4 stars (Norton Antivirus purchase) - I like the product. But Norton Antivirus, Symantec did not except my rebate offer and indicated my original receipt which was an Amazon receipt was not valid. I will not purchase from Symantec again. 5 stars (No problems) - I don't understand the amount of negative feedbacks out there, but it seems there are a lot of Symantec/Norton bashers, yet Symantec products (at least virus protection ones) continue to be the best sellers among retailers, computer manufacturers, and large companies. I have been using computers since 1996, by all means a novice, and started out initially with McAfee upon everyone's recommendations. It always seemed to require too much user input, and not knowing much comupter anti virus lingo, I kept having all sorts of problems (Freezing, pop-ups for McAfee sale pitches, errors, excessive prompts for specific actions, and YES viruses, with very poor customer service). When I bought my second computer (IBM) in early 2000, it came with Norton pre-installed, and what a difference! I never had to do anything to the software. It just worked in the background, and never had a problem. I have been a Norton/Symantec fan since. Every year, I purchase and upgrade to the new software, simply because it is free after rebates, instead of paying to renew my subscription. I tried one year the NIS, and it did slow my computer, so I went back to the NAV. We have 3 desktop and 3 laptop computers, running W98, ME and XP. Never had a problem with viruses, and all computers have Norton running just smoothly in the background. Never had any problems with installation, and the current 3 users pack was even easier, because it automatically uninstalled the prior versions (Norton Professional 2003 and 2004). It updates itself automatically, and simply works (you just don't even know it is working). Not one single computer had a virus in over 5 years. I still have my IBM Aptiva, W98, 550MHZ Athlon, and an older 450MHZ Celeron Toshiba... 1 stars (Norton STINKS) - I had Norton Internet Security installed on my computer when bought new 10 months ago. Shortly after running the computer it gradually slowed down and would not load things, freeze up etc...I thought my computer was messed up and after some trial and error, I discovered that Norton was causing my problems. I installed Computer Associates EZ trust software (which I use on my Windows XP laptop that did not experience any problems) and deleted Norton and my problems ceased. I WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND THIS PROGRAM!!! I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who have no problem, but judging by the number of negative reviews here that they are the minority. 5 stars (Norton Internet Security 2005) - Great protection, installed easier than 2003 and 2002 versions. This product has saved our PC's many times. wsp 1 stars (who would be dumb enough to buy this crap?) - I would not use this product even if symantec pays me to use it. Norton use to be a good programmer but he's OUT DATED! ... 1 stars (mcafee bites) - ive never used this item, but the previous versions have sucked so much that this deserves 0 stars by default 1 stars (A Big Dissappointment) - I agree completely with the previous reviewer. In addition: 1) The virus scanner stalls out while scanning the Adobe Acrobat Reader files and you can't cancel the stalled out scan unless you kill the power to the PC. 2) It constantly issues annoying pop ups telling you: there is a PUP spyware program, you command it to remove the file, it comes back with 'it cannot remove the file', so you press cancel and every other minute it comes back with the same maddening pop up screen. Time to uninstall this clunker! 3) The online support stinks. There is none! You can buy it at $59.99 a minute...can you believe that? Go back to Norton Anti-virus, their support stinks too, but at least they have a knowledge base you can search. Expect to kick yourself if you purchase this software! 3 stars (Essentially the same as versions 8 and 9.) - There are two components to look at in McAfee VirusScan 2006, also known as version 10: The VirusScan component and the SecurityCenter component, also known by many as the blatant advertising component. I'll talk more about the SecurityCenter in a little bit. First let's review the actual virus scanning ability. I was surprised when I pulled out the Quick Start Guide (which is the only guide that comes in printed form) and it did not instruct me to uninstall the previous version of VirusScan first. The last two or three versions have all said to do so. Maybe McAfee has finally worked through the issues that installing a newer version over an older version has always created. But I'm not one to take any chances. I still recommend not only uninstalling any previous McAfee VirusScan product on your computer, but also uninstalling ALL McAfee products. The conflicts that have been caused in the past by not doing this have been too great and too severe to take that chance. (WARNING...
