PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 AntiVirus- Firewall- Spam- Spyware- Wi-Fi Patrol

1 stars (The jury is still out on this one) - I've been very happy with the security package, but installing took days. Even the updates are slow. My computer has been slower since installing this program. I might have been better off getting Norton. This program offered free telephone service for problems and Norton charges for each call. 5 stars (Finally, an affordable easy-to-use all-in-one solution) - After years using first McAfee then Norton, I finally found a solid alternative. Trend Micro's PC-cillin is comprehensive PC protection that's easy to use, affordable and doesn't prevent critical applications from running as they were meant to -- and costs less than it's counterparts. Gone are the many many pesky "alerts" from Norton's security product (that, at times, a user has no idea how to answer and, if answered wrong, some things don't even work anymore). I've happily made the switch and I'll never go back again. 5 stars (Switched from Norton, McAfee and ZoneLabs) - I decided to standardize on a single anti-virus/firewall solution for the three computers in our house. This fit the bill. First, the competitive rebate makes it very affordable. They also offer a home three-pack, which costs what two individual licenses would. Second, the impact on my systems seems very negligible - I can't notice a performance difference when it's turned on or off. Third, using their Home Network feature you can manage installations of the product on other computer on your network. So I can administer all three of my computers without running around the house. Fourth, the firewall allows you to configure the types of access that are permitted (unlike the free ZoneAlarm firewall, which makes you explicitly permission each program you want in/out access). On the downside, the firewall configuration could be easier to understand. Once you have it setup you never notice it's there, though. One additional bit of advice - you have to register the software after...

ZoneAlarm AntiVirus 2006 AntiVirus + Firewall

4 stars (NICE TOOL WITH FUTURE POTENTIALS) - In the world of software, efficiency matters. And despite its lesser known name, the "ZoneAlarm Antivirus 2006" package remains one of the most potent antiviral software available today. The news that this supposedly antivirus package comes with an equally effective internet security firewall will gladden the hearts of its users. Quite unlike other newly introduced packages, there are few but negligible bugs in this software. And with its relatively cheap retail price, such a minor issue could be easily accommodated. Twice I have installed this software, twice I was impressed by how smooth the entire procedure ran. Not even the most notable names in antiviral software have produced anything that has positively surprised me in this regard. I experienced zero hang-ups, zero blue screens: and no incompatibility hassles whatsoever, emerged. Apart from the fact that this software slows down system performance, as it runs in the background, there is nothing that I can honestly accuse it of. Even at that, all utility software (including antiviral and firewall ones) are famous for draining performance resources: and this suite did it to a lesser extent when compared to either 'Norton' or 'McAfee'. One more thing aspiring users of this product should note is that you have to deactivate your operating system's firewall, if you intend to use the firewall component of this suite. This last statement applies only to those who are running Windows XP (be it Home or Professional edition). Failure to do this will likely create more conflicts and other related problems. Overall, this is a fine piece of software to use. It silently executes its responsibilities with minimal strain on your hardware. It is an utility programme, which is likely to get better as future editions emerge. ...

Norton Internet Security 2005 - Single User AntiVirus- Firewall- Privacy- AntiSpam- Parental Contro

1 stars (Norton Internet Security is a complete waste of time & money.) - I purchased Norton and I have always used Norton as my anti-virus and firewall. I purchased Norton (again) last year and will not be renewing my subscription this year. This product is a joke. It completely slows down my laptop without reason (laptop is a high end IBM), it sends out a million messages for no apparent reasons and keeps asking to be un-installed and re-installed because one function or another is not working. Symantec really need to fix this software or lose all their customers. 2 stars (The anti-virus component might be OK, but the rest is buggy.) - Norton anti-virus at some point was the best anti-virus program, then it started going down hill and especially when they bundled this other useless (trash-ware) Internet security components. I am an above average computer user. This product is not worth the money. It is probably best to spend the money on just the anti-virus alone if that is still any good. When I installed this program it slowed down my 550 MHz system. If I try to send an email with an attachment it timed out (poor programing) because it scans the outgoing mail and it is also supposed to "train" its anti-spam engine, which is by the way useless, a simple OE filter catches more spam than it ever hopes to. I have DSL so it is not a bandwidth or timeout issue like Symantec would like you to believe, it is simply that Norton acts as the mail server for your email client but acts less than that due to poor or incomplete programing. Symantec's website is not much help on this big defect in the program. The solution that I discovered after days of trial and error is to disable the scanning of the outgoing email all together, this applies to the email scanning of outgoing messages and the filtering/training in the anti-spam options (so much for paying the extra for the Internet security features that have to be disabled in most cases unless you are just sending ...

Norton SystemWorks 2005 AntiVirus- Utilities- GoBack- Check IT

1 stars (Installation Nightmare - Try V-Com's Systemsuite Instead) - I'm still trying to install this software. There are about 7 technotes on the Symantec website dealing with installation problems for this software, as well as Personal Firewall. You better read them all before you even try, I say try, to install this stuff. Count on problems if you have a prior version that you are going to remove and upgrade. I've been working on installing this for about 4 hours, and one time I crashed the computer trying to implement one of Symantec's fixes -- spent 2 days trying to revive it, gave up and restored the hard drive with a backup image. Over the years, this software has become more bloated and problematic. Symantec has been complacent about product quality. Better bet is SystemSuite Pro 6 by V-com. I've been running version 5 for a year on another computer and it works very well, not a resource hog, only a few minor problems that V_com helped me fix. I installed Version 6 on my brother's computer with no problem at all. 1 stars (Big Headache!) - I've been using Norton's Systems Works and Firewall for years and have been very happy with them up till now. Already 2004's versions gave me problems and I could not install easily. I had constant automatic shut downs. Tech help was WORTHLESS! I finally had to reformat my computer and then everything worked fine. Now 2005's version is even worse. I could not install either Systems Works or the Firewall without my computer constantly shutting down during install. Finally, I had to do their fix of completely deleting all remenants of any Norton products. I did a reinstall of SW and my computer did not shut down, but not everything installed. I also managed to get the firewall installed as well. But since then, I've had constant problems again with my computer shutting down and then reboot problems when I try to run antivirus, or other Norton applications. I also keep getting error messages that some file is missing....

Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier - Single User AntiVirus- Utilities- GoBack- Ghost- CheckIT

5 stars (No problems with the install or the registration/activation) - Today,I upgraded from Systemworks 2003 Professional Edition to the Systemworks 2005 Premier on a PC with Windows XP Home Edition. It took approximately 30 minutes to load and register and everything went smoothly. Before starting, I read every review written here at Amazon so I'm well aware that my experience is not typical. I am offering the following suggestions in hopes that it may help someone who still has not been able to get it loaded or is about to try loading it for the first time. 1. First, to install this product on a XP machine, Norton says your processor should be a minimum of 300mhz (they neglect to tell you this on the outside of the box when they list the Minimum Systen Requirements) 2. Your Internet Explorer should be updated to version 6 3. If you have an earlier version of Systemworks (from 2003 and up) on your PC, don't uninstall it - if your version is earlier than 2003, you Must uninstall it before loading the new one. 4. Close all other Window programs - including those running in the System Tray. 5. Put in the Norton CD and click on "Install Norton SystemWorks" when the first panel comes up. 6. You'll be asked to accept the License Agreement" and then to enter your Product Key (it's long - 24 characters - and it appears on the back of your CD sleeve). 7. You're advised next to do a virus scan - so just click the "Start Scan" 8. It then asks you to select an Installation Type - the most trouble free choice here is the default - "Install Now". 9. Next, the software picks a folder where it wants to install the program...but, it gives you the ability to click "Browse" and change to another folder location. Again, the most trouble free choice here is the default. 10.It will then suggest that you Restart windows....then you are Done with the install (you still must register and activate). 11. At this point, after the Windows restart, I did get a couple of error me...

System Mechanic 5 Professional AntiVirus- Firewall- Utilities- File Recovery

4 stars (Hours of FUN!) - The only problem I am finding with system mechanic 5 is that it can take many hours to do a system maintenance. I have been using the SM software since about 97 or 98... I have always loved that it really does well with keeping your system running top notch. I have NEVER had a major problem with it, but the last system maintenance I did on my 250Gb SATA (only about 20 being used) hard drive, it took 24 hours to complete... And let me warn you now! If you stop SM in the middle of a task just because you couldn't wait.... GET READY for problems... You have to let it complete. I crashed about 8 times last night because I had to stop it to use my PC... Well, now that it has run completely over night.... I can type this without any trouble ;)... I do recommend this software; they always have problems in the beginning, but thanks to updates.... They have all been fixed in the past. 5 stars (SYSMECHANIC5 PROFESSIONAL IS EXCELLENT) - My experience with Symantec Norton Works was very good until I had problems with cleaning my drives of all the duplicates and clutter left by use of the Internet. I evaluated System Mechanic5 Professional and I liked very much. Moreover,Ron Slater - Sales Representative - contacted me with several tips that put me at ease to decide on purchasing it. I am happy with the features and the user-friendly format of the software. 4 stars (Maybe they fixed the problems???) - I just installed this program a few days ago after trying the trial version first. So far, I have had no real problems. I did defrag my entire system using the optimize option. I have 4 drives partitions on two drives totaling 160GB with about 80GB of data on them (SATA 120GB drive with three partitions and a single partitioned EIDE 40GB drive). I set it to start then went to bed. Six hours later, it was complete and there were no problems (I don't know how long the process actually took, but it was done 6 hours later). I don't know if this is due t...

Norton Systemworks 3 0 Mac AntiVirus- Utilities- Backup- Spring Cleaning

1 stars (Don't purchase this if you have 10.4) - the utilities portion of this software package will not work on 10.4 and Norton said it won't be updating it. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Go with one of the many other programs that can actually do the work. Norton has hit the skids! 1 stars (Shame on Norton) - Norton should have taken this product off the market. They had decided not to continue development for OS X 10.4 Tiger but didn't tell the coustomers leaving many like me to find out by tragic experiencce that their once great software is now dangerous to install and and difficult to uninstall. If you are running OS X 10.4 DO NOT INSTALL this program. 2 stars (Mac User beware) - Is Norton Antivirus reliable? I think that can be answered with a yes. Well, there are not so many Mac viruses around, so that statement is not validated in my own experience. What neither Amazon nor Symantec really tell you on first glance is that Antivirus 9.0 is NOT compatible with OSX 10.4. So I ended up buying Systemworks (for a steeper price then the Windows products no less) and it did not work. Two lengthy conversations with Symantec's service center in India later I knew that I had to dish otu another $40 for the upgrade to Antivirus 10.0 - you can get reimbuirsed for your purchase but it seems to take a lifetime. The Utilities package was unable to repair one of my disks wken I needed it... who knows why. Otherwise it seems to function OK under 10.4. Overall, my recommendation is if you have OSX 10.4 or plan to upgrade soon, look for another product. ...

Norton Internet Security Mac 3 0 AntiVirus- Firewall- Privacy- Controls- iClean

4 stars (Examine Before The Purchase) - Norton Utilities and AntiVirus form the foundation of any computer health program. However, when adding SuperClean to my G5's overall health regimen, my anger peaked. I payed twice for the privilege of using iClean. As excellently as this software functions, twice paid is once too much. Concerning AntiVirus itself, no software matches it for reliability. 3 stars (Internet Security for internet security) - I suppose that I am concerned about internet security. Aside from those hilarious commercials (by Citibank, I think) of fraud (usually credit card theft), there is a fair amount of potential problems regarding what others see of my life from my internet usage. In addition, I think that my life would be extremely disrupted if I had my powerbook hit with any damaging/destructive viruses. (Thats why I recommend backup, backup, backup. But I digress...) There are real problems "out there." But at the same time, I think balance and prudence are called for. So, I continue to use the internet. I surf, and I send email. I purchase over the internet. And I "do" wireless. But, I also set up passwords, and I use OS X's default firewall. And I think (without any real confirmation) that I am fairly safe from prying eyes... With this all in mind, I looked at Symantec's Internet Security 3.0 with interest. This is a collection of three (plus) programs which helps with (surprise!) your internet security. The three programs are AntiVirus, Personal Firewall, and Privacy Control. In addition (the plus, referenced above), Alladin iClean is included. I'll discuss AntiVirus more at the end of this review. I was impressed with the detail in the enclosed user manual, plus I like that the manual is fully available as a postscript file (.pdf) which means its more referable when I'm on the road. The install was smooth and easy. Personal Firewall seems to do a good job. At least, once started, I checked it against its self checks, and...
