5 stars (Fleshes out the Bible) - No question the Old Testament is a great read, but face it, the original audience for this work is long dead and buried. Anderson's standard text on the world of the Old Testament is excellent in bringing the ancient world and the context for the collection that is the Old Testament to light. Reading the Bible without Anderson you get a story about some guy named Abram who took a walk one day and had some trouble with his new neighors. Reading it with Anderson, you get a deeper understanding of where Abraham came from, where he was headed, and how the belief of early Judahism developed through and in conflict with those of the neighboring Canaanites. The agrarian focused religion of the Canaanites get's it's own hearing as a people's attempt to make sense of the life around them. "Understanding the Old Testament" then provides this level of insight and background for all the other books of the Old Testament. How and why we now have the expression of the Jewish people's understanding of God gains more texuture and depth. 4 stars (Fascinating insights on ancient biblical events!) - An amazing, descriptive, objective, factual read about the beliefs, people and events that went on in ancient biblical times. Some great pictures too! I was captivated and fascinated! 3 stars (In depth survey following historico-critical methods) - Anderson uses easy to read sentences and aims his OT introduction at the lay person, but will be useful more to students and pastors because of the content. I was somewhat disappointed that he has nothing on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). R.K. Harrison's Intro to the OT is much more comprehensive, including discussion using both historico-critical methodology and conservative approaches, whereas Anderson assumes that the historico-critical method is the only way to go. Nevertheless, the information is readily accessible and easy to read, and illustrated well. ... 5 stars (Easy Spanish Phrase Book Better With Language Dynamics CDs) - I highly recommend Easy Spanish Phrase Book: Over 770 Basic Phrases for Everyday Use This book is so useful because it uses high frequency vocabulary and 770 phrases that anyone could successfully use anywhere in the Spanish speaking world.. Being a long-time user of Language Dynamics products including Speed Spanish and Behind the Wheel Spanish I have to agree with Amazon's recommendation that they're better with Easy Spanish Phrase Book. The categories are quite similar and this small book enhances the lessons learned on the spoken CD courses. At times, I even thought they were part of the same course. Since 'Over 770 Basic Phrases for Everyday Use' doesn't come with CDs, I recommend you use either Speed Spanish or Behind the Wheel Spanish so you can learn to pronounce the words correctly from a great native Spanish speaker. The two form the ideal combo for learning Spanish. 5 stars (Good Choice) - This book is an excellent way to learn important phrases that aren't easily transferable from English to Spanish. 5 stars (wow!) - Wow, This book is such a great value! I mean, If this book was priced at $12.99, it STILL would be a great value, but for $1.50, It's shocking. This book tell you how to speak basic spanish. The index is usefull incase you need to look up a certain word, for example '' window'', Just go to the index and they will give you a sentecnce and the word window in spanish. Great book and I recomend it to anyone who isn't very fluent in spanish and needs some help. This would be good for students who take spanish in school, it would be great with homework. I would suggest you buy this book before the price increases. ... 5 stars (Lean Six Sigma Pocket Toolbook) - This is a really good consolidation of the various methods available for approaching six sigma projects. It is an interesting book to browse and very useful if one is unsure about exactly which methodology or statistical test should be used in a given situation. Six sigma is mostly about applying a scientific methodology to improving processes and this book "cuts to the chase". 5 stars (Outstanding Quick Reference Guide) - This pocket toolbook hits the "sweet spot" as a quick reference guide for lean six sigma practitioners. Don't expect this to be an in-depth treatment of the 70+ tools covered in this book. If you're new to the lean/six sigma disciplines, you need to start someplace else. However, if you are currently working in these disciplines and you need a reference with enough meat to remind you of how/why/when a particular tool should be used and also a little of the statistical foundations supporting the tool, then you will find this to be a very valuable book to own. I own just about all of the "pocket guides" and I often find them to be a little too cryptic and abbreviated to meet my needs. This book is a very nice middle ground between the often complex and verbose "learning textbooks" and the often times overly brief pocket guides. As with any first edition, there are some errors that slipped through the editing process, but I can still highly recommend this book as one to keep handy when your out there fighting those "quality and productivity" battles. ...
