5 stars (Simply the best software available for presenting your media collection) - I've been a Meedio Essentials user since the early beta days and it really is amazing the amount of power this software has. The developers really listen to their customers wants/needs and implement those features in new releases. The best part about Meedio is the helpful community. There are thousands of people who lend a hand to help people who are new to the HTPC world in everything from setting up Meedio, to recommending hardware purchases, helping people recover from lost data, and even assisting new software developers in creating their first Meedio plugins. You won't find a more helpful group of people in the HTPC market. Try Meedio out and be sure to checkout the Forums! Did I mention there are over 200 third party plugins and themes to extend the functionality of this software? Simply the best! 5 stars (User friendly, flexible, and comprehensive) - Meedio is a comprehensive tool allowing everyone from the beginner to the expert to experience the "whole house media" revolution. The software is simple enough for newcomers to get started with just a few mouse clicks, yet it also offers sophisticated features aimed at those who want the power and flexibility to meet more demanding requirements. Finally we have a solution that is easy to use, powerful and flexible enough to create a system that meets our wants and needs, rather than a piece of software that is pretty on the outside but only offers a limited set of features! In addition to the full list of features available in Meedio Essentials, the software supports a comprehensive way to add custom functionality to the software. Through an active and healthy community of users and developers on the Meedio.com web site, the Meedio experience is enhanced beyond what competing products could even dream. 5 stars (Great product) - Meedio is the most customizable and powerful HTPC software I have come across. 4 stars (Not for the casual hobbiest) - Poser is hard. Extremely hard. The manual that comes with the software is poorly written and virtually useless. I recommend the VHS "POSER 5 Demystified", which is relevant to Poser 6 as well. This will help get you started. But even with this, Poser, like all 3D animation programs, is going to require quite a commitment from you. Its VERY TIME CONSUMING. There's just no way around it. Even after you've figured out how to use the software (it took me 6 months of trial and error...and I'm certainly no expert), it can easily take you 8-10 hours to produce a 5 second animation. The problem is that no one can show you "how" to make an animation with Poser. They can only show you how the various tools work (which, as I stated before, the manual fails miserably at). You're going to have to decide what you want to see on the screen, and figure out how to use the software to make that a reality. Example: there are 3 different methods you can use to animate, which give you wildly different results. While the manual tells you what these are and identifies the controls for each, it doesn't tell you which to use and under what circumstances to use them. You're going to have to figure it out on your own. I literally thought the software was broken for the 1st 6 months, because the figures kept moving in unexpected ways. Actually, the software was behaving exactly the way it was supposed to. I understand now that its an asset rather than a liability, because once you learn what you're doing, Poser can add a level of realism that is sorely lacking from a lot of other 3d animation programs. So what do I think of Poser 6? Its amazing. Simply amazing. I would give it 5 stars, except for the crappy manual that comes with it. Curious Labs should design a manual like "The Art of Animation Master", which was brilliantly tailored for the beginner. The downside: content. If you plan on making a contemporary film, this is not a problem. But if... 5 stars (One of the lucky ones) - This product and the stand alone software version have received a lot of flak in these reviews. I have not had any problems and have found the software to be extremely easy to use. I used to use Sonic's MyDVD and I had created about 10 DVDs with it. I was very unhappy with MyDVD as it constantly crashed and spit out error messages that aren't listed in Sonic's Knowledge Base. I bought Studio 9 on the PC World recommendation and it was great. My first project was to edit and burn over 1 Gig of MPEGs from a trip to Disney World. MyDVD crashed anytime I tried to make a DVD with these files. Studio 9 burned it in about 3 hours, which is far less time than MyDVD takes for a similar size project. Clearly lots of people have issues with this product based on the reviews, but I just needed to put in my two cents that it is awesome. 3 stars (Alright I guess) - I heard the reviews about this product and I still bought it because PC MAGAZINE said it was good. I bought it and it does what it says. The only thing is that when you transfer a VHS tape to DVD it takes forever to render and burn. It must take at least 4 hours for it to render/read and burn. Too long is you ask me! 1 stars (Don't buy this product) - The specs for Pinncale Studio Plus are impresive but despite hours of trying I could never get the software to successfully complete a movie. The program hangs after 5 - 15 min of rendering, regardless of what I am trying to create (DVD, AVI, MPEG, etc.) This is a fatal flaw. The included trouble shooting guide even admints this is a potential problem and basically say to keep reinstalling the program and trying different settings. This should make one nervous. There are any number of other video capture/creating solutions out there to choose from, choose something else. ... 5 stars (Best Photo Editor) - I believe I have gone through every Photo Editor Trial out there, and this is by far the best. Yes even better than great and glorious photoshop. why? cause it's user friendly. you dont have to be a technical geek. im not one of them, and i could figure out how to use all the tools before i lost my creativity. and for fifty something dollars! this is truly worth the buy. if only i had the money, hahaha. on a more personal note, this program allowed me to do some art that saved my life really it did. so i guess this is a thanks to ulead, your 30 day trial saved my life, and helped my imagination run free. 4 stars (Flexible works at all levels) - This is a interesting software package to work with. You can obtain very good results with little knowledge with the single 'autofi'x button to choose from the multitude of preset buttons for creating lots of standard corrections and effects. The software is even capable of changing the 'look' of the preset buttons to a 'preview' of the change to your photograph. The presets are a scripts of various individual tools. You can create your own scripts, combining tools in any order you wish. You can also work with each tool independently either with presets for that specific tool or by using the controls to create your own degree of effect. Almost every tool, allows you to see simultaneous before and after views of the change or split screen before and after combination of the photograph being changed. You can also apply any effect as a 'preview' and can undo any tool, script to any level. I particularly like the choice of selection tools. Besides the standard selection by color, you can choose with several different methods/tools. They have a smart extraction tool that lets you paint a broad outline of the area(s) you want to select and the software does the dirty work (provided there is enough contrast/color difference) to give you a fine division between the subjects. The video shows them selec... 5 stars (For the price...an absolute must) - I have to admit I was snobbish when Motion first came out. As a intermediate After Effects user, I thought, for instance, that using pre-assigned "behaviors" would look canned and amaturish (sort of like the seeing effects you know were done in imovie). But with each new project, I find myself relying more and more on Motion. For one thing, it's fast. Some people gripe that the real-time architecture is not perfect, but I can tell you that with a G4 powerbook (1.5 GHz and 1gig RAM) the difference between in speed using Motion over AE is phenominal. One of the major benefits is that you can audtion filters and behaviors on your content with virtually no wait time. Moreover, if you are using sound or music, that needs to be synched to your graphics, the playback is dramatically faster than in AE. I have chosen to use motion for simpler graphic projects (text, titling, colorizing) simply because of the vast amount of time I save not having to render everytime I tweak (and I tweak a lot). Of course, Motion as Apple readily admits, is not a substitue for After Effects when it comes to high end animation. There are no light or camera tools, and using no abilty to script (as AE does with "Expressions"). But I predict Apple will get more ambitious with each generation. Motion 2 for instance, offers the "replicator" tool, which I plan to use as a fast alternative to basic scripting. The bottom line is that for $300 this is a amazing piece of software. It is also a great way to get started with motion graphics and actually get pretty far. It is far more easy and ituitive that AE, but, ultimately, if you are an aspiring motion graphic designer, you must master After Effects as it is still the industry standard. ... 4 stars (amazing modeling program) - I've barely scratched the surface with Poser 5. I've been using Poser since the first version, and each new release is more full of features than the last. The models and posing abilities of versions 1, 2 and 3 had a variety of flaws, but starting with version 4, Poser has turned into an extremely useful program for anyone who wants to do rendering with the human figure. I gather that some people use Poser to produce final products. I can swear that some of those airline seat information cards use Poser models. I tend to use Poser the way one uses a figure reference guide, to figure out how the bodies are structured, and how perspective works with them. Poser 5 has a nice set of human models, male and female. It also has a few animals. The latest version is so chock full of features that it is hard to figure out where to begin. Let's see. There are the new models, the split screen multi-way posing window, the face and body morphing features, a bigger than ever pose library with full body, hand, face and lip poses. These libraries can save a lot of work. The morphing features let you start with their "standard" model and change the body type or facial features by sort of blending the base model with an exagerated model in three dimensions. The lip poses let you do lip synching movies based on phonemes. Two new features I have started exploring include dynamic cloth and dynamic hair. Poser 5 actually solves the differential equations for draping cloth and moving hair. Apparently, you can dump in any 3D model to use as a clothing model. You "clothify" it and constrain it with respect to the body where you wish, for example, at the waist. Then you can turn on the air currents and set the figure in motion. Play back the animation, and the clothing swoops and drapes. The hair is similar. You set up hair growth models and the hair interacts with the body, with air currents, with gravity and with itself. The model can run like a p... 4 stars (WOW is all I can say!!!!) - The results of the pictures in poser artist is perfectly astounding!!! It is quite difficult, but as long as you have a manual along side you, you can create pictures that look professional!!! It is my FAVORITE art program (and I've tried ALOT, belive me)! I got it for Christmas, and yes I am younger than the appropiate age for this program, but my dad and mom help me TONS! It does have it's kinks-which is why I left out a star-and takes alot of space on my dad's hard drive, and takes FOREVER to install. So the content is GREAT, but be ready to have to spend a bit of time staring at that dumb little blue bar inch along the screen! ... 3 stars (HOW DO I BURN A 2-HOUR DVD?) - The software seems terrific, despite the steep learning curve. BUT HOW DO I BURN A 2-HOUR DVD? I am using Adobe Preimere and Adobe Encore 1.5. I made a 73 minute video that practically took up an entire DVD. I just tried to make a video that runs 1 hour, 45 minutes, and the program tells me that I have exceeded disk capacity. Is Encore capable of burning a two-hour video onto DVD as do even cheaper programs? Or am I doing something wrong? Am I making my files two large? Can anyone help me? I would welcome any feedback or corrections. - JV - (...) 5 stars (Encore is Great even for Beginners) - I found that Encore was easy to use for someone who didn't know how to author or even create DVDs or menus. It worked very well with the other Adobe applications such as Photoshop and Premiere Pro. I even was able to make some great looking DVDs with Encore (with the help of www.motionism.com dvd templates) 5 stars (Needs good hardware to work as it should.) - Yet again, Adobe have made available a professional product at consumer prices. The only problem is that consumer class PCs are not up to the task. Anyone using a PC for any video production is recommended to enhance their hardware by installing a couple of IDE or SATA hard drives in a RAID array, as a primary media drive, and also install another hard drive to export their DVD productions onto. A gig or two gig of good quality RAM is also recommended, as is the use of Windows XP Pro with all drives and partitions formatted as NTFS. In addition, be sure to frequently defrag the media drives, and delete any unneeded files, as this will also help with production quality, and avoid your drives filling up too soon :-) As to Encore itself, it has everything reasonably required to make sophisticated DVDs - often too sophisticated - and is compatible with other Adobe authoring applications. ... 5 stars (This is great software -- for professional use.) - I have read the complaints about Pinnacle and I'll address this in two stages: the first being computer related and the second is the users themselves. The most common computer related issue is TURN OFF Norton Antivirus -- Pinnacle and Norton and not quite compatible. I don't know why, but this is from personal experience. However, I disconnect from the internet using my firewall so I have no distractions when I edit. Another commom computer problem is you have to have a lot of RAM memory. At least twice the recommended or a MINIMUM of 512 MB DDRAM and 10GB of hard disk space is very good. Also, use XP Pro or Linux or Mac when using this software -- you need a sturdy system with resources dedicated to video. The second area I will address is users themselves. Pinnacle is marketed to consumers, but it is most useful to small businesses (private studios, high end consumers, etc) who cannot afford full Avid systems. There are many features that are available that someone who is trained in editing will know how to use. For copying home movies from VHS to DVD there are other lower end software packages. But, if you want to really edit and cut and paste and add effects and you have a limited budget, this is the software to buy. 5 stars (This video capture / editing unit is great !!) - Being on a fairly tight budget, I researched the @% out of the various video capture / editing products that are "out there". I visited just about every website on the net that offers reviews on these products. Do I choose a system that uses an internal card, or not? What about the editing program that is bundled with the internal / external capture device? (We have several shoeboxes of 8mm video of our kids that we want to convert to digital, edit, then burn to dvd) The Pinnacle Studio 9 Moviebox (USB) system appealed to me because we have 3 computers on a wireless network (teenagers, you know!) and this machine would be...
