some self-training, specifically with the old Miracle Piano Teaching System which is now obsolete. I have been working with the program for a few days now and I believe I am developing solid technique beyond my prior education. The initial setup was tricky (program loaded fine on Windows '98SE but I needed a MIDI in/out cable-to-USB to hook up my antiquated Kawai KC10 Spectra synthesizer in addition to having to download a driver for the cable hookup, although any modern keyboard should adapt just fine) but once I got rolling I found the program both intuitive and fun. The software package comes with a 222 page manual that is simply loaded with valuable information on technique, music theory, improvisational methods, proper form and exercises, and a host of other information, as well as "Fifty Famous Feels"; a variety of samples of music in different styles one can playback and with which one can play along. The program seems geared toward the adult learner who is intent on getting a grasp of the piano in an accelerated fashion, though a bright child with some keyboard skills could benefit as well. From the beginning, the program sets out what is required of the student and provides ample exercises at increasingly difficult levels, along with a "Comp-u-Pare" facility that enables one to record the recital of exercises (with or without the accompanying backtrack/rhythm) and test her/his skills and abilities. eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method Volume 1

5 stars (Great product) - I was completely new to music when I bought this set (CD-ROM and keyboard). I think it is great. It walks you through the basics and when you start playing the music has numbers on it that match up to your fingers (1-5) so you can play as you get the hang of reading music. Gradually they remove some of the numbers so your music reading skills improve. The software grades your playing with a percentage score, and gives you details on your errors (if you want them). Also, it includes short videos of a person playing piano so you can see proper posture and such. Each song comes with (optional) accompaniment, which can make it funner to play (especially with the simple songs). The keyboard that comes with it (optional) has a solid feel, and is touch-sensitive (pressing harder plays louder). The keyboard plugs into the joystick port (probably on your sound card). 5 stars (quality product) - I got this product yesterday and started to learn by it. after browsing it and using it for the first 17 lessons this is my impression. what you get in this product is 100% of quality content and less emphasize on look and graphics. and if you want to learn playing the keyboard, so the quality of the teaching is more important then other features. the teacher leading the instruction process using video clips and audio tracks, is Irma Justicia MA which is a experienced piano teacher. after 17 lessons i fell in love with her .it feels just lilke i'm in a real lesson with her. for my non proffesinal impression this product is good for absolute beginners to the intermediate level. it is also said on the product that it is volume 1 so probably they are going to issue more products in this piano keyboard line just as they done with the guitar. cause of the simplicity of the graphics you can use it on any computer,old and new. but still you get many sophisticated features like interactive feedback using midi cable. for summary ...GOOD WORK. ...

eMedia GuitarPort RiffTracker

4 stars (Very good, but beware of installation) - This Guitarport-Rifftracker setup is a really elegant piece of work. The Guitarport element lets the guitarist emulate a near infinite number of sounds produced by pre-amps and some of the most popular guitar amps and cabinets produced over the last 50 or so years, not to mention the tweaking you can achieve with the virtual preamp and effect settings. The Rifftracker element of the package offers basically a full service recording studio that ties into the Guitarport applications. You can even do rhythm tracks with simulated percussion. The integration of both halves of this package is one of its strong points, as anyone who has tried to mix and match recording sofware with another application that does what Guitarport does can attest. But you might have problems installing the software, as I did with Windows XP. After going through the installation process with no problems, after rebooting the system Windows didn't recognize the new hardware (Guitarport). Windows posted the pop-up window that mentioned this, and a telltale sign was that the green light on the Guitarport hardware, connected to the USB port, didn't light up, remaining red. If this happens to you, things that Guitarport will suggest will be to (1) unplug and replug the USB cable, (2) reboot the computer, (3)reinstall the software. After trying all these, I found nothing worked. So here's what to do: keep the installation disk in the CD drive, reboot the computer, and when Windows indicates that it has found new hardware, click on the option to have it search for installation software, and direct it to the CD drive. Once you do this, some residual software will hopefully load, and you can continue with the registration and initiation process for the package. After that, things should work normally. Like I said, this is a really elegant package that every guitar player will enjoy. ...

2 stars (An appended review....) - To be honest, I had previously written a scathing review of this product. I have decided in the light of recent events to append it. I am giving this prog 4 stars,(unfortunately, the ranking can't be changed in an appended review).If your soundcard has both WDM and ASIO drivers, this software will automatically detect the WMD's, resulting in latency probs. Manually connecting to the ASIO drivers within the program solves the problem, thus the appended review. The dxi soft synths in this prog are quite lame, and the sounds rather poor. However, it get's high marks for it's combination of low price and a very full featured loopintg and recording system. It also has great plugin flexibility. For what you pay for it, it's a sweet little program. It only get's 4 stars due to it's lack of decent soft synths, but beyond that, an excellent prog. ...

Tune Transfer for iPod

1 stars (Freeware will do the same thing -- don't waste your money on this) - The issue at hand is not really being able to copy the files from the ipod to another computer, it is to reconstruct the internal table of contents so that anything else besides the ipod and authorized computer knows what these files are! There are excellent freeware and shareware programs that can do the same thing! I use CopyPod and love it. Don't waste your money on this! 1 stars (No thank you) - Get the computer on a network, and transfer music to multiple computers for 0 Dollars and 0 Cents 5 stars (Extremely useful) - I had an old HP with about 15 gigs of music on it that needed to be taken behind the barn and shot and, when I replaced it, I needed to find a way to get all my music to a new machine. The most common answer I got was to do it manually with a stack of blank CD's, but unfortunately that would have taken several hours, if not several days, in addition to $50+. However, with this product I was able, within 15 minutes, to get every single song onto my new computer using my iPod, a very welcome relief. The interface is extremely easy to use, and, with a good computer, the program works very quickly and efficiently. I highly recommend this product to anyone who needs to replace a computer with a great deal of music on it (as I did) or anyone who loses all of their music files on their current machine. Though someone commented that there is a great deal of free downloadable software available to do the same task, I personally feel safer with a CD-ROM product, which guarantees that you will be safe from any viruses or other nasty items that could potentially come with downloaded software. ...
